Wassup Wayton! Can we make a vid on what the difference is between a wannabe freestyler(me) and an amazing gc! Like what statistics would make these two different and how would that effect gameplay with a tm8!
I wish you got a more averagely mechanical champ 2. His mechanics were a little too good that the difference between you two didn't look as large as it would usually look between c2 and gc 2.
nah these comments are tripping. If you have 4K hours and ur only c2 you're def doing smth wrong. Definitely expected better mechs w 4k hours - I got 1k rn, sitting at c2-3 w better mechs than this guy. No offense and I'm not trying to flex but 4k hours should be mininum gc2 imo
Same here. Mechs like this are not that common in c1-c2. Game sense regardless, when you see someone pulling ceiling shot mustys you gotta think smurf. This guy is way above average mechanically for c2.
"is a higher ranked player better than a lower ranked player?" yes, no shit. i enjoyed the video out of boredom but still just seemed like a good lil ego boost.
I think Zspeed is not very representative of an average Champ 2 player, the man has 4000 hours, and is quite good mechanically, and this trial is all about mechanics. I'm a Champ 3, I'd say above average mechanically, and I most likely would not beat his time in any category. I think the average top 5%/Champ 2 player would have much better positional awareness than Zspeed but much worse mechanics, therefore I think they wouldn't fair as well as he did in this specific challenge
I was about to say, I am around champ 2 , but I'd say because of good basics and positioning. I only just started practicing airrol aerials (only use it for shooting and recovering) because I feel I am to reliant on my teammate rn which is slowing down my progression in ranked too much. I would do a lot worse on these packs.
@@oukiV don't you have anything better than do than replying to every comment who are praising this guy or are you so hungry for attention that you can't see anybody else get praised
Yeah that would def be better but I had to run through them once to make sure they were fair and reasonable for the video. I offered him to do a run through of each before his actual attempt as well but he decided not to on some.
Zspeed: "This just inspired me to get better." Wayton: "I fucking destroyed him, and my shots had way more style!" Joking obviously, but his comment was extremely wholesome and seemed to fly right over Wayton's head. Zspeed seems like a real solid dude though.
Wayton: "Let's do some random challenges to see who is better" Also Wayton: *Picks everything he excels at* No hate, definitely a gap, but seems a little biased since like you always talk about, mechanics aren't everything. And tbh, this match up was pretty much entirely mechanics based.
There's not too many game-sense or positioning related training challenges you could do though. Also I think he actually makes a good point showing that even he won all the mechanical challenges, the champ definitely wasn't too far behind but Wayton still won the 1v1 pretty handily mostly due to superior positioning.
He was definitely the peak end of a champ 2 judging by his mechanics, I'm champ and if I saw him do a Crossman air dribble flip reset I'd prob call him a smurf.
Really great show case of how despite being mechanically superior, the 1v1 was close as it came down to more of the fundamental skills and less of the flashy skills :)
hey wayton. I recommend to not use a freestyler as your test subject and also do a little less air dribble-tests/challenges because that's your strength. It makes it seem like you are a little better, but I think speed would've done better if you did flip resets, more like power shots and flicks :D. sorry if this sounds mean, im just trying to give some constructive criticism
None of these challanges actually shows the true difference except the 1v1. I am a GC2 and would definitely lose to vspeed in all of these challanges except for the 1v1.
The air game was one thing and you won all of them but you didn't test ground control before hand. It's easy to set up a play of the wall when you can spawn the ball in front of your car with bakkes mod but a totaly different thing when you need the perfect touch and time to set up in game. Dribbles, flicks, catches, power shots and most importantly drifting skills make a huge difference in game. As the 1v1 shows, you can put up a serious fight even if you don't have air superiority.
SUGGESTION: Keep this in mind, but could you possibly do a video on how to play defense? For example: tracking the speed of your opponent, how to react, and knowing when to make space for a teammate that has a better shot at defending the net… love your videos Wayton, keep up the good work :D @Wayton Pilkin Edit: you could even break this up into a series, on how to challenge air dribbles and passing plays!
Watch the other car and react to that, not the ball. Learning defensive strategies for sports like basketball, hockey, soccer, etc helps but a lot of defense is reaction and timing, timing is huge in rocket league because you're playing soccer with a car and they aren't very agile.
Hi Wayton! I like the idea! The thing is that I have the feeling(could be wrong) that there has been a lot of times where u had experience with for example the 1st car control map, or some of the redirect maps. He didn't do them beforehand and you did. I could see that by the progress bar. The rest like the freeplay things are nice and imo a fair comparison! The 1v1 also!
Zspeed must be pretty bad in positioning with mechanics that good to still be in champ 2 lol. Most people in that rank, including myself, are not nearly as consistent at those mechanical shots. Props to him keeping that 1v1 close too.
Can confirm, am champ 2 and cannot do any of those mechanics other than ugly looking aerials and the only redirects that I get are in free play cause teammates usually don’t pass up field
@@samcoy5127 same here lmao , almost hit c3 and honestly i thinks i can t beat the workshop map and the redirect training Pack lmao , even air dribbling from the ground is so diffucult
Also, I know im late to comment, but I can take myself for example, that most people can do such mechanics as Zspeed in freeplay or training packs, and in game rely on positioning, and hitting mechanics pretty rarely, so is Wayton, thats why 1v1 was close, because they at the time werent confident to do mechanics
I wish you had let him learn the workshop map since you were familiar with it. That way we would get a way more realistic comparison. This isn't the first time other players in your videos were doing the map you were familiar with for the first time either.
