A little insight into the daily life here at RJ Heating! There’s a mixture of boiler repairs, boiler installations, hints, tips, tool reviews and even some advice on what I’ve found helpful pushing my business forward!
The majority of our work is reactive so we should get some good, varied content week on week!
Easy fix, top tip from me, if your changing return manifold, just tell customer to pay the other 30 quid for flow manifold and youll be done alot quicker.
Not a bad idea! To be honest, I enjoy doing them, this one just happened to be a pain 😂 probably because everything goes wrong when filming 😂😂 tune in for part 2 this evening!
@@RJHeating ive replaced thousands of them and ive the scratches to prove it, what do you charge to replace that, i charge 310 all in with PRV and turbine adaptor
@@stevenmawhinney5007 bang on, exactly the same, £307 on this one - although don’t think I charged for the PRV as it just needed a clean off! (South London based)
Is it worth it? Tge customers are always right. In this case, I disagree. Fitted two main heat exchangers to two duotec. £565 + VAT per heat exchanger.thats excluding 2hr labour for each one.
Yeah they really do. Average about 40 mins for one start to finish now. Just always goes wrong when filming as you know 😂 never usually have to even take the flow out 🤦🏽♂️🙆🏽♂️ thanks for watching!
You need patience to tackle these jobs, being in this business for 40 years I just don't have the patience with Worcshiters o rings. How many have completed and found a leak ? More than a bit of a pain. No wonder so many say "new boiler"
The Hive having a green signal, you have not positively and safely isolated the elecs at all, even if it's on a separate feed. How did you test? Always, always, cover the PCB when taking stuff out on these. Good idea to change AAV with pump out. However, that Hive could switch on at anytime, it's wired into the PCB. Be safe. The RH manifold, easier just to take the whole block out with plate. Also, you nearly dented the bath getting the return nut out, could've scratched by the parts laid on it. Why do that? Customer will have you back rapid time if there was a mark or damage. At your cost. Not putting your work down, not an easy job on the Greenstars.
Honestly, I’m convinced these things go a lot worse when filming! I have videos on my insta of it taking half the time 😂 still, makes for better content! Thank you for watching as always!
No, they didn’t have the budget. Also went for a reconditioned heat ex so complete job cost less than a heat ex on its own. Usually, you’d be right though!
Thank you! Appreciate it! This one is Ferrex - actually from Aldi, so I’m not sure it’s still available. Supreme Handtools sells great ones from Japan. The brand vessel! supremehandtools.co.uk/ or @supreme_handtools on instagram!
That would have baffled me😂.. top job Ritchie you did well there. System was well filthy. I would probs put that down to fresh water from the passing filling loop oxidising the system. Thanks for that buddy as usual wicked content❤..
Thank you, it did really puzzle me and if I’m honest, I did think they were just being silly and hadn’t noticed the condense in 10+ years 😂 still surprised by it how it was such a perfect balance! Thank you for watching and always supporting!
You struck gold with that one....got to be incredibly rare to find that perfect balance between filling loop letting by and hex leaking it away 😂 great find though!!! Would have had many stumped!!!
Thank you! Should have done the lottery! I joked with the client before attending that the only way it could happen is if the filling loop was letting by too 😂
Had me scratching my head so I had to attend in the end and good thing I did 😂 thank you for watching! Stayed perfectly level for a good week or two before I even went! Just assumed they were being silly talking about normal operation!
Really had me stumped before I attended as I was telling them it couldn’t be running out the condense if there was no loss of pressure! Must have literally struck a perfect balance between filling loop letting by and heat exchanger leaking! 🦄 job! Thanks for watching!
It was satisfying to do 😂 on the old Vaillant’s it used to be so tempting to squeeze them and then you’d come to your senses and remember you are about to choke up the pump, canoe filter and plate 😂
Did you price it? His diagnosis was correct, just went deeper than he initially expected, which he diagnosed without draining the boiler or accessing any parts. It’s an agents job, who didn’t want a filter fitted, we can only offer best advice 🤷🏽♂️
@RJHeating you know I didn't price it 🤣🤣🤣 plate and pump isn't cheap though. As you say all you can do is advise them, if they don't want a filter they can pay you again this time next year
To be fair I think the other engineer diagnosed well....unfortunately with the issue of blockages like that it can affect multiple parts which is only apparent when you start stripping it down 🤔
@@she_plumbs 100% his diagnosis was spot on! The system has clearly been left for a while with no care and no protection etc, not to mention those rubber hoses asking to get blocked 😂
@@danielbailey1452 I’ll be honest, I was probably defensive in haste, you get so many people on here trying to dig you out! I apologise if I came across rude and took your comment wrong! This is what clients (not just agents) often don’t get, a little extra money now, can save you a lot of money in the near future! As you say, this’ll be choked up again within 12 months more than likely! Appreciate you watching!
