Excellent video and I know it’s not new. It’s two years old now but I was not sure if Sean ever made it up bowling ball. I know these are your Videos Dewey and kudos to you because you do a really good job with them.
Yes you do, and when you do, let’s wheel! Also, I might be furloughed soon and I’m thinking of a little wheeling road trip (since our trails are now snow covered)... maybe I’ll head your way!
Love your content. My daughter thought her trailhawk was just a 4WD soccer mom suv. Then I asked her what she thought of her trailhawk after watching your channel. It's not her soccer mom car anymore
The next full trail guide has Sean in it and I think it’s going to be a better one than this video. We’ve also filmed a bunch of others last summer altho it may take me a while to get to editing them. They’ll likely show up as highlight videos in the meantime. We’re trying to get our schedules to match up so we can film Crystal Mill and the others in the area. He’s going to help film on holy cross but that’ll be a stock Jeeps and Broncos video. Thanks for subscribing!
Looking to get something newer than my WJ (which a previous owner neglected beyond the motor which is a fantastic 4.7L with 243k miles). It’s a money sink to fix up just so I can take the family on some adventures like these. Besides not being able to afford a Gladiator, I do not want a Wrangler and this TH is within the price range. Fantastic video and it’s encouraged me further with it. I’m learning the aftermarket is scarce which is saddening and is why I haven’t fully committed to the TH yet. However, I am a busy body who gets creative. Maybe I’d end up a good supplier for aftermarket modifications 😅 Extra $ is great 🎉
I like the Trailhawk a lot, but it’s reliability suffers with mods. Still, if wheeled stock, it could probably still do most of the trails Sean has done (wheeler excluded). This is at the max of it’s capability. I’m definitely a wrangler guy, but I’m eyeing that Jeep Recon as my next off-roader daily driver (keeping the wrangler and liberty tho). Thanks for watching!
Lol, I like subies a lot, but the KL will easily outperform one. Low range 4WD, locking rear, and Jeep’s traction control is nearly unmatched. Sean use to own a Subaru.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I've got a Grand Cherokee with Quadratrack and low range, air suspension etc. and I wouldn't go the places you went in that Cherokee. Hats off sir.
This was great because I am thinking of a new trailhawk cherokee. I was going to get a bronco sport but the one I wanted was considerably more expensive than the cherokee. If you get a chance you could get me the brand of rock rails your friend with the cherokee was using.
I might be doing the same although I’m surprised the bronco sport was more expensive. I’m pretty certain that the Cherokee will remain the most capable crossover produced though. They use rocky Road Outfitters and thanks for watching!
2 years later and I'm back to looking for one of these with a factory tow package. Now looking to replace a 2017 grand cherokee overland. Is that the right move? I pull a small cargo trailer for camping.
I’m not sure it is. What’s wrong with the grand Cherokee? I’m a big fan of the grand Cherokee wk2 however I have yet wheel one. The KL is awesome off road, but less towing than the wk2 and I’m not sure which one is more durable. I kinda think a basic grand Trailhawk would be more durable, but I won’t know till I buy one and do durability testing.
I’d probably get a wk2 without air ride because of the extra 2k of towing over the KL… but I’m likely buying a wk2 soon for towing the camper so I’m biased.
@coloradomallcrawlers I ended up with mine because I thought I was going with a much bigger trailer than I ended up with. But now I have a cargo trailer that i semi converted into a camper. It was 1200 pounds empty. It is now at the max 2000. But since the wk2 makes 25 more hp but weighs like what, 1000 pounds more than the cherokee? So I think a Cherokee will be ok to tow my little trailer.
Thank you! No, in various videos, it has had a 2 in lift and 3 in lift. I thought I put basic specs in the video, but here’s everything he has done! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pBqNbZ5qObA.html
Zach has a 1996 XJ that he’s loving! Sean is still in his KL and building an overland beast! I’m going to be adding a KJ Liberty as a second vehicle and I’ll be leaving it stock at first to see what it needs. We’ll give it hell in all of them! Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers i lived in Gunnison for 15 yrs. Been all over tincup Taylor park. Great area. Stop at almont resort great people good beers. Lived above the bar for 5 of those yrs. In az now come on down this winter lots of cool desert tracks!🇺🇸🎇😈
I don’t understand why the full sized cherokee doesn’t AT LEAST have a solid rear axle. It would make it incredibly more capable. I know this is a small cherokee but still.
