One thing that I loved about this conversation is when you guys were talking about ignoring comments at a certain point. I'm glad I'm not the only one to dread reading them sometimes. A couple weeks ago I tasked one of my full time team members to monitor my comments for a few days and sort through the filtered messages. Two days later he jokingly said "I would have quit making videos after some of these and I also think I need therapy now." Lol. Keep up the great work Sara.
Patreon comes down to a lot of factors, and like most, it's about treating it with respect and adding more value. I've sustained for almost two years now with less than 4K subs with a strong Patreon approach. It's about knowing your target audience, both what they want to see and how much they are able to support - and delivering value on that consistently.
Super interesting to hear Matt's perspective! Especially how he changed it later on from just Patreon to then Patreon + sponsorships. Seems like a super fine line but he handled it like a champion. Thanks for sharing this, Sara!
I feel like if anyone else would have moved into sponsorship after being against them they would have gotten an ear full in the comments. Matt seems madd likable so no one cares. Everyone wants him to get sponsored.
