"It reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again." I could talk for hours about why I love baseball. But that quote, in a nutshell, sums it up.
Hopefully, they'll let him in when he croaks. Fay Vincent blamed Barts death on Pete. No one in our lifetime will ever come close to what he did on the field
That pitch he hit the grand slam on looked like a slow pitch softball pitch. Short field, pitching was trash, but hey "you hang em, we'll bang em" no matter what it was still impressive.
commenting in 2024 bc I am pumped that david got above 5% on his first HoF ballot this year. given how difficult it is for 3Bs to make the HoF, with or without an injury-shortened career, it’ll certainly be a tough fight… but you can make the argument that he has the stats. i think most ppl are worried about his career WAR and his defensive stats… but his career WAR is honestly ok, especially considering that we seem to be trending in the direction of “10-year career peak” assessments and away from “net career output” assessments. additionally, the advanced defensive stats are the least refined/ most problematic modern stats that we have, and ppl throw them out/ discredit them for a reason. he’s a multi-time golden glove winner, and that should speak for itself. (he’s certainly not even close to a below average defender, as one of the aforementioned useless/flawed stats would suggest). additionally, he’s one of only four captains in the mets history, and he’s arguably the person who has had the most net positive impact- on and off the field, while playing and in his retirement-on the mets in modern history. if voters are using the “character defense” as a legitimate reason to keep people out of the HoF, i think we could also consider using the “character defense” in the affirmative to give an extra push to players like Wright who had an undeniably positive impact on & off the field (and whose legacy is still felt at every game in Flushing!!) David Wright for the HoF for his undeniable Mets legacy; for his character, determination, and leadership; and for being a Damn Good Player!!
Reminds me of that scene in Bull Durham where Crash tipped Nuke's pitch and the batter sent it to the bleachers. And Crash said to the batter "What are you waiting for, dummy? I just gave you a gift!"
This Narrator has a very boring, PowerPoint presentation voice , needs to get a job and move out of mommy’s basement while trying to be a RU-vid influencer.
Disco Demolition tickets were .98 cents and a disco record, however some of the ticket takers didn't collect the records at first, leading to vinyl disco record Frisbees from the upper deck flying over the first game outfielder's heads. It was by far the biggest crowd ever at Comiskey Park, sold out with hundreds climbing over turnstiles and fences. It was all of Chicago and suburbs teenage and young adult heavy metal rock crowd waiting for the band to come out, pretty much ignoring the first game and partying it up under a blue cloud of marijuana smoke. The outfielders put on their batting helmets and tried to ignore the vinyl Frisbees and fireworks. At the end of the first game, no one remembers who won, radio DJ Steve Dahl took a couple laps of the field in a jeep, led a few anti-disco cheers and blew up the records. After that it was supposed to be over so the second game could start, but it wasn't. It only took a few to start it, but in moments it became a wave and the crowd became the concert, sliding down the foul poles and taking over the field for about an hour and a half. Also setting a bonfire of the blown up disco records in center field. The second game was cancelled.
