When replacing the charging link assembly, isolate the cold water and heating return on the bulk head, no need to drain down 👍

No? If you isolate the heating return and cold water supply on the boiler you have isolated the charging link assembly. You don’t need to open the hot water tap either 👍

@@mattwhite6291 I get what you mean now you’ve sent the pictures! I’ve never looked at it enough to realise the ball inside is shuts off to both! Thank you! Really useful info, hopefully get one soon again so I can make a vid on it!

@@ArifPolicewala thank you! iPhone 15 Pro, feels like a massive upgrade as my last one was over 6 years old and kept it going until the screen was completely knackered! A shame the video skills don’t match the camera quality 😂😂

Good job buddy boy. I never can understand why WB introduced that filling key system? It’s hard even for us engineers to see the padlock symbols on it, let alone my demographic pensioners! Lovely work though my friend, and I like your calm style.

@@mrpirrezz7474 thank you, appreciate that! I agree, terrible system, even down to it letting some water out when you pull the key out - makes customers panic! I’m surprised the design stayed for so long! Have you had much experience with these new auto filling systems? I’d worry that any issues wouldn’t be highlighted as it would be constantly topping up!

Im with you on that one! I wouldn’t trust any system that automatically tops up the boiler, no matter how sophisticated the manufacturer claims it is. There’s something to be said with the old filling loop?? That said, they go wrong and leak, however they’re cheaper, widely available and much easier ( normally!) to replace.

@@mrpirrezz7474 yep! 100% bring back a braided hose 😂 to be fair, I don’t mind the system ATAG, Ideal etc use - Vaillant little grey handles start to wear easily - maybe that’s why the replacements are metal!

Hi mate. Excellent work. Just curious how you went about pricing that job? Not long went out on my own and lost a few breakdowns when I gave my price. Can't seem to get the pricing right. Do you price based on time you think it will take or do you have a min price regardless etc? Was advised to not undervalue myself which also helps to weed out the customers looking to get things fixed for peanuts but on the other hand don't want to lose customers for the sake of £20/30. Edit..Also do you think its a good idea to have a call out charge?

@@LT-nd3ov I could talk for hours on this, are you on Insta as it would be easier to discuss! Would be happy to go through it all and what I’ve found works best. Often, experience plays a factor, I’ve spent 18 years on the repairs side so usually know how long something will take and what issues may arises but I genuinely give a fixed cost to the client with an hourly rate in my head - figure out how long the part will take in a worst case scenario and price from that + parts. I don’t charge a call-out fee as such but I charge for all time spent, so my initial contact with the customer will be charged at £xx covering up to one hour of diagnosis or repair where possible - any time beyond that would be either a fixed cost quote or on a per hour basis. Often, potential clients are deterred by the words “call out charge” as lots of customers marketed a free call out but that was almost an administration charge as the time spent on site was still invoiced! Definitely don’t undervalue yourself, and for me personally, I need to be happy with what I walk away with given worst case scenario/time spent - within reason! Never drop your price, never haggle, the price is the price - if they can’t afford you, onto the next one - I tell my clients I’m not the cheapest but also not the most expensive and put the ball back in their court.

@@LT-nd3ov set a minimum charge that you think is reasonable, mine is £95 which i think is cheap considering 41 years experience. Then you can increase based on the time it takes you. You will always get cheap customers who will want things done for silly money. Just remember you are a qualified engineer so they must pay for your knowledge not just time👍🏼👍🏼

Oh really, second one I’ve ever come across bag didn’t work 😂 to be honest, I just advised them and will quote to replace on the service with the burner seal and electrodes. Didn’t want to chance messing around and causing myself more aggro as it was quite a booked day! What do you usually do? The worst is when they don’t seal up, had that a couple of times!

Many of the worcester plastic parts have similar flaws. I always thought it was because our water is so hard that they cant hold up to it🤷🏼‍♂️

@@russellbaldry5095 I’ve been told by a couple of different Worcester trainers in the past that if you fit a shock arrestor, it massively reduces the chances of the plastic parts pinholing etc!

@@RJHeating yes true i think is standard across all manufacturers now. I fit them on all my combi installs👍🏼 I actually looked at a prv on one (30i) to change yesterday (at the back with pipes in the way) told the guy £130 supply and fit…….tx back i was the dearest that quoted😳 he got 3 quotes for a prv🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
