How many mags should you have in your minuteman loadout? here is one Marines thoughts. It is my goal to encourage YOU to be as self reliant, prepared, and capable as humanly possible, in all aspects of life. This topic, if in just some small way, is discussed with that goal in mind.

Good point about conditioning. So many focus on “gunning” but can’t run a mile without dying.

Lose weight. Pick up a 10 or 20 pound sack. That's what you're continuously burdened with if you're too fat. And that much less equipment you can carry.

@@richardkluesek4301 Ive been doing 40lb rucks lately, only 1-2km at a time, mostly uphill threw the thick forest. I'm in better shape than most, but those hikes are a wakeup call. Cardio is everything! It doesn't matter how many magazines you carry, if you're getting winded at the 300 yard line you're going to die. Gucci gear is no replacement for physical fitness. Its almost always better to "fight light" if you have the option.

Always thought of the Minutemen as being a QRF, or Fast Response to any potential threat. To effectively respond “ in a minute” a colonist would have to throw down the plow, grab the essential minimums and go. So your travel quick and light is spot on.

Great Video! Did a year in Iraq as a Contractor. Whenever we went out on an assignment / escort our minimum load was 8 xtra mags for the M4 and 3 xtra for the pistol. This allowed for enough ammo to hold you over until "back up" (the Military) could arrive. We also carried xtra mags in our vehicles as well as water and trauma kits.

So when I was doing overseas work I would carry in between 4 and 6 on my body chess rig 30 round magazines sometimes we were issued 40 round magazines. And then I would always have a ditch bag close by with another six magazines for my m4/Colt commando I would also carry Three magazines for my sidearm and also three magazines in my ditch bag for my sidearm we were doing a lot of vehicle operations. There is nothing worse than running out of ammunition now when you on bingo ammo it sucks it's a very sucky feeling. Also for those people out there that think that everyone always leaves their gun in automatic I only switched to my weapon to full auto five times from operating from 2008 to 2016. I carry relatively heavy at 12 mags on my rig. I always train carrying that rig so as to be conditioned to it. I have it set up to carry ammo, hydration and an IFAK only, everything else is in my pack, including two or three bandoliers of extra ammo on stripper clips. My main motivation in carrying so heavy is to be able to have a bit of extra for a team member that may not be fully equipped. Couldn’t agree more, plus, as anything times have changed the “minute men” back in the day were fighting a different enemy….if an enemy invades our county today, we should all know how prepared and equipped they will be if they are able to start moving inward on land…plates, ammo, night vision…I don’t want to be fighting that without Armor on myself…the other way I look at it, in Afghanistan I was humping around with plates, a chest rig with 12 mags and sometimes a 35LB+ backpack and I wasn’t the first to do that and I know I won’t be the last…if I did it then over there, you bet your ass I’ll do it over here

I've been watching and listening to different people on this subject and a lot of special operators carry 3 on their vest and 1 in the weapon on raids. One of the reasons for this was so they could get lower on the ground. When I was deployed I actually carried about 6-8 on my vest. I've done a couple of Tactical Game Skirmishs and find my self much more agile with just 4-5 mags total and a vest stripped of as much excess weight as possible. It's how I'm rolling in the future.

If you deploying away from from your area, you might have to have 15 mags. If no ones gunna restock you, then take everything you can. If your close to home in your area of operation, then you could probably keep 3 on ya, one in the rifle.

I think 8-10 mags is probably perfect for a minute man. Especially when the people around you may have the weaponry but lack some of the same equipment or preparedness, carrying more gives you the ability to dish a couple out to friendlys so that you have more of a force. Also adrenaline mixed with the lack of training means a mag may go very fast in a firefight, better safe than sorry.

