I'm 22 years old and I like men over 40. What I usually see is that they are likely to have prejudice against women my age, mainly because they affirm we are "living different stages". They do not understand that we can be different in terms of age but still have same or similar objectives in life like having a relationship, living together, or even having a family. Many tend to see us as a kind of fulfilled fantasy and do not open themselves in terms of love. I just do not know why Jonathon... age is only a number, there is much more beyond. I had a relationship like that in my 20's (he was 44). Now I'm 44 and he's much older ...and we recently rekindled what we once had...he actually admitted that even though he was totally smitten with me at the time he thought I was just after his money and wanted to trap him into marriage. Which was total bias nonsense because I never wanted children...yes he was rich but the money wasn't his appeal...it was his total ability to be raw and vulnerable with me that I fell in love with. Was so nice to finally be able to be open and laugh about missed opportunities ...never know what the future holds now.

I'm of the opinion that men never fall in love with anyone other than themselves. Whatever they decide to pursue with a woman is driven by interests only or their needs in that specific point in time and only when it's in their interest to do so and not a day sooner. They're quite calculating and almost cruel.
Some of us got wounded, sure... and then we processed it and, though we continue to grow, we look around and see a whole lot of stuff we want no part of, so we stay single. Which, being 49, I've grown into. I know what I want, but also what I don't want, and unfortunately, the women I come across that aren't married, usually quickly remove all doubt. Domineering, loud, crude, flaky, and talking the 'hip-hop' lingo. No thank you. Going to take the hard pass.
I'm so tired of being a man"s housekeeper, entertainer, life coach and now therapist?, I'm at a stage where I just don't want to put any more work into any man because it's tedious, and he should really be doing this work himself. Then there's the man's confidence I need to boost and need to make him feel like a hero so he can step in and feel like a man, and in bed I need to give him positive feedback, so he doesn't bruise again. By that time I feel like someone who's fallen face down into her spag bowl and fell asleep there.

I'm just not a guider. If a guy doesn't take charge and guide the relationship, I will just let it fail or lose interest. Being a guider is a bit masculine. Although...this is definitely why my current relationship is failing. He needs this and I just can't provide it.

Jonathon, so a woman alone, without family and without friends, will never be loved!? He must like her and not her family or friends. And if middle age men don't value sex (they do) women do even if they don't say it or they don't know it. A good couple is: two persons that love each other (not their family and friends) and have good sex together. You are almost saying that being friends is enough to be a couple after the age of 50/60.

It makes sense because, although I’m not looking for a fully committed relationship, I am looking for male companionship to do activities with, accompany me to family events, be my “plus one” at a charity fundraiser, etc. it makes sense that finding someone who fits into that lifestyle groove would become increasingly attractive and even relied upon in a good way. But here’s the white elephant in the room, I think a lot of elderly people don’t want to “go the distance” to a fully committed marriage because of personal accumulated wealth, homes they may own, and dependents that are their first priority such as adult children and grandchildren etc. ... and it could get kind of messy regarding future inheritance.

I guess that’s the largest reason why long-distance relationships don’t work especially later on in life. But that seems so limiting because you want to have a different experience and you have more resources and time and mental capacity to have a different experience than when you were younger.
Thanks for your comments and I have something for you to consider. 93% of communication is non verbal. So, emails, texts and even phone isn't fully expressing what is said; therefore, it is through face to face that we fully engage with another. It takes to emotionally healthy people to be secure enough in themselves and committed to the process for LDR to work. Does that make sense?
Jonathon Aslay Yes that does make sense. I understand that a lot of communication is nonverbal, and it also depends on their love language. So your point brings up the biggest barrier “it is through Face to face that we fully engage”. though I can see that a larger part of the relationship will develop without having the physical aspect. You would get to know someone on a deeper level than you normally would constantly having contact with them physically or face-to-face. That being said that’s the awesome thing about technology these days. FaceTime is a game changer. At least it would help bridge the gap in LDR barriers.

I have kids spread out across four different states and grandkids so it makes a big difference in how I can connect with them in a real sense and see them face-to-face and what they are doing. So if men connect and /or fall in love through activities and face-to-face, At least it would help. Although not as good as being in person!!
I think the childhood drama and adultd hurts and the whole insane thing about self love is very cultural aspect and in this case very American. This search for self fulfillment is totally on the individual culture that is starting to manipulate the world. I dont believe in all that and cant apply it to my culture but it is sure interesting to listen to your point of view. .

Do you not believe in childhood and adult trauma causing wounds that persist throughout our lives? Or you do not believe that self-love can heal these wounds and allow for greater happiness in life and improved relationships? I do understand the part about it not being a part of your culture. I don't feel it is truly a part of ANY culture...but I do believe this awareness is increasing world-wide.

I've been alone since 1986 after a bad relationship. Only been with one man (older than me, on and off from 2005 to 2010). At 69 (3.5 yrs ago) I finally meet someone I really love being with. He's in S. Africa and can't get out. Am I lucky or what? I say don't wait too long, don't enjoy your own company too much. Years fly by and soon you'll be alone in your end years. My overseas man said he'd be with me to the end, look after each other. But the Universe makes us wait.