I’m with you! I think Jeep could build a solid IFS with solid rear to compete with the bronco and I think that should be the Cherokee. Keep the wrangler solid/solid.
@@coloradomallcrawlers absolutely! Always keep the Wrangler Solid front and rear axles. I would never buy another wrangler if they ever changed that...
I went up and reached the lake while Sean setup camp. I came back down and had beers. I’ll have to re-watch, but I thought I said that. Thanks for watching!
Well, I’ve always told them it’s a Jeep and I use it as one. I personally have never had any issues denied or even questioned with my Jeep. See my reliability review for a full breakdown. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uqs8DrF6Wfs.html
Not lowering your PSI is odd, if this were in Australia you'd be brutalized by local crews. It's considered extremely rude and will enhance the damage you do to the trail. Many of their trails get closed due to abuse of the land so they take it pretty seriously. I personally don't care what you do, I just find it odd.
Let me explain my position. I’ve been off-roading for over 20 years. Lowering your tire pressure use to be only for sand, mud, slick rocks, and when you needed more grip on a trail and I absolutely air down for those conditions. I also work on call 24/7 and film these around my schedule. I have 2 hours once called to get from the trail to work… airing up would put me at risk of being late. Now onto the topic of trail damage, show me a scientific study that proves your point. There isn’t any. From examining video footage, I notice wheeling faster does more damage than staying aired up. I wheel slower when aired up. You also have a wider footprint while aired down on the trail which potentially impacts more of the trail. To simplify, what gives you more grip on obstacles also puts more grip into areas of the trail that don’t warrant it. I’ve also reviewed data from stay the trail and tread lightly, trail saving organizations that I’ve been a member of. Airing down for everything isn’t part of the core principles. I feel some of you use this air down for everything philosophy to justify off-road travel being too harsh for your body and can never provide anything that proves your point. I’m a doctorate level scientist (altho retired from my original career), if someone brings me proof, I’ll change my ways. It’s that simple. Until then, I have my personal data (lots of video footage) and my off-road textbooks. I read a lot of off-road theory books including those from Australians and rarely do I see air down for everything in their books so maybe your pals have watched too many off-road influencers who told you that you needed to air down all the time. I’d recommend picking up some off-road theory books as they’re great!
@@coloradomallcrawlers if your still considering a new Cherokee trailhawk you might want to wait a bit. ever one is saying a new completely overhauled Cherokee is coming in early-mid 2022 as a 2023 model with a new trailhawk along with it, that might be even more beefed up.
Woah!!!! The trail hawk coming up that third obstacle where he rubbed his slider on passenger was intense!!!! I loved the perspectives! You guys are wheeling the absolute snot out of your rigs. Bravo!
I have the 2013 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (bought in 2014 with a deal!) - Take good care of it...but have done lots of snow-mud-and rock...Yes the are very underrated! Don't forget when they were getting boring and Mercedes married Jeep for a hot minuet and put life back into the General Pourpous vehicle! Thanks for sharing these adventures! @@coloradomallcrawlers
This is great stuff! It is the absolute best demonstration of what a Trailhawk can do. I've got a Rubicon and my wife has the KL. I knew they were tough little beasts but honestly, I had no idea they were that capable.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I just found you guys. You do a great job producing fun, interesting and informative videos. Keep it up. We live in Colorado Springs. Maybe we can hook up sometime for some wheeling.
That would be great! Send me a request on Facebook as I don’t know a better way to do it.... if anyone else sees this, send me a message with the request. I’m getting a lot of requests that I think are scammers.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I will in the summer . I am in Japan now and will be for the most part until August. Most of my wheeling time will be lost in 2021 but I'll still have a bit of time.
