I agree with the previous commenter, you are a marvelous teacher. If you do not do this in a classroom for a living, many students are losing out on an amazing experience. I was an electrical contractor for over 40 years and enjoyed training youngsters more than anything else. Next to you, I am a hack.

Can someone explain how the aluminum disk is spinning due to induction from the electromagnets spinning adjacent to it. I always thought aluminum is not magnetic. Does is change properties when exposed to magnetic flux lines?
@JeremyFieldingSr
@JeremyFieldingSr 5 лет назад
@mike it helps to watch a few times. I cover this in the video. Also review part one. I cover this with cooper as well which is not magnetic but does the same thing
@TSBoncompte
@TSBoncompte 5 лет назад
if i'm getting this right, it does. remember how whenever you move a magnet over a conductor, the conductor becomes a bit of a magnet ? well, then when it's near a spinning bunch of magnets the aluminum becomes itself a magnet and, like any other magnet, is attracted and repelled by other magnets.

A brilliant teaching demonstration of how these motors work Jeremy. I have only just found these videos this morning and am going through them one after the other! Much better than my physics classes of more than 50 years ago. I had forgotten most of what I learned then, and you have given me much more information than I had before. As an ex teacher, you have a natural affinity for dissemining information clearly, and if you are not already a teacher you should think about becoming one. You are a natural!