To be honest, I left the top connection on both connected (return is behind the heat ex so would presume it’d need to come out for access) the bottom connections are push fit with clips so easy to pull out then squeeze the tubes and stick a screwdriver out/push the muck down. Appreciate the watch! The top connection looked like it wouldn’t seal again if it came off 😂
I’ve had same issue as you with those Viessmans. Those rubber hoses don’t have an oxygen barrier. I’ve been to some that have had the hoses replaced (nightmare replacing the return at the back of the heat ex) and then the system powerflushed. 2 years later the hoses have blocked again - that’s on a system that is spotless. I don’t know how Viessman get away with fitting those hoses inside their boilers. Vaillant and Glowworm used to do it but knocked it on the head, who knows why Viessman haven’t 🤷♂️
Very odd, that’s what I didn’t understand! Have changed hundreds for Vaillant and Glowworm before so it’s a well known issue as you say! Ooh I bet the return is a nightmare! I couldn’t even access it properly for this, had to just squeeze up as much as I could, not great when the heat exchangers just cut out on temp 🥵
@@RJHeating to replace the return you have to take the heat ex out - and it gets better. To get the heat ex out you have to life the flue out of the top of the heat ex (on the couple I’ve done I had to). Good luck lifting the flue out if it’s been cemented in. Luckily for me both times I did it the flue route wasn’t sealed in.
Top vid Ritchie❤. Atleast you got the thing working properly but you would think the manufacturers would have improved the design as this is a common problem.
Thank you for watching, appreciate it as always! 10-12 years ago we were going around changing the @vaillant ones for this same problem! And then they updated to copper F&R pipes! Still, was weirdly satisfying squeezing the muck out 😂😂
It does indeed, unfortunately, the customer currently only has the budget to get them back up and running but it’s on the cards! Appreciate you watching!
They’re really handy! @eightbitghost906 or @eightbitghost on instagram. I’ve tagged his eBay shop in the video description - he does both sizes too! Great products he has!
Hope it was useful! They’ll be more of these type of things coming - just need the right jobs to come through for it! But the plan is to have a full wiring series including system rewire! (Just a heads up for anyone who hasn’t subscribed yet!) appreciate you taking the time to watch! Thank you!
Hi RJ Heating, cool vids, but I would replace the electrode gasket and door seal always! Also, a flue integrity test (air intake) is pointless with the case off! Just a couple of tips. I’m not digging you out mate, just a few pointers 👌👍
You’re right on the flue integrity, and the test was done with the case back on after - cards on the table, I’m new to filming and sometimes it throws you off or you don’t manage to film everything or gets cut in the edit etc - but lesson for me to at least update the description. Personally, I only replace the gaskets on the electrode and burner door if required - again, probably should have showed the testing. Thank you for watching anyway, hope to see you back in the future!
Mate that drain cleaner is lethal in contact with other metals,it will eat away at it if not thoroughly washed away, hope no animals walk past that mess left on the tarmac, should of cleaned it out in the customers yard gully.
The road was washed down after with the spray gun in the video. But thank you for concern. In 18 years, I’ve never had it eat away at the metal in a plate as it’s washed out thoroughly before reinstallation.
Great job....i like an engineer who gives their customer sound advice about all options available to them and the pros and cons of each....you're right when you say not every customers budget can stretch to whats best for their system at the drop of a hat...you've now given them a chance to save and consider their future options 👌
Exactly that! You can only offer best advice - unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world where everyone has mountains of money to power flush annually 🤷🏽♂️
Hi, good questions, there are so many variations as to how people charge! The way we operate is a charge for diagnosis or repair where possible that usually covers up to one hour, if parts are required, the client would then be given a fixed cost quote to return and repair but the initial diagnosis/repair charge is still taken. Thanks for watching!
@@56ty78uiyes, I work for myself. Correct advice was given to the client and repairs made to suit their current budget to get them back up and running. Not everyone can afford to fully flush the system etc on the back of their boiler breaking down and so all we can do is offer a range of solutions for them to pick which best suits them. You can’t force people to get a flush done.
@@56ty78uiGet in the real world you don't go round fixing everyone's system issues without getting paid for it. If it blocks up again in 12 months time it's not a recall he's done all he can do.
Thank you Arif, appreciate your support as always! Probably one of the worst I’ve seen although there’s a video coming in the next couple of weeks with a plate even worse 🤣 spoiler alert! Thanks again!