It must be nice to be able to go offroading like that and not feel like you are going to have an anxiety attack that something will break. Like when i go offroading its scary because i dont have the money to just throw at my truck if something breaks
I absolutely get that… I can’t speak for the Cherokee, but I have wheeled a wrangler for over 20 years. When I was new, I was afraid I’d break it. I started with fire roads, then rockier trails, then even harder trails… I learned Jeeps were tougher than I thought. A well built Jeep or a stock jeep rubicon is built for the toughest trails… if it breaks, it failed and should be covered by warranty (granted you were wheeling appropriately).
You’d love it! It was our test for Holy Cross and Mt Blanca for the Trailhawks, but I think we won’t push that and it’ll be me solo for those. Thanks for watching!
I own a Cherokee Trailhawk. It really takes "Balls of steel" to do this trail. Personally, I don't have the experience to do that :D Always nice to see a car identical to mine exploited to its limits. Thanks for this video and Hello from Quebec !
Ok that was insane with that Cherokee. I was so nervous for him. Probably because I have a Cherokee TH identical to that one. The front brake actuated limited slip works pretty dang good. I don’t think I’d have to balls to take mine on something like this. I noticed some fox shocks in the back. What all has been done to it??
I’ll release his walkaround today which will answer your questions... was going to do it this AM, but I worked overnight and didn’t get a chance to make a few tweaks. I’ll publish it after a nap.
That’s so kind and I can’t wait to run one with you in the future! If anyone sees these comments, definitely check out Outlaw 923’s channel as it’s a great one covering Colorado trails!
Just on my way out to buy a Cherokee Trailhawk and it will be my first Jeep.. Cannot beleive how well it did on the trail! Makes me feel even more convinced that it is the right vehicle for me and the family to go exploring British columbia in.. Amazing Vid by the way pleause keep them coming
Nice video. I owned a 2015 KL Trailhawk in green and drove it from MN to FL, out west, to Yellowknife, to AK, and back to MN. Not a bad trail rig with the 3.2L but in the WI mud it was not good. Traded that on a '17 MP Compass Latitude 4x4 6spd manual. Retrofitted Trailhawk skids on it. Gearing was no good for trails. Finally found my dream rig, which I still own and daily drive...have taken to to WY twice. 2018 JKRR 6spd. Stock suspension. Damn thing is a goat and easy to get through narrow WI trails. Not fun with 30+ MPH crosswinds on the interstate.
I've had the Cherokee Chief, Cherokee XJ , a lot of Grand Cherokees but never a Cherokee KL , jeep brother you got me looking at the KL seriously . ✌️🦆
@@coloradomallcrawlers the compass is ok , but No KL .it's a mistake stopping production compass is not as capable as the KL . WK 2 and KL can keep up with the wrangler and still have a smooth ride and comfortable. I've always loved Cherokees since 1974 when chief come out they are my favorite jeeps
I just ordered the true 2" rear lift for mine. So it will be 4" total lift, got my rcv axels and 35's going on. I have the 3.2 v6 so this is going to be a nasty little girl
Inside windshield cleaning is difficult. You can find various videos and techniques on it but the best seems to be to use something like rubbing alcohol first to thoroughly degrease then move to the cleaners using microfiber towels. Interesting to see what the Cherokee will do but should just buy a Wrangler. I considered a Cherokee and Grand Cherokee but I didn't want to compromise so spent a little more and bought a Wrangler.
Appreciate the cleaning tips! I’m a wrangler person, but I absolutely see why a person would buy a Cherokee over a Wrangler. For Sean, the Cherokee is what he wanted and it has performed well. It’s a much more enjoyable ride for him. Thanks for watching!
Rocky Road for the sliders. He has a 3in lift, but doesn’t recommend his lift. We’re going to make a video explaining his experiences and recommendations soon. I’d probably stick with 2in or stock… the KL is incredibly capable from the factory.
Jeep Cherokee 3.2 is very downgrade is car..i know its not reliable as Toyota..but its better than rav 4, and kia Sportage, Tucson... And unfortunately now jeep killed the line..😢😢. I hope to see this car come back with upgrades
Thank you! We try, it’s tricky as even if the whole trail is awesome, rarely is whole trail footage awesome… but learning new ways to cover it all. Thanks for being here and watching!