I really appreciate your no nonsense informative videos. I also appreciate you for not being a gear snob. My type of guy. I do my best to stay in shape, but with my severe scoliosis, I'm just not going to be as agile as some. That being said I'd probably fit the role of regular militia better than that of minute man. I do agree with your minute man loadout, but given where I feel I'd fit in best, I usually carry 6 plus 1 magazines. That 210 rounds should provide me with enough ammo to lay down some suppressive fire for a short while if needed. With my bad back, I find it easier to carry my loadout on a cummerbund. I can carry 6 Stanag mags, 2 Glock mags, a knife, 2 lights, an IFAK with a spare tourniquet along with my sidearm. If needed, I might add a water bladder pouch which gives me a few more compartments where I can carry a few more mags, nutrition, and other odds and ends. I'm also a type 1 diabetic so I need to have nutrition with me at all times. For missions that might require more gear, I also have a chest rig set up to carry as many as 9 mags for a total of 10 plus everything I carry on my cummerbund setup, but with my back the way it is, I hope I don't ever have to run far with that loadout. My cardio fitness is great, but there's nothing I can do about my back. That's why I prefer carry everything on my waist.

I think it’s absurd to go willingly into an armed conflict with anything more than a Spiritus Micro Rig with 3 mags. Because if you’re gonna die, you should look like a tier 1 flannel operator while your perforated carcass is laying in a ditch with crappy drawers. Make sure you have your kestrel, laser rangefinder and a GPS in the $79 utility pouch. Because if you’re taking incoming fire, you’re definitely going to want to take time to range the target and dial in your Nightforce optic and take one precise shot. Everyone knows that watching your impact and implementing a holdover to rapidly engage a target is for noobs, and you’re only an operator if you have your dope chart in your multicam wristband. Don’t be a poser. All those pouches filled with extra mags are for larpers. Your belt should have nothing on it except your sexy plastic holster for a glock with a red dot and flashlight plus 2 extra pistol mags you’ll never use in a fight. Never put any other gear on your hips just because that’s where you’re anatomically best equipped to carry a load. It doesn’t look cool. Everything, including your lunch, wet weather gear, prescription meds, land nav, and night vision, should all be on your chest rig. If it interferes with your reload in a fight and you die from it, it’s only because you didn’t spend enough money going to training courses where some washed up security guard yells at you about your split times and not flicking your safety back on fast enough while you’re rehearsing how to navigate the numerous pouches on your loadout. Get good.

We always ran 8, last ten were tracers so we knew when it was time to think about topping up, one in the gun, all tracers so everyone knew what we were engaging when we reacted to contact and 60 on strips. Speed loading a mag you tac reloaded with 20 rounds from the clips to say 28 or 29 is almost as good as 30. It saves you a few ounces and its more flexible at the cost of convenience.

Been there, done that. In my time, (as I recall) we carried a minimum 220 rds of 5.56 in 20 rd mags. Usually we carried more as loaded mags in three bandoliers of seven mags each (plus one mag in thigh pocket) Most of our guys did movements on foot, not vehicles. For a MM, I would suggest you would need at least enough ammo to break contact plus mission requirements (I am assuming even a basics of operational planning). I look at a minimum of seven mags now (odd how that number relates to my old Marine Corps number). Any force that use Unarmored Personnel Carriers (foot bound) does not have immediate resupply available. You must carry what you need for the mission. That must be the first rule of operations. Once someone learns the need to be armed to live, funny how it just fits into their contuing lifestyle. Good topic. Semper Fi

omg I don't want a "Leeroy Jenkins" type in my crew but I catch your drift 10 years ago the usual youtube gunnies advocated carrying as many as you could, like 12 or more. the logic was that we will not be resupplied. some time after that thanks to GT and Trex the lightweight movement began. these days I have my trusty jpc with 4 mags with level 4 plates. I've also got my 10 year old 5.11 tac tec chest rig that holds six mags. the latter can serve as a bandolier since it holds extra mags. I can go either way depending on the situation. your video makes sense, thanks for the knowledge transfer regarding mobility and just being real when SHTF. cheers man. subbed!

