Aaargghh!! 6 years ago when I was 17 I did my personal record of 23 pull-ups in a row as part of the end test of my physical fitness merit badge. Then I went to college and got fat. Now I’m 23 and am finally able to do 6 pull-ups again 😂.

Most people shouldn't focus on quantity, but rather on quality. Chin over bar is a lower threshold and that wording lead to poor form as people move their neck and spine to reach it rather than using pure form. Aim for chest to bar, which is a much further range and not necessary, but it leads to pure form. Get your chest like 5-10cm from the bar. Secondly go to dead hang. Not a lot of people do this but the strength and posture gains are undeniable.

I’m 29, I started working out 2 years ago. I got more serious about calisthenics 6 months ago and now I can do 10 pull ups clean. I’m so proud of myself. To me this is a huge accomplishment because I never worked out in my younger 20s until now.

Your lats and biceps and traps might be WAAAY stronger than someone else but if you carry a lot more fat you might not be able to do the same number of pull ups That's why comparisons are often useless unless adjusted for both lean body mass and fat mass

Hey this makes me feel good! I'm 45, female and have a personal best of 7 fully extended pull-ups in a row. 💪 I've also achieved a 2 +1 finger pull-up and a weighted pull-up of up to 12kgs. Yehaaw! Some of this on my youtube channel but please don't diss me if my form isn't perfect. Give me tips.

My record is 36 chin ups, pull ups would probably be around 15 right now 20 if I push it... though through my retraining I am confident that I can achieve 25 and more with time

Closing in on 60 years old with a quickness. I do 5 sets of 12 pullups, I'm generally not going to failure. None of that kipping or swinging crap. My goal is to do the 50 pullups and 100 pushups in five minutes by age 60. Obtainable. I see guys in the gym trying pullups because their are multiple bars around the premises. It's sad how few, if any, clean pullups even the average gymrat can do. I see people looking at me when I do mine. Not bragging at all because there are others that I see do more. But, with so many mirrors about it's impossible to not notice staring. Pullups are one of those exercises that seems impossible if you don't train to do them. Once you build the muscle and proper form they get much easier. And, yes, I have pullup/dip equipment in my house.

I agree pretty much. I’m currently at 14 while weighing 280lbs, yes I’m chubby as hell. Former strength athlete lmao. But weight is still coming down plus my back is still getting stronger so hoping 20 doesn’t take too long

rock climber here, starting with getting good pull up form about 10-15 reps then transitioning to adding weight and finding your max is a fast way to go back to weightless pull-ups for a new record, at least well into the 20-30s

26, getting close to 4 years of training, on and off consistency. The last year and a half has been as consistent as I've ever been, with only a 2 month break when I got a girlfriend. Currently sitting at 16 perfect pullups with a few more that don't quite reach the bar/aren't a perfect lockout. Proud of my progress, and proud of everyone else in this comment section. I'm female- I can do 5 or 6 good form pullups, but I can do 10 if you don't care about form (upper body form is fine but i tend to pull my legs up so gravity hates me a bit less), haha My elementary school PE teacher used to hold bi-annual physical assessments or something to see how many pull-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks, whatever, that you could do. I couldn't do one pull-up- so I therefore followed with wasting two years worth of recess practicing pull-ups and never did one. Over the summer last year I worked up to doing pull-ups and managed to do a sort of half pull-up by the end of it. Did a lot of running when school started, the school year has ended, and I have recently realized that somehow I can do 10 pull-ups on accident. Chin-ups work a bit better though since I have a lot of the grip strength in my fingers

started training this year again. Went from 5 to +- 20 in about 2-3 months. Mind you past a certain point it is mostly mental. On a bad day I have more trouble with 10 than 20 on a good day. Key here is to get proper rest, nutrition and cardio. My goal is 25+ within the year!

@@ankitbishnoi4470 i can do 1 unassisted pull up now :) it took me 3 months. Trained upper body 3x a week. Worked on eccentric pull ups, trained my rotator cuff religiously, and forearm strength.

I am 38 this year, and I have been improving my pull-up slowly. I started with 6 reps for 5 sets during New Year 2024. Now, at the end of Feb, I could do 9 reps for 5+ sets.

Im 29 and cant do one. However ive been working on this. I use the assisted pullup machine and ive made my way from 130lb 8x3 assist to 75 8x3. Eventually ill be able to do one. Making progress every day.

When I started, I could not even do a fucking pull up, and I did not even work my pulling movements. Now I'm able to do 8, and striving for more and more. Never give up, guys, the impossible thing is to win the mr. olympia being natty, but winning your first pull up is 100% possible!