You mentioned that in your opinion a stock Cherokee Trailhawk could do most of the trails here in CO. I am considering a 1-inch lift for my 2021 model to get me 9.7" of clearance. My fear is that if I go too high it will take away from the AWESOME driving experience on paved roads. At the same time I would like a bit more height to be able to tackle tougher trails/spots should I encounter them. Thoughts?
Well, I think the driver matters more than the vehicle but I’m getting a non-wrangler to test that theory. I would not take a stock Trailhawk on Wheeler Lake tho, but I’d say the majority of trails rated as blue in funtreks, absolutely. I would even take it on difficult rated trails like Saints John, however more challenging difficult trails, I’d maybe skip. 8.7in isn’t bad, plus you have skid plates. Sometimes a little scraping on skid plates is better than the stress of increased angles from a lift. Ultimately this will be your decision, but if I had a trailhawk, I’d leave it stock (to maintain warranty) and then see how far I could get it. I think the hardest I would attempt with it would be red cone. Id definitely have upgraded skids (if beneficial), beefy rock rails, and probably a better tire than the stock ones. Hope that helps… I’m a bit exhausted so if it doesn’t make sense, let me know and I’ll revisit it once I have some decent sleep.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Hey thanks for the response man! Hope you have had a chance to catch up on your zzz's:) I appreciate your thoughts very much. We took my jeep over Tin Cup Pass this past weekend (skipped the level 6 rated spur) without any trouble. Just touched a couple times but it wasn't any big deal. That route is rated a 4 or 5 depending on who you talk to I guess, if you bag the spur. Could I have made the spur with my setup do you think? Sounds like it. I am not familiar with funtreks, but used "TrailsOffRoad" and onXoffroad. What does upgraded skids mean exactly? Just additional coverage underneath for exposed parts? Lastly, when you say upgraded tires does that mean bigger as well? Probably not if I don't get a lift. Looks like Red Cone is rated a 7, cool.
Really appreciate that! Making them a resource was always the first goal, and now I’m working on making them more entertaining as well. Thanks for watching!
I've been very impressed with my Wife's Trailhawk. We've mainly only done very light trails but the only time she's been stuck is on the dirt road we live in in Alaska during breakup. She wasn't the only one.
Hey amazing video. Thanks for shouting me and my group out, and tagging myself in the images at the end. I really appreciate it man. Keep up the sick work!! -blake
I used to own a JK Rubicon and I came across this video trying to find a middle-ground vehicle for my wife and myself. Wow this Cherokee Trailhawk looks like the ticket! You can't beat real life results like these.
Absolutely! It’s an incredibly capable vehicle. The only issue we’ve encountered is it may not be as durable as your wrangler was. Still, I think it’s a great vehicle!
Just joined your page. Don't have a Cherokee trailhawk, however, got a 2004 Touareg and would love to meet up and do a winter ride with u one of these days
Awesome ride! I’m currently just announcing trail days via my Facebook. Your welcome to friend request me and join… if I don’t respond, send me a message.
@@t-rexlanding7321 alright, unfortunately due to my schedule (I’m on call 24/7), this has been the best method. I announced yankee hill, probably 30 hours prior to filming and had to start turning people away as the group got too big. We will continually try to come up with better methods tho.
@@coloradomallcrawlers so great, I'm up in Washington state but by winter hopefully will have my boy working properly. He's been a little brat lately, 😂😂 I'll just send a message and see if your going to be out and make according plans to be in the neighborhood
I have a 2019 trailhawk and have done the 2inch budget lift so far. I have heard there are complication when adding the dobinsons (on top of that) to the new models. Is there any merit to that? What is your experience so far with the full 3inch lift? Thank you.
Well when I did my 3 inch I took the previous one off. It was a pain in the ass to put on it. With the lift so far I haven't had any issues other than alignment but that remains to be seen down the road. I do have torn rear cv boots ( and have had another jeep owner tell me my fox shocks were the cause because if them forcing the travel ) but I think that it's as much about what I've done with it trail wise that's caused it moreso.
Yeah, we don’t want people to think you need expensive builds on top of expensive vehicles to see these beautiful places. My wrangler will remain stock but with more lights, the liberty will be built in a budget friendly way as I’m not rich… and they’ll both be used.
@@coloradomallcrawlers me too I wanna get out on the trails just sucks with all the snow and being so stock and no recovery points other wise I’d be so down to snow bash lol.