The right answer is.. as many as you can manage.. slow fire combat = 1mag per minute.. So the question isn’t how many mags do you need.. the question is how long do you want to be in the fight? If you walk into an ambush and need to break contact.. you’re looking at 45 rounds per minute best case… by the time you return fire, find egress and communicate and start to move.. you’re bounding out with no ammo with a 4 mag load…. The 7mag std is actually deprived partially from this very concept.. return direct fire move and communicate while doing so and have enough to have proper egress with effective fire. Meaning at the end of that single engagement you’ve spent 7 full mags.. Many tall about you don’t want to fight.. if you have to move flank and pick off couple at a time blah blah.. all great concepts considering you’d like be at any point facing an superior force so no matter how good you think you are you can’t take them head up.. Ammo is about the lightest thing you’ll be carrying.. making an argument for 4 mags 4 lbs or 8 mags 8 lbs Is minimal.. for fn sake an empty plate carrier with lv4’s is 16lbs! But everyone larping around in them.. Let’s also keep in mind.. that 7 mag basic load out used to be 8 and before that it was even 12 at one point.. why did it go down? Usage of vehicle transport and supply line.. non of which would be available is any situation where localized minutemen or militia would be needed.. Qwot rarely more then few hundred yards from a vehicle loaded with water and ammo cans or preloaded mags.. Want a better look at combat look at Ukrainian war footage.. those troops on both sides have limited at best resupply but still better then anything we would have in shtf… they are carrying over 100lbs of shit.. they have as man mags as they can fit.. as much water as they can carry. Everything else is optional.. seen guys wearing vest over vest both loaded.. 2-2.5g water tanks as butt packs.. that’s is what war looks like.. not a superior force riding around in armor getting out for small patrol and getting back into armor.. weeks and weeks in the field wo supply..

i like your view point of the mnuteman being the spec ops of the militia. as for mags and gear in general, theres an old "proverb" that states ..."the mission dictates the gear"... and i personally believe that should be the standard. of course you should have a base number of mags, and i think 4 is likely that number. however if your assaulting a location you very well might require much more. if your simply doing a scouting mission, sneaking around to gain intel, you very well might require much less, or none at all. (if your doing some covert gray man sillyness. depending on the mission of course. great video.

Commenting as a historian buff, there are still photos and combat film footage of World War 1 and 2 combatants, mostly GIs, Tommies, and Jerries (they had the better Signal Corps to make the record). Besides wearing the individual ammo belt, many slung bandoloeers. others carried those green boxes for machine gun belts undoubtedly with magazines and cartridges on stripper clips, even loose, for small arms. And there was one picture of a squad deploying a hand wheeled cart loaded up with crates following those in front in action with submachineguns. James Colburn starred in a movie, "Cross of Iron" about a German squad on the Eastern Front, and his group had a couple of guys toting a large crate with extra ammo. Maybe this occurred in real life. During Viet Nam, American warfighters were known to carry as many magazines as they could in pockets and additional pouches and improvised kit like canteen covers. Those stubby 20 round capacity magazines are still useful, compact to stuff where you are able and assume a lower prone position. And in action you don't want to get killed or injured trying to retrieve an empty one because its the last one that can be recharged.

Well the alice kit came with 6 mags basic, 2 pouches of 3 standard (more can be added) and in Nam guys would throw around 6 into canteen pouches or used m60 pouches. Molle may be the new belle at the ball, but Alice is still great for raw amount of ammo/gear with a low mobility hinerace. You can pop the belt and get all the way to the dirt while the suspenders keep it with you.

@@presidentmerkinmuffley6769 Right on thanks for the tip I never used the equipment but have it and we may need to be deploying it soon. Guys I know who were under fire have said what you stated. I shied away from the vests because like you imply they make you fat and fatter. WW2 Italian commando gear had vests for submachinegun magazines horitantally mounted front and back, the wearer would rotate as the magazines were used up.

Yep Vietnam vets told me only two things you need to carry on patrol and that was water and bullets, if you were a rifleman you carried as many magazines as you could physically carry and then you took two belts for the M60 and wrapped those around your neck as the belt fed machine gun was priority to keep running, one guy told me he jumped off the boat and sank to his knees because of all the ammo he was carrying but it was needed as they immediately got engaged in huge firefight

