Last year YT kept recommending me videos on Autism in women and when I finally watched one, two, few... I broke down in tears, it was like a new easier world opened up for me and I could finally understand so many things about myself, radically accept and start pouring love into the parts of myself I ve learned to judge or let others do that... The masking I've done has exhausted me. I dont want to take this up with my physician because I spent past 6 mths trying to get evaluated for PTSD but it is so difficult to even get that through our health care system, which is bizarre to me. The lack of knowledge and training in PTSD, autism in adults, undiagnosed autism, autism in women is bad here where i live but it's probably a problem pretty much everywhere. Thank you for making your part in educating the world ❤🙏💯😊

I've been trying to find the strength to ask my therapist about autism. She diagnosed adhd which I never expected but now I'm concerned that autism has been here all along

I was diagnosed with BPD when I was about 18 after years of seeing a therapist, just recently my worker put me forward for getting tested for ADHD and autism at the age of 29. Personally I don’t think I have autism but I believe I have ADHD, I don’t know how much of a difference it will make in my life to get this diagnosis though.

Relatable. An ADHD diagnosis does help because medication makes a lot of people better, and there are things you can do in how you live your life to cope and compensate. But nothing can drastically change our lives and make life easy or normal at this point. To some degree we just have to know ourselves and accept it. I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and the a new doctor figured out instead I have PTSD plus the antidepressants alone didn't help me for the last 23 years. I have a lot of symptoms of Autism (and another clue is my brother and Mom and grandad show signs) but I'm 41 so I don't think getting a diagnosis would make my life better. I think it could have helped in school...except it wouldn't have because back then the word "neurodiverse" hadn't been invented, nerds were uncool, and the only people we knew had Autism were very obvious, like Rain Man or like kids who are nonverbal and nonsocial. So adults wouldn't have known what to do to help me and others who maybe are on the Spectrum but present as just basically high strung and awkward. I'm on meds for depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and I've tried a few meds for ADHD but so far no help there. The meds I'm on have made me better, not great but notably better, so what could help other than trauma therapy?? I don't know. But I do encourage you to find out if you have ADHD and if something can help because it is possible.

Been going to therapy for over a decade, got diagnosed with depression, anxiety, BPD, CPTSD, been on almost every SSRI, SNRI, SARI, and every other form of antidepressant on the market, and besides just being generally more educated about mental health and my own emotions, NOTHING has gotten better or helped. I had been trying to get them to look into ADHD/autism for the last few years, even "aced" their prelim tests and explained extensively pointing to videos like yours and scientific articles where I extensively relate, and they don't care to go any further. It's so GD maddening, like i already don't have enough stress, they gotta make this difficult for me to just know about myself!

I used to think I had BPD until I realized it was definitely autism. My brother is heavily autistic. (Aspergers, schizophrenia, Tourettes, anxiety, bpd, ocd and adhd) so it was always in the back of my mind as I got into my teens. But once I began to look more into autism in women, the list started to go from, “oh i have a few of these things” to “omg, all of this is me and everything makes sense” like, things are connected and I understand myself more now, and im more forgiving towards myself and treat myself more delicately when it comes to my issues rather than hating myself. And most importantly, i finally feel like I belong to a group. I always felt like an alien. Like every single other person on this planet was a pro at being human and I couldn’t figure it out. Now I know im not alone. It feels nice.

I don't have autism (at least I don't show some of the traits). However, I do have another neurodivergent disorder (ADHD). I wasn't diagnosed until I was 58 years old. I keep being amazed how understood I feel when I see that other people with ADHD do a lot of the same things that I do. I am glad it is finally becoming widely recognized. I just started watching you, so I don't know how you feel about what I am going to say next. I only wish that fibromyalgia was recognized like this too. 😪 So many doctors refuse to see it as a disease. The way that pain is processed in our brains is very different than so called normal people. More research would be done to help us if it was recognized and accepted (like post-COVID with whom we share a lot of symptoms). I was extremely blessed that my primary physician believed me, and sent me to a specialist that diagnosed me within 6 months of it becoming full blown. Because of them, I am able to lead a "real life".

I feel like I didnt have these issues when I was a child. I developed most of my issues through adolescent trauma. I thought might be ptsd.

I am a psychologist that has been working with children with autism for years. My oldest son who is 31 now, was diagnosed with ADHD, ODD and bipolar at 9 with a psychiatrist. I started telling him when he was around 18 or 20 to go see a neurodevelopmental specialist for adults. He went about 6 months ago and was diagnosed with autism. His younger brother also has autism level 1. Myself, I was diagnosed with ADD (now Adhd) when I was 14.

I fell into finding out about ND simply because I wanted to know more ASMR and frisson. Cause I wanted know why different sounds,voices or visuals would make my brain tingle like crazy.

They “don’t think about the neurodivergent conditions” cause most of them just want to find a disorder they can “treat” with medications instead of taking a holistic approach where the find the root cause of your struggles :) :)

I think it's important to speak more about the gendered aspect here. BPD was once known as histrionic disorder. literally a stereotype of the hysterical woman. It is extremely common for autistic women to be misdiagnosed with BPD, and it leads to usually a lifetime of wrong medication which can cause death, as well as lifelong health conditions as a result. If this is a simple as clinicians forgetting something, then frankly none of those people should be working in their job. if you were capable of simply forgetting, that women can have neurodivergent conditions, you shouldn't be a medical professional.

Everyone now wants to pass as neurodivergent. It covers many bad and frustrating behaviours.

So what’s your excuse for being an awful person?
@kristinathomas5890
@kristinathomas5890 24 дня назад
No, not everyone, mostly people who actually are. People who try to be normal and literally can't. In some cases it doesn't affect their life much but it is interesting to know yourself right? But as for people who are talking about it a lot or complaining about it? Make me some examples about how all that is just whining and excuses? This isn't about skipping work or screaming at your boyfriend. This is about feeling always awkward socially no matter how much you try to copy normal behavior, and/or having panic attacks just from too much noise and light or from too big of groups of people, and/or being distracted by everything around you constantly no matter how much willpower and discipline you try to have, etc. There are a ton of things online that talk about being neurodiverse because it's worth talking about. People who feel normal don't need to talk about how they feel normal. They only post about their careers, kids, vacations or whatever interests them, and it doesn't bug you, so you're not there telling them they're all pretending. Am I wrong? Honestly it does bug me to see all the amazing accomplishments because I'm jealous, and yep that's immature and ugly of me. But why would I go on their posts and say they're all fake? Why can't we assume people are genuine unless proven otherwise?

I believe that the vast majority of people are actually having these "frustrating behaviors" because they actually have the condition that you think they are claiming to fake for sympathy. The fact of the matter is: always facing skepticism from people for these things can be frustrating, so your "insight" is another "frustrating behavior". Regardless, an explanation is not an excuse; you don't get to be a problem on purpose just because you have something that causes you to be a problem sometimes.
