He told the other team "Hush Little Baby Don't say a word. Never mind that noise you heard. It's just the beast under your bed, In Your closet IN YOUR HEAD!!"
And he did it with everyone knowing exactly what he was going to throw. The man perfected the cut fastball. The only pitch i made my son throw 50 of EVERY practice. By the time he was 12 no one could hit him
The song DIDN’T help Mariano get famous… Mariano did that himself by being the best closer and postseason closer baseball has ever seen. Choose your words better.
@@aybgreg6748 That’s the OP’s point: It didn’t help him become famous. Imagine if he sucked as a closer. Wouldn’t matter what song he came out to. Rivera doesn’t even like the song. He is on record saying he never would’ve chosen it. So, it had nothing to do with his success.
SIRIUS (as a bulls fan) will always give you chills No matter if it’s 90’s (or even when they had D Rose before he got injured) you can feel that energy That and Enter Sandman are probably the 2 best entrances to have no matter what. It’s awesome
Actually, Rivera wanted to use Panamanian church music as his walk out when the scoreboard and broadcasting team asked for his input out of courtesy. A relative of mine was working for the organization at the time. The scoreboard guy at the time came up with the idea to play Enter Sandman.
Not even close, and I love the whole thing with Diaz. Enter Sandman is the greatest song for a closer. The mythical legend who puts people to sleep? Exit light enter night?
The greatest closer of all-Time. As Yankee fans we all knew when Mo was coming in the game it was over. He was so dominant that the few times he gave up a run we were shocked that’s how good he was!!!
What is sad is that world series, when Trevor came in to get the save, Fox went to commercials, so fans watching the game on TV could not see how insanely rad Hoffman's music was. LAME. But I did not know that the Yankees brass copied the idea from Hoffman.
Here’s a cool fact. Hells Bells in San Diego at the old Padres stadium “Jack Murphy” or “Qualcomm Stadium” was located in a valley called Mission Valley where the brand new “Snapdragon Stadium” exists today. Every time Trevor Hoffman came out of the bullpen in middle of the 9th, I could hear the bells and crowd scream from my house which is 3+ miles from the stadium! Childhood memories i will never forget! Now the Padres owner and GM made all these trades and spent all this money and the games are almost always sold out during the season and i see people all over SD county and Baja California repping the Brown & Gold SD hats! It’s super cool to cross over to Tijuana a city sponsoring the Padres and see billboards of Machado, Tatis, Soto & Bogaerts and the billboards say “El Equipo de Casa” (the home team). San Diego is such a beautiful city full of nice people and amazing food and a majority of the time it feels like only San Diego natives, people in the military and Mexicans respect the city and that’s kind of sad because we would love to have more people root for us to succeed. Now that we are all in with all these amazing trades and big contracts, i hope its our time to taste glory in professional sports and earn a little respect because respect is better earned than given. God bless and here’s to a healthy 2023 to all the MLB teams! 🤎💛
I wish people would give san diego the love it deserves. It really is a beautiful city. I also pass snapdragon stadium daily to get to work. Barely even 3 minutes down the road.
Actually, he did have say in it. He had no idea who Metallica was but when the sound crew asked him if he like this song, he said sure, and it’s stuck.
A relative of mine was on one of the Yankees media crews at the time. He first asked if he could meet Hettfield to make sure that the band and him weren’t Satan worshipers. Once he got the assurance he said okay to it.
While many greats have donned the task of closer over the years, no one was on the level of Mo. Very grateful I had many opportunities to see him throw. Dude threw ched!!!
Was Mariano Rivera, the only player that used this walkout song? Was there sort of written (or unwritten rule) that only once a player uses the song, than no other player can use that song ? & was this done before or after Virginia Tech started using this song?
Rivera had no say, My ass! When You are the greatest relief pitcher of all time and only unanimous HOF inductee, You have a say in everything. Rivera could have requested they play Blank Space by Taylor Swift and the Yankees would have gladly done it. Mo rules!
Mo really didn't care. He just took the song as meaning it was time to go to work. If he really wanted to pick his song it would've been something religious based.
Why so bitter? Who burned your toast? Hoffman started the whole trend. There's nothing that beats that song. Enter Sandman might be as good as some. But it does not supersede hell's bells.
Rivera would reject Hells Bells and threaten to retire if they played it. Being a Christian, he'd have enough disdain for Metallica. He should have entered to "Can't Touch This."
