Im in banking myself. IBs consisting of only Front and Back is ridiculously false. Banks are like a big corporates mate. There are so many divisions and departments! So 10yrs 100k def make sense.
@@DhdhfufjdnbI made 100k freelancing EVERY JOB I took Ask him if he's perm or freelancer in Investment banking I hear the actual perms (employees) get paid a pitteance basically a low salary with rest in shares. But they take the shares off you without compensation if you leave before making VP. You sign up for this slavery when u join at low rank Rip off in banking
@@user-kk5bz3pf2m if you segregate it into front and back office, then yeah, totally a difference. Front office is more of a client facing and more lucrative one. Front Office starting Total Comp in Bulge Bracket (JP, Goldman, BOA likes) is $110,000 - $140,000. As you go higher your base does increase and so does your bonus. And bonus becomes a major chunk of your comp as you keep going higher and higher. Even more than your base.
"go above and beyond to educate yourself" Translation: be prepared to work 12 hours (not including food breaks) and at the end of the feedback year the bottom 20-35% get culled.
@@potatoisgoodnotacherry yes. It means Selective slaughter. Pick up a book. Jobs like that are not safe bets - they get rid of you to make room for grads that will do the same work for half the cost.
@@TheDragonaf1 how do I make sure that the same won't happen to me? I'm in my last year of highschool and after university, I want to go into investment banking.
@@potatoisgoodnotacherry don't. Go into tech instead, your generation will be decided by AI. Stay out of finance as much as you can it's stale. Or do the smart thing and learn how to make a side job your main income that way you keep 100% of it post tax.
Alot of investment bankers have their own insane investment portfolio and the good ones don't splash the cash, much more respect and trusted professionally.
@Ashnesss I worked for a top investment banking company in London, what's your point of reference... what you watch on your little TV and tiktoks. GTFOH.
my mate is making such money trading crap cars, bikes, scooters etc they work 14h days work twice as much for 2 x as much , big fucking deal. 2 decades ago they were all at least getting nice fat bonuses now only a bunch of them
100k is not good money for London and certainly not for long hours of investment banking . He is not front office. More like back office support . . Front office after 10 years should be making 500k to 1 million plus minimum
@@stockholmpublishings2937Okay he knows that. The interviewer specifically said “okay so around 100k” and the dude said “yeah something like that” Maybe use your listening skills before you call out others
Wouldn’t want that lifestyle for 10 times what I earn! I’ll stick to cycling, running and playing tennis before/after/during work days at the foot of the Austrian alps with my office and children’s school and kindergarten in the same riverside village.
100k after 10yrs in IB... Not front office then as even first years can make that. Nothing wrong with middle back office roles. You get less money but more time to spend it 🎉
The only reason I would spend 10 years in banking is to retire on the 10th year. After tax he probably needs to bring a packed lunch to work everyday to pay his bills.
I also say "around six figures" too when pushed by people about what kind of commission I make as an enterprise account executive. They assume around 100k which suits me just fine as it's actually a lot more. His sly smirk shows he's also happy to be put in that category. 10 years as an investment banker he'll be a lot closer to 7 figures than 6…
Anyone who says they “work in investment banking” doesn’t do any banking. If they did, they would say “I’m a banker” or at most “I’m an investment banker” he’s defo operations maybe middle office at a stretch 😂 he works in an investment bank, the same way a PA works in an investment bank
The fact that you've sussed out he works at Stone X and still claim he doesn't work in investment banking it mind boggling after you just do a Google search StoneX Investment Banking
@@allisd00m sure we understand that in the UK but it’s a complete Americanism that has entered the UK only in the last few years because we absorb USA media. Like we say payslip instead of “paycheque”. You might also say I was born on December 15th instead of 15th December, sure all Brit’s will understand it but it’s an Americanism from media.
@@SleepCove definitely not just in last few years. In my experience “make” is quite old school, maybe not just to reference salary but “what you make from a house sale?” Etc. And payslip definitely isn’t an Americanism either. They would use paycheck and we would have used pay packet mostly in the past
@@allisd00m oh sure. What you “make/made from a house sale” is British. Quite southern also. But saying “I make £xxk a year”is very recent, instead of saying “I earn £xxk a year” or “my salary is £xxk”. I said Americans say paycheque not the other way around. “What do you make as a teacher?” - is a pure American saying. Sure, pay packet was more common when people were paid in cash etc agreed.
Who tf is saying 100k in london isn’t good? Sure things are expensive but a £100k salary in London is still pretty good. Are people here in the comment section all millionaires or something?
That comment is laughable!! Whoever said it most likely never worked in their life or receive money from their parents! A huge number of people are earning a salary less than 30k and for that guy to say 100k is not enough 😂😂
100k as an investment banker after 10 years? Thats what people are questioning. Its all relative. 250k a year is amazing but 250k for the ceo of a pretty decent company? Thats pretty bad. With 10 years in investment banking, you'd be making probably 300k, so maybe 200k pounds at the very least?
He said "Around six figures", so I'm guessing he's on around £80,000 per year. After 10 years in investment banking, that's not actually alot of money, but it's still difficult to say he's not doing well for himself.
@@fightsportspace7327yeah, but it’s not a Bank. It’s a market maker/ broker. He probably has a good job, but Investment Banking is totally different, it’s origination, M&A, corporate advisory; ECM & DCM. On the other hand, he could be a sales trader at a bank, and visiting his broker StoneX hence the lanyard. But I doubt he works in IBD.
Not in investment banking and not front office. Probably works in business support in something like operations or HR if he’s been in the industry for 10 years and is not even necessarily on 100k. Prime grade bullshitter
You guys are so lost. Ive worked for Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan and can tell you hes in upper 6 figures. Thats why he said around 6 figures. After 10 years you are close to a mil a year.
People don’t hide what they make not to brag. He’s bragging if he says it’s six figures. He doesn’t want to draw attention to himself or assets for fear of theft, imitation or association. He’s cutting the other off.
