ABOUT THE FILM: By taking the plight of Venice as a metaphor, the film shows how Venice has become an ‘absolute fake’, a city where the notion of an ‘authentic experience’ is rendered ridiculous. The film shows us humanity’s dangerous fascination with destruction and how we are participants of our own destruction (global warming, pollution, environmental disasters). The sound- track includes ‘rooftops’ (1982) by Colin Potter, a pioneer of British experimental music.

I get the point being illustrated, and truly enjoyed the short. There are many engineering projects being developed and installed to safeguard Venice. Also, just because it is seemingly stuck in its glorious past and centenary traditions, does not make it a 'simulation', or a simulacra for that matter. Venice has stayed true to itself since its founding, I would call it a continuation, not a simulation. The only thing that could pass as a 'simulation' are the Gondolas put in service of tourists, but even then, that of the gondola is a tradition passed down through the generations, and locals utilize them to cross from one shore to the other on a daily basis, as they did centuries before.
