My favorite line in a movie is from a john Wayne movie. John Wayne hands this city newspaper reporter a revolver and says, here take it you'll need it." The reporter looks at him with hesitation and asks" Is it.... Loaded?" John Wayne looks at his and says" WOULDNT DO YA MUCH GOOD IF IT WASNT" ALWAYS keep your gun on you and loaded. In Idaho here we are free to do that and I'll tell u how many mass shootings and how many armed robberies and how many violent crimes are committed here with guns. Zero. Because everyone here either knows that the next guy is packing just as much if not more heat than he is, or there is a respect among people here that hasnt been affected too much by the liberals and sjws and antifa. If we had antifa in Idaho their would be one bloody streak on the road because people here wouldnt put up with that shit.

That was probably just some new ones he purchased today. I'm sure he has a lot more than that. If you're going to prep for SHTF, even a fool knows you have to have the ammo AND magazines in bunches and I mean IN BUNCHES. If you think you have enough, you need 100xs more. Ahhh the life of a prepper. Eating Beanie Weanies for supper, but have enough money in guns and ammo to buy a damn house and eat steak in it everyday. HAHAHAHAHA! Stay safe!
@@LogicallyKnot I quit spending my money on ammo and guns when I come realize that once you're identified as a threat all the ammo and guns in the world won't stop a snipers bullet. I keep enough to hunt with but that's about it. I live very rural and once I realized how easy it would be for someone to camp out 3-500 yards and wait for me or my boys to walk outside, it's fruitless in my opinion to waist money on ammo. Ruby ridge really changed my perspective.
Not disagreeing at all but what i do is keep a fully loaded chest rig (4-8 mags depending on rig) for each of my rifles plus one to go in the gun. That breaks down to 2 AR rigs, one AK, and one M1A. And I only use Lancer or metal mags so the feed lips don’t spread over time. Inspect and replace springs ever 6 months if necessary.
I’m not against having loads of mags and ammo, but if you happen to need 20 mags I’d say you are already facing a shitstorm of a battle. Some wise man recently said, it’s better to relocate and fight another day then to face a platoon
I'm just a woman that's a daughter of an ex-marine so I can only repeat what my father told me. Sometimes you don't have a choice and you have to face the Platoon. My father and three other Marines are on the wrong side of their airstrip during the Tet offencive for 4 days. Their orders where not shoot back AND they locked up all weapons and ammunition. The soldiers were only allowed 1 handgun each and to stay "close". My father and the other three Marines were sure that they were going to be heading to the brig but because they held the Airfield they overlooked "the incident". That was one screw up war but I suppose all of them are.
Two things, the quote (paraphrased), was from PJF himself. Also rules in an actual war with military units are different. The actual application of the quote would apply better to an underground resistance force like they had in France in ww2.

I disagree. Fact is magazine springs and feed lips will wear out slowly under tension, this has already been proven. Not in a year or two, but over the span of years. As a prepper you don't know if you'll have steady access to new magazine bodies and springs when the SHTF. There's zero reason to leave all your magazines loaded because there is no realistic scenario where you will be perfectly fine one day and then in a split second you'll be in a gun fight requiring more than 1000 rounds. Having two to three magazines loaded should be enough for you to realistically hold yourself off in a rapid response scenario, to get yourself to safety and load the rest later. Seriously, ask yourself in what realistic scenario will you wake up and dump thousands of rounds in a firefight? Not even in Afghanistan did this happen LOL.
@@TennGrizz It's entirely possible (though I'd like proof along with your claim), but why add unnecessary wear and tear to a mag you might have to hand down to your grandchildren to fight with?
@@TennGrizz Lol, I was an 0311 so I can't be BS'd with appeal to authority fallacies. The US Military will always be able to source new mags and throw them out and replace them as they see fit, even start their own private production of them if they wanted to. You as a civilian cannot do that. If you're a prepper who believes S will one day HTF, you and your future generations are stuck with the equipment you've got and the current condition of said equipment. Besides the US Military doesn't care about individual soldiers. You'd have to be stuck in 1950s propaganda if you believe that. During Vietnam they gave us faulty equipment, ammo, and mags, and every war since all the way up to the Great War On Oil we've been having feeding/ejecting issues with our stoner design rifle. But hey dude, go ahead and keep all your mags loaded because you think you're gonna be John Wick/Rambo and kill a thousand mutant ninja zombie assassins one bump in the night. It is a "free" country after all. Your choice.
Oooo I was right 'All of em' was gonna be my first guess! 237 was gonna be my second guess. Love the pmags, they load up so easily and I've never once had a problem with them. Stay armed, stay safe, and God bless.