My setup has generally been 4 on my chest rig, 4 on my belt, and 2-4 pistol mags on the belt. But... Tiers/layers are a thing. You have your tier 1: Your EDC. This may or may not include a knife/multitool, light, lighter compass, sidearm. Often includes a basic survival kit and a snack. Because we live out of our pockets. You have tier 2: Your battle belt. That would be your sidearm, knife, canteen, spare mags, IFAK, etc... You have your tier 3: Your chest rig/plate carrier. This would predominantly be your mainstay fighting load for your rifle and other mission specific gear like smokes/grenades, etc... And your IFAK if it's not on your belt. Tier 3: Assault/3-day pack. Mostly mission critical tools that don't fit on your rig and some limited sustainment gear. Extra mags, maybe some essential foul weather gear like a poncho, etc... This needs to be be kept streamlined and light, as it is something that you would still likely keep on you in a fight. Tier 4: Rucksack. This would be your sustainment load. Primarily extra ammo, food, mess kit, extra survival gear, snivel gear, shelter, etc.... This is not something that you would take into a fight with you and, thus, would not really be "minuteman" kit. But it would be essential for sustained operations abroad without resupply. This would be cached somewhere before any planned fighting, so as to be able to move more quickly. Some schools of thought start with Tier 0 instead of Tier 1. Call it whatever you want. The point is to be able to organize your gear into layers to make it more manageable and scalable to what you are doing. With this in mind, you can better organize your kit and better decide how many mags you need based on what you're doing: Just a "ready to rock" minuteman kit in your vehicle or closet? Maybe you run a light chest rig with 3-4 mags and forego the belt and bags, with the assumption being that you already have an EDC CCW on you to fight your way to your rifle. Moving light and fast to observe and avoid detection? Maybe only 3 on your rig and 3 more in an assault pack. Doing a long range patrol? Maybe you go with 6 on you and another 12 split between the two bags. Establishing a framework and planning your loadout based on the mission will allow you to streamline your kit to just the necessities and improve your combat effectiveness. Having several such loadouts for different mission types ready to go might not be a bad idea if you have money and space to spare.

I believe for a shtf, you would most likely be more of a recon roll trying to avoid contact or a firefight and if it did occur you would suppress enough and get the hell out of dodge out of a firefight, you would not be getting resupply drops and also you don't have other team members most likely scenario for at the home front with that said to each is there own I like light and mobility I run 4 ar mags and 4 pistol mags all together based on this particular scenario.

If your tactical fitness is non existent, none of this matters outside of basement tacticool cosplay fashion shows. If you can't maintain accuracy out to intermediate distances (300m) and situational awareness while under a load and under stress, you're are fooling yourself. Check out The Tactical Games as an example of where the bullet meets the bone for tactical fitness.

Another issue is what caliber weapon are you carrying. 5.56 you can carry more than 7.62x39. If 7.62 NATO, quite a bit less. Also consider your mission. Are you Overwatch Marksman vs regular militia. If Overwatch, I'd carry something with reach and accuracy, like 7.62 NATO and less magazines, as I won't be blasting anything that moves.

It is best to figure out what works best for you, or rather, what your intended mission is. A minute man very much comes across as a QRF with a base where you can resupply. If that is the case, carrying as much ammo as you can while not sacrificing mobility is your only real answer
@viper26ja79
@viper26ja79 2 года назад
Technically a minute man is described as an ordinary citizen ready to drop what they're doing and fight or respond in a minutes notice. Anyone with a weapon or certain skills can be considered a Minuteman. World war 3 does not need to start for the need of a minute man. You could witness a car accident in front of you and have the skills, training and gear to be that Minuteman.

I think as a minute man your responding to an event without supply lines. A military force is only effective if it's supply line is working. Plus the opposing force is most likely going to have reinforcements. My opinion would be 9 mags min. Spread the weight from hips to chest and have a pack with at least 6 more loaded and easily accessible. Those reaction forces are going to be out maned and under supplied. Be ready for anything and everything.

Looking for decent ak47 mag pouches or chest rig any suggestions? My AR15 plate carrier is good to go, it’s the new rifle “ak” needs a load out kit! As far as mags well as many as you can afford with the ammo to go along with them of course. Keep in mind the military will not come and give you a resupply when ammo is running low! You will have what you have and be your own resupply!

Remember people the United States is not a war zone one shot one kill. As what I train and that's what I train my associates how it should actually be in real life is two round center Mass one round cranium aim for the xiphoid process on the chest if you aim for the xiphoid process you have 50% chance of hitting the heart and 50% chance of hitting the longs either way your enemy is taken out of the fight if your enemy has body armor aim for the groin or aim for the head. Always remember if you ain't small you miss big if you aim big you miss small that's the reason why I teach people to aim for the xiphoid process. Also there's some rounds that you can order from Israel that are tungsten black tip 556 they have very good ballistics for being a 65 grain round they defeat a lot of steel plates
