Purdue's Matt Ramos explains the mindset that led to his historic win over Iowa's Spencer Lee during the 125 lb Semifinals of the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Subscribe to the NCAA Championship RU-vid channel: ru-vid.com...
I was really impressed watching his press conference. Such a great attitude. So grateful to his coaches, teammates and to the program. Only a sophomore but a really mature mindset.
Not really a surprise Matt scored both times he faced Spencer and glory looked like he was on a mission then the announcing was horrible in title match saying glory was glad he didn't have to face Lee glory was on his game
Happy for his win but we all know manifesting stuff into existence is bs. The world don’t work that way. The only way I see it is having a positive attitude but even then there’s some thing out of your control.
As someone who wrestled for 12 years and follows matches, I think Lee was hurt in his quarter-final match. After a takedown in 2nd he continuously favored his left leg. He had no acl's. Lee is clearly the better wrestler. The best just doesnt always win. Congrats to this guy though on his win.
You know Spencer Lee had 58 straight wins before this match, loses this match and cries medical forfeit for the rest of his matches. He didn't look like he had any problem with his knee, just a problem with losing. He should not be seen as a goat, but put in a category with Ronda Rousey all is good when they win, but if they lose legitimately they are poor losers. There was nothing wrong with your knee you just lost.
@@jmauler7283 that’s what I’m saying. Regardless Spencer didn’t look right, he knows there’s no excuse for that loss, doesn’t matter. He made the same mistake when they first met, this time Ramos caught him.
He was thrown on his back at least 5 or 6 times in 20 matches this year. Against bad competition in a bad weight class. Iowa coaches and fans were too dumb to see he wasnt nearly 100%. Shouldnt have wrestled at all and walked away a 3 time champ. Its laughable to think a healthy lee would do anything but tech fall or pin a guy like ramos who is trying all upper body throws. Carter storacci was taken down 1 time all year, taken down!!!!! Most elite wrestlers will not be put on there back more than 1 time all year, most not at all.
SL was clearly hurting during this match. As we watching he was tenitive about taking a shot. His normal aggression was missing. It was not till the next day that it was revealed his leg was a problem. That is wrestling. MR took advantage and did his job. That is one reason why 4X champs are so rare. Otherwise MR would not doubt have been tech falled again.
Spencer did the worst thing for the Sport today for young wrestlers. Sad bc throughout piaa career and ncaa career he has been a class act. True colors show
What do you mean the worst thing? He MFF'd out because he is really injured. He was still in attendance for his team during the medal round Saturday and did collect his 6th place trophy during the award ceremony.
He grudged his way into a lucky situation where he got time to rest during a challenge that should have been given in the first place. Lee is better and every coach would pick Lee first.
Every wrestler has 1 move they have as a go to in this type of situation. He nailed it! Regardless of the challenge, he was the one pushing the action at the end.
No one is saying he’s better, he just wrestled his heart out and a situation opened up and he took advantage of it. The better wrestler doesn’t always come out on top
I’m an Iowa fan and I like Matt Ramos and just because Spencer Lee’s time came to an end doesn’t supersede the possibility that Ramos’ sheer willpower doesn’t simultaneously honor Lee’s legacy. Lee’s Medical Forfeit is him saying: “Sort it out from here.” ✊ 🫡
