I noticed this as well. Quite a few times I had to drop the audio from stereo back to mono to improve the sound quality only marginally.

There are a lot of issues with some older BBC source tape because of the way they were stored before we had reliable digital storage, because the technology used to encode the tape wasn't good to begin with, and because was a tendency to reuse the same tape over and over again. The issue with this sound is that it was/is in the stereo format and it sounds as though the two sound encoding lines have degraded at different parts of the tape, which is why it'll cut out in one ear and then, later on, cut out in the other ear, this could use some remastering, but that would require funds and a will to get it done, or a really nice person with a lot of time on their hands.

Doing great things for the economy but at great cost to the workers seems like an irrecocilable contradiction to me. It never voted in 1973 to lose its sovereignty and be subservient to rule from European bureaucrats in Brussels. The whole point of Brexit is to ditch Euro trash regulations. We already know the UK’s socialist, no communist deep state tried to sabotage Brexit. Now the UK can independently trade with the US. Too bad for the EU that needs trade (again - like the US and Britain) in order to finance their socialist governments.

I'm in politics, and what you said is true. Small fishes tends to act big, while the biggest fish has the worst ego imaginable; albeit they don't show it publicly, it's crystal clear based on how they respond and acts. It's true, that somehow the supreme executive power of a leader (President/PM) should be clashed upon a "pure" personification of a national subject. In britain case, its the queen; a living representation of ancestry, culture and might of Great Britain. It's sad that legislative body of most democracies, fails to "embodied" this personification to match the leader. In the end, it's only transactional politics between the triangle (exec,leg,jud).

There is one overiding and invaluable plus to having a monarch. It prevents presidential election politics. That would be like having a brexit referendum every x years.

Here's my opinion as a Brit. She was pure evil - she divided Britain between north and south, privatized govt. assets leading to dramatic price increases, destroyed worker's unions, sold council houses creating a crisis of affordable housing for poorer people, engaged in a pointless war, alienated European allies etc etc. Britain became a more selfish, mean-spirited and insular country because of her. Don't even get me started on Tony Blair.

@@skeptical_sorcerer the unions destroyed themselves with there corruption and there endless and unnecessary strikes. Unions are deeply harmful and increasingly unneeded in the modern world. So regardless they were doomed to fail. She privatized things the government shouldn't have owned and still shouldn't own. The Falkland weren't pointless and the simple fact that britain went and defended the folks refutes the premise she made britain more selfish.

Thatcher loved her country and did what she thought was best for its future, you had to live through the 70's in the UK to understand what happened in the 80's. I did not vote for a load of union bully boys following their agenda, I voted for a government to follow the voters agenda. Blair was a stupid little boy playing big boy games, self serving and a horrible rich man, way more than thatcher ever had money wise.

Speaking as an ex-Brit (now Spanish and European, thankfully), in many circles nowadays, Blair is seen in a very bad light - someone who has done very well for himself post-power but will always have the shadow of "war criminal" hanging over him regarding Iraq. Plus, he was simply a fake, a man who initially hid behind the terribly embarrassing tag of "Cool Britannia" and who ultimately failed to really connect with people.
