You know, the Sandman fight kind of felt like the true final boss for this challenge due to him consuming so many punches while still being really difficult, while Macho was just a pretty difficult fight and Tyson combined everything special in this run for one last fight (dodging for entire rounds, countering signature attacks, and a bit of RNG, with a lot of precision required)

MTPO is one of those games that is VERY nostalgic for me. One hint of the music or the visuals, and I'm back in that period of my life where I'm in private school for the first time, the NES was hooked up to the small downstairs TV in my home (before, everything was in the family living room, and a couple of years later, I'd have localized everything to my own bedroom), and I was getting into pro wrestling. It's a very specific place and time, and only a few games or shows take me back to not only the visuals of that place, but the feeling of it: this, Goonies II, watching Robotech, and WWF Superstars of Wrestling. Hours spent just staring at the TV and figuring this game out. A large part of me misses those days. It's WEIRD to me how few honest-to-God sequels some of the best games have had. Super Punch-Out!! was great, but somehow lacked the feeling this game gave; the Wii game was...meh. I still want a Kid Icarus sequel that FEELS like Kid Icarus, too. Such simple formulas in enormously popular games, and then nothing else.

It’d have to be at least 1 per fight, possibly 2 for cases such as king hippo, sandman, and the don flamenco rematch. There’s probably some other factors to it, so I’ll add 20 to it and say 37. Time to watch and see how close I was. Edit: I didn’t realize that victory by decision was decided by points instead of hp values in the original, so I’m already way off.

You're overthinking macho, you have loads of time where he's idle. You only need one random star because of the knockdown issue not changing the punch count. You dont need to get fancy with long/short delays good/bad pattern if you dont get time sensitive optimal luck there's still tons of windows where he just wont do anything winding up for the mini spin. It's of course possible you dont get the at most 4 minispins necessary to win in r1 but similar to hippo the odds are very low. So, effectively 3/8
@Papamanual

technical knock out. The three knockdowns in one round is pretty rare in real boxing. 90%+ of TKO are when the ref stops the fight as one fighter cannot defend themselves any more. Assuming that each time that game checks whether Bald Bull should charge is independent, then you could use a negative binomial distribution to calculate the probability of getting fast enough bull changes. A negative binomial distribution can be used to determine the probability of having a certain number of failures (in this case, checks where he doesn't charge) to get a set number of successes (in this case, the 2 charges that you need). So using the time limit, calculate the max number of failures that you can deal with, then use the negative binomial distribution to find the probability of getting that number of less. However, this also relies on knowing the probability that he charges on a single check, which you said is also unknown, so it's a moot point unless that can be determined. The chance of getting rolling jabs vs a hook later on also complicates the calculation a bit, but assuming that's independent of the bull charge times, then it can be accounted for without too much trouble.

@jamesblalack5131
@jamesblalack5131 3 месяца назад
For Bald Bull 1: It might be possible to cut out the depedency on the low refill and the 1 in 2 random star. The refill for phase 2 is the same as the refill for phase 3, and phase 2 has more time to land lots of punches than phase 3, especially if you wait until round 3. My idea would be to dodge until round 3. Then counter the first bull charge at 1:10. I suspect that between then and 2:30 is enough time to land 7 punches, though I'm no tasser so I can't verify this. BY directing all 7 punches into this phase instead of stocking up on stars beforehand, it should be able to do 80 damage, right? Then at 2:30, counter the bull charge for the win. If this doesn't work for some technical reason, I'd be glad to hear about it.

For Mr. Sandman: I notice that one of the star punches in phase 2 is landed while the punch counter is at 1, causing it to not increment. If the punches could be reordered, we should be able to enter phase 3 with the punch counter at 3 instead of 4, right? Then we could land our two star punches instad of going for a random star. Then the punch counter is at 1, so now this star can be guaranteed. Again, if there is some technical reason that this doesn't work, I'd be glad to hear it. This should bump the odds from 3/128 to 3/64.

Here’s this man explaining how to beat this game in the fewest punches possible, meanwhile I’m learning there’s apparently a fast and slow dodge??????? Genuinely didn’t know that