A good friend of mine has kept his mags loaded for over 20 years. The springs have weakened some but are still fully functional. So I agree, all of them.
How would you know? He shot all his mags to empty? That's the only way to know. And testing has already proven that keeping them loaded thus in fact make them less reliable.
@@paddypibblet846yes he does. Every spring he hits the range and cycles all his mags. So far hasn't seen much of a reduction in performance. I keep just a few of mine 1/2 loaded the rest empty. But if you're in a bad area. Load them up.
@@paddypibblet846 when you finally gain enough courage to leave your mommy's basement and learn a little bit about life you will understand that I invested plenty in my son growing up which is why he was able to become a Marine in the first place. Now go back to your dark little corner and sit in timeout jr!
Load all mags. You have your "load out" and then you have your extra mags. Primary load outs in your rig, and the others in a very easy to carry container or other means. just makes things simple.
Pastor Joe, I do agree with being prepared with multiple loaded mags. But my thoughts and training indicate that fully loaded mags that are stored over long periods with wide temperature fluctuations can have a high failure rate due to Spring Fatigue. Thoughts ?
If they all stay loaded though, doesn't that wear out the springs? I've heard you should load half, and rotate them once every 3 months. Or does the loading and unloading hurt the springs?

Have you had experience with Magpul mags failing after being left loaded for extended periods of time? I know they make caps to help by relieving spring tension but I doubt most of us use them. The Military Arms Channel (Tim) has said he’s had P-mags spread, or even crack after being left loaded. He uses Lancer mags with steel feed lips, and I ordered a couple myself to try out and was wondering if you had any input?

Incorrect. And there's plenty of independent RU-vidrs who have luckily done the test and shown us that magazine springs do in fact wear out under stress, and not just the magazine spring, but the feed lips which are arguably even more important than the magazine spring.
@@colby7625 No, springs deform as well from simple compression. It's called plastic deformation, specifically creep. It happens very slowly, but it still happens nonetheless. I guess it depends on a couple of things. Either you're a prepper who doesn't see magazines as easily replaceable or disposable items... Or you're preparing for some end of the world event where you, or your children can go to the store any day and buy magazines (the same mags politicians want to get rid of so badly). Real preppers prepare for their children, not just for themselves. Otherwise what's the point? Keep a couple of mags unloaded just for them in the off chance it turns into a multigenerational SHTF.
@@paddypibblet846 You can keep mags loaded for years and be good. Now if you shoot every day with the same mags you might check the springs from time to time.
@@colby7625 We both agree that we'll be good for years. My point is that I am speaking long term. As an actual prepper. As a person who doesn't see mags as disposable because God knows where we will be 20 to 30 years from now. I want my children to have useful magazines.

I have a rookie question to ask. What kind of ammo should be used in a standard M1 as well as a standard 30.06 hunting rifle? I have had several different answers. I suppose this is probably the best site I could get an honest educated answer. I'm asking for a friend of mine that lives up north.
VIKING PREP - YOU SHOULD BUY A "MAG-LULA" LOADER for your AR and pistols ! But, I digress - how many mags should you keep loaded ? Or better yet, how many mags should you have ? ANSWER: enough that you can carry ALL of them, loaded of course ! Any you CAN'T carry, will do you NO GOOD.
Good idea, as long as nobody else knows your "pre-positions", or you forget where they are ! Also, kindaw swampy down here in Florida - bad for ammo & metal clips ! @@VikingPreparedness
