Hello everyone! In this video we open a Special Edition Collector's Booster Box of the Magic: The Gathering The Lord of the Rings Tales of Middle-Earth set and then perform a little 'profit analysis' (if you can even call it that) at the end which simply consists of scanning all of the cards into the DelverLens App and looking at the total / some individual card prices.
As a fan of the Lord of the Rings I love this set, and it is packed with a lot of cool (and expensive) cards. This isn't the craziest box in the world, but we did get some pretty good pulls, so feel free to watch along and check them out.
Obviously the prices for these cards will fluctuate wildly over time, as all collectables do in a secondary market, but even moreso because these prices are taken the day after the official launch of this product, so some prices are highly inflated while other cards are currently undervalued.
I could easily see the Surge Foil 'box topper' cards plummeting in price over the coming weeks, as the supply was previously limited to appearing in just 1% of Collector's Boosters from the main LotR set, (I'm pretty sure, don't quote me on that lol), but they are guaranteed Surge Foil in the 2nd to last card slot of these boosters.
I also imagine that the new 'Scene Box' cards will probably come down in price over time as more of those are opened and the supply floods the market. However, I could also see certain ones increasing in price over time if they fit into an existing popular meta deck.
Also, there were no prices listed in the DelverLens App for many of the new Showcase Scrolls / Silver Screen Foil cards, some of which have base versions currently sitting anywhere from $3-$10+, so I'd imagine that these new printings fall somewhere near the current price for existing versions and so that value isn't factored into these numbers either.
Anyways, this is all to say, quite obviously to most I'm sure, that these prices are highly subject to change over time and that anything listed only represents a snapshot of the most current and accurate data as of the time of opening / upload (November 4th, 2023).
This is my first time uploading a narrated box opening, which I was incredibly nervous to do, but I had a lot of fun making it so let me know if this kind of content interests you and I will do what I can to make more in the future.
(Side note: In case anyone was wondering, I'm not sure what the 'pringling' / curling problem is like on the Surge Foils, BUT, the Silver Screen foils have already started to curl slightly... but horizontally.
I opened them in a climate controlled room at ~55% humidity, carried them ever so briefly across a hallway into another climate controlled room at ~55% humidity, and sleeved them right after scanning them all into DelverLens.
All in all they were exposed to air for less than 2 hours and as I was double-sleeving some of the more expensive Silver Screen Foils I noticed that the sleeves weren't quite sliding into each other as easily as they should... because the cards were starting to bend horizontally, concave from the face of the card.
Pretty crazy how that can happen so quickly. I know that the curling problem stems from a difference in humidity between the card's printing location and current location, but generally I find ~55-60% humidity is good to keep most basic foils 'flat' and I didn't notice any issues with the Surge Foils, so I'm wondering if it's an issue unique to the Silver Screen Foiling process.
I don't know. Just thought it was interesting and that I'd mention it.)
