The baseline of Life is supposed to be boring. It's stable and knowable, which supports being able to carry out the biological imperative, which isn't just procreation, but successful rearing of offspring in order to perpetuate the species. Non-boring things are supposed to be the infrequent spice of Life, which makes them special, both those good and those bad.