I'm glad that my hard work has payed off.. I'm 24 and not so long ago I couldn't do 6 pull ups.. now I've reach 16 and plan on reaching 25+ before I hit 25.. I know it's possible if I consistently do new forms of training. I haven't even started weighted pull ups yet, and if i can rep 50% of my body weight for 10 reps I definitely see myself hitting 20 by the end of the month..

I recently went on a cut and I’m around 155 lbs at the moment and I started at 167lbs , I just started working out again and I can do around 10 clean ones with around 23% body fat , mind you when I started working out again I had three years lifting experience under my belt before Covid. But yeah my record was 17 and I hope to hit above 20 one day.

I have consistently been limited to around 15 pull ups with body weight but I can also do at least 10 to 12 with about 50 lbs added in a backpack. I only weigh around 135 lbs but my lat pulldown is over 235 lbs which is the max on the machine

I started doing pulls up in March of this year. I'm 59 and in average shape. I started doing a mix of chin ups and pull ups. I started out doing sets of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and then stopped at 10. I do them every other day and feel good.

At a certain point, doing regular pullups doesn’t do much. That’s when you want to start adding weight. I have been doing that for a while now, so a bodyweight pullup is not a problem anymore.

As a skinny guy, pull ups are super easy so 20+ is not even hard. But I can definitely see how a regular guy would struggle to do 10+ pull ups.

Did 13 pullups with 8kg of weights on me for 6 sets a few days ago for the first exercise💪 Gonna up the weight to 10kg next training and go back to around 10 pull ups per set. I could probably hit 16-17 with 8kg weight for 1 set.

I weigh 92kg and do 3 sets of 12 everyday. Consistency is king. I started 12 months ago and I couldn’t do 1. Started with negatives and worked up to one, then just kept going. They suck, but there’s no better feeling than knocking out a clean 12 set after set.

My best is 15, at least 6 years ago. My most recent mac attemp was at the start of the year, got 13. I've been focussing on power and pulling higher lately. By the time i get to the sets where i rep out i only get 6-10 but i get chest to bar for most of them. I'm focussing on cleaning up my muscle up want to get like 3 real nice ones in a row. Then i'll focus on getting a new pullup pb. I am WAY stronger now, the endurance to be able to do 15 + reps is just not there anymore.

it also has a lot to do with your weight. I work out almost every day, and I'm pretty strong. I'm also 215lbs, doing 10 pull ups even if you are ripped is tough when you weigh over 200lbs.

When i was 15 i could do 25 consecutive pullups with no training, not because i was strong, but because i was light (around 115 lbs). Today, I'm waaaay stronger overall but also a lot heavier (175 lbs) i can only do around 18 or 19 now.

Im 14 and my best is 33 with decent form. My weighted pull up record is 47kg so about 105 pound and i weigh around 150. been seriously training for 1 year but i have been training not so consistently for 3-4 years

You don’t need your chin to touch the bar, just the chin to go over the bar.

Real pull ups go from a dead hang pause to a pause at the top, chin clearing the bar (to chest gets bonus point), back down to dead hang and a pause before starting the next rep. That is how a pull up is done. No pauses, anything else is weak and puny.

I can do more pull ups than chin ups (15 vs 12) This is considered unusual because for most people it's the other way round. My back is my strong point but I have relatively weak biceps.

My record few years ago was 12 pullups with +10kg with bit of hanging rest or 10 clean without rest. From 6 it's getting heavy though.

I always get shocked at how little people can do pull ups, in the gym not talking about fat people. I get it, if they don't work on it. I can do a solid 15 pull ups and have gotten up to around 25 before. Just takes allot of training, and if i stop then my number goes back down. Helps having a pull up bar in my door though.

Im 16 and have been doing pullups since I was 12. My record is 26 honest injun I did this once while pumped full of caffeine. Other that I can usually bang out 22 good form.

15 pull-ups good form. And can do 1 muscle up at a time. Currently not in peak performance cause having treatment for kidney stones but will enter thae 1% again very soon🗿☮️.

We can be self limiting so sometimes it is good to know what others have been able to achieve. It sets the bar a little higher. Otherwise you might train for a month, get to 5 pullups and think you are king shit cause you are better than your 2 buddies and stop there.

I can do 1 1RM pull up (assisted by holding on to my arm) and 7 pull ups at 180lbs 5’7 14yrs old and around 12 chin ups and 33 push ups those are my prs no clue if the other two are good but atleast i know where i am in pull ups also 5 strict 2 cheat pull ups

I can do 8-10 clean pull ups and 10-12 clean chin ups at 92kg Bodyweight. Proud of my Results but still Looking forward to cracking the 15-20 milestone (Edit: spelling)