@@WaytonPilkin why not just do a map that neither of you have done that still demonstrates mechanical ability. Doesn’t have to be anything popular or well known like the maps we see in your videos. Asking people if they’d like to run through the map on their own a few times before recording isn’t really doing due diligence to the experiment, which is what this video is supposed to be. Still an entertaining video. I just wish it were a little more accurate in this way is all.
@@guerrierim15 Yeah I agree with you, even if he gave the buddy time to do a run through of the map or training packs it wouldn't compare to the fact that wayton is significantly more familiar with them. The experiment is inaccurate.
@@guerrierim15 I can't know if a pack demonstrates mechanical ability well unless I try it once myself. I tested about 10 different packs before I selected these 3 to be used in the video. I promise you, if I selected 3 packs at random, this experiment would have been horrible.
@@testing-gn8vj Significantly more familiar? I don't know where you're getting this idea. I ran through each of the training packs once just like he did. I'm not more familiar with them at all.
I'm top 1% and have couple friends who are around the top 5%. But I'm sure any of them are close to speeds mechanics/consistensy. Not to mention the large gap in 1v1 skill (I don't main 1s) The 1v1 often ends in them leaving the match midway due to losing so badly or then me winning by a lot. Not to mention that I do 1v2 against them and still come out on top most of the time. So Speedy is definately above average and not going to lie, but I thought the diffrence between 1% and 5% to be a lot larger.
You should do a vid where a pro goes against an ssl thinking that he’s good enough to go pro. Also you should do like two people coach a low ranked player, a position/game sense player that practices positioning over mechanics, and a mechanical player that is relatively consistent in the air and on ground. Both coach’s are the same rank. It would be cool to see what helps people get better faster
One thing this video doesn't address is the speed at which these mechanics are necessary the higher the rank you go. You often don't have the luxury of these unchallenged setups in a real game. So, while someone may be able to pull off these challenges/training packs etc and look nice doing so... if you put them in a lobby of higher level players that are making insanely fast reads (relative to what they see at their rank), they will just never touch the ball.
this guy is insanely good i bet his mistakes is that he always jumps to stupid balls and throws games for his freestyle montages. he could easily be gc / c3
4,000 hours? I guess its time for me to start playing more regularly, I'm sitting at 156 and I'm hardstuck at platinum. But I want to make SSL before I graduate highschool, playing in college sounds fun lol.
When Zspeed said he hit 4k hours, my jaw dropped. I have 4k hours and am a similar rank to him... I thought I was the only one who was only champ at such high hours.
Most definitely but the thing is I think most Champs 1-3 can do what he’s doing, and tbh I was very surprised to see the comments praising to what seems to me very average mechs
you have literally inspired me to push my skills in this game. I have plateaued super hard in diamond and am now trying to add some new mechanics to my game thanks to your videos. Any chance you could start adding a controller overlay to your videos that shows what buttons you are pressing? I have the worst trouble with trying to barrel roll in the air while also boosting. I don't know how I can hit X and B simultaneously? Do you use the default controller binds?
Well i just changed the binds somewhere in settings though i dont remember exactly where. Should be under the controls section or sometin like that. So ye custom binds pretty sure I do play on ps4 if that changes anything
@@jquikshot they’re custom binds but they’re rather the norm. They’re listed as air roll left/air roll right. Saves you the trouble of holding X and B. Hope that helped!
Typical controller setup is air roll left/right (whichever you're more comfortable with) on the left or right bumper, then regular air roll+handbrake on the other one. This is the most common setup at higher levels but there are a lot people who like different ways of doing things, especially if you're a freestyler. It's all just what's comfortable to you. Air roll/handbrake being on the same button is a game changer for keeping your momentum too
I appreciate it when players know their weakness. I have a mate who'd GC1/2 (i'm C3/GC1) and he's all mechanical but just doesn't know it, nor will admit to it, it's real struggles. I'm maybe 30/70 (mech/pos)
Hey Payton, the vid was super well done and quite helpful for a D3 player like me to watch, but I was thinking that the 2 minute timer for the free play wasn't as informative I guess, than if it was how long you took to get a set limit of pinches, pop ups or cross map dribbles, since it tests consistency the same way, idk if it was just me who thinks like that though 😂 keep it up
I'm C3 and speeds mechanics are way higher than almost everyone I've seen at my level. Like he said, almost all his time is spent in free play, if he grinded ranked for a month he would be much higher than C2
I'm C2 too. I pretty much can't air dribble, I don't have any control whatsover with airrolling more than 90 degrees, and probably wouldn't score more than 1 or 2 points in any of those freeplay challenges. While my mechanics might be below average for my rank, this guy's mechanics are way above.
all this video did was give me hope lmao. i havent played in a while, mainly cuz my console died and im not allowed to get a new one. but i think im a month of solid practice away from being around zspeeds level. alot further from wayton but still. also i feel i could hold some ground against wayton in 1v1s since my best asset is positioning and defense. gonna follow zspeed now.
either i can’t count or wayton got an extra/unseen point THREE ROUNDS IN A ROW: air dribbles pops, pinch consistency, AND cross map air dribbles which should’ve been a tie. kinda rigged in my opinion
For everyone talking about his mechanics not being average he's not amazing? I know plenty of champ 2s including myself like him more than bad players sooo