Looking forward to this video! We did wheeler in a highly modified wj and a slightly modified jl Rubicon. The couple obstacles are tough! Great scenery too.
I would’ve turned around lol. That had to be on the edge of breaking something. I thought you would hit a body panel. I’d say sliders was a great investment.
I appreciate it, I really do! I’m trying my best and they take a lot of time especially when you don’t know what you’re doing editing, but I’m getting quicker. Thank you for the support!
Me too and that’s why I love having them on the trail with me! We constantly try to get interesting vehicles in the guides, but the biggest hinderance to that is my chaotic schedule. However, pretty much every vehicle in these videos asks to be in more so I’m thankful for that… once my schedule gets better, should be able to get more in these! Thanks for watching!
It’s so impressive! The only concern I have the KL is it’s possible poor reliability. Both Sean and Zach have had issues not related to off-roading... it’s frustrating to watch them deal with it. However, I’m thinking of doing an off-road lease of a KL Trailhawk to document the experience. I’ll keep it stock, but I’ll definitely push it.
I know, I’m strongly considering it! I might a make a video on OHV auto shopping as I’m really all over the place. The KL would be sweet, but the gladiator could be fun, and I’ve only owned 2 door wranglers so I wonder if I should just get a JL.
Thanks for doing the stock perspective. I suspect a lot of the viewers are like myself and have stock vehicles and wanting to preview the trail before heading out. With that said, it would be interesting to see the difference that sway bar disconnect and lockers have (i.e. Rubicon vs High Sierra).
Of course! I mostly wheel the rubicon without using lockers. I’ll disconnect the sway bar usually, but that’s something all Jeeps should be able to do (just the rubicon allows you to do it from inside the cab).
Great vid and commentary yo! This video helps much knowing what to expect. My friends and I are going here this coming Sunday. Both of us have Jeep Rubicons. One Jeep is a 2 door on 37" tires and the other Jeep is 4 door on 35" tires. Both Jeeps are lifted 3.5". About how long does it take to get up to the lake? Thank you! Cheers from Denver Colorado.
Thank you! I don’t actually remember as we were filming, but I should have put what FunTreks and trails off-road says it takes on the info screen. I usually take 30 minutes to an hour more due to stopping and filming. Without filming, I can usually make it at the lower end of their estimates. Hope we can see each other on the trail sometime! Have a good time!
Good vid. Reminds me if when I took my commuter out ('14 CX5). It handled everything I wanted it to handle, but the unexpected lurking over obstacles had me noid. Fun though, but I'm sticking with the XJ for dirt from now on.
Awesome video dont think I'll take my renegade there anytime soon, however I am close to having it a little more offroad ready just need the tires and skids. If you need a renegade to go with to help out with the videos I'd love to. Don't have a group yet here CO but am looking for one.
Yeah, I’d love to have more renegades in videos, especially since Davon is switching to the Bronco. He tried to do wheeler in his blue renegade and couldn’t get over obstacle 2 (would have included that video here, but it was so degraded and he lost the originals). It did get through the first two obstacles which I think is impressive tho! I’m still not sure how to organize rides, but find me on Facebook and hopefully I’ll have a better plan for next summer! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to share these with the majority of jeep pages especially the Colorado ones as it’s taken as self promotion. I do wish more people saw them though as the drivers do such a great job in these videos! However, if anyone sees this and likes it, feel free to share it with your groups. My buddy in the blue renegade shares the renegade ones for me and that’s why they get a ton of views. Thank you for watching though!
Does Sean have a channel? I'm curious if/what parts he's had to replace and how often. This is an awesome KL. But I put a 2" MFC lift on mine and know they don't tolerate the geometry change well at all. Mine is new, but curious how long before I could expect to be changing some U-Joints, etc. I'll be living in Keystone over the summer, hope to check out tons of CO! Great vids!
I’ve been trying to get Sean to make a channel so he can see what goes into it, but not yet. I’ve been wanting to make that video, but I need to convince Sean. Anyway, I’ll show him your comment… he’s pretty good at responding but he can also be reached on his Instagram @thetrailhawkoverlander
