Who the hell writes off all their gear in a year 😭
@ianchoo
@ianchoo Год назад
the amount that was calculated was only just for the setup. You should have actual earnings and other bills to pay while shooting. Lets say as in video, we need to take $100 just for the gear each shoot. As I said we have other bills to pay, lets raise the price to $150 per shoot. And the other bills that you have to pay, lets say about $30. Then you have $20 of actual earning. But as you said were not gonna throw away our camera after a year, so the actual earning will be way higher. In a sentence, Its a bonus next year.

I remember doing a wedding a few years back. After everything, I was talking to the groom. He was saying some of the guests were annoyed "the photographer was in every one of my pictures" He had to remind them that he was PAYING me and my photos were priority. Some people don't see the value in certain things.

Important to pay attention to your competition these days, too... although you're not looking to undercut, with the whole "everyone's a photographer" movement, there's going to be a lot of people trying to undercut YOU.

I've been dog walking for almost 15 years. It's also an overstated market. Tons of people undercut... Within a year most of those people become my clients and understand why I charge what I do. Charge what you're worth. Don't worry about the scumbags.

If you don’t have a full frame and red rings or g masters and you r been shooting for under five years don’t charge more than 50 American an hour and sessions don’t go over 1k it’s all still practice and you can’t deliver higher quality once you get a full frame and at least 25ish mp and a better lens then you can start around 80-120 imo for protraits or start charging set prices which are a lot more profitable then you can start tagging along as the seccondary photographer at events or start doing modeling shoots or car shows or sports just accrue as much experience as possible and once you get past this point you get to the 3-5k for events and 500-1k normally for a shoot I personally am a portrait photographer and although I have an r5 and two red rings and my nifty fifty I only charge two thousand for a full day of shooting for weddings but I do minimal editing since I don’t believe in altering images too much I do touch ups and yes if they want a certain editing style for certain photos or photo segments I’ll comply but I won’t do all of them if the style is too artificial I understand my own beliefs about photography devalue my work in the current market but I am ok with that anyways it also depends on where you are in cities you can get weddings for 8-10k with video included or sometimes even just photos know your market my reccomended prices are just bare minimums and assuming you’re still learning

@CapnViktor

All of this before you take into account what the clients intended use for the photo is. The worth of a photo is determined from the potential reach and you could charge differently depending if it’s only gonna be used on a Facebook profile picture or on a time square bill board advertisement. But I saw on another of your videos that you already know this. 😅

I have problems with this kind of answers when I ask about how much should I charge. Everybody say "Oh you have to consider your time and your gear and your experience :)" but I'm like... HOW do I put price on time? How MUCH should I charge for an hour? How much should I charge for my expertese?

If you’re just getting started and don’t have much experience just tell your customer you’ll take a donation (DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR CLIENT IS A BUSINESS - THIS IS ONLY IF YOU’RE SHOOTING COUPLES OR KIDS). Do as much work as you think that donation requires but be sure you’re aiming to wow your customer. After doing this a few times you’ll get a good idea how much effort can go into planning, equipment, and post processing to be able to price your services accordingly.
@jordiw913
@jordiw913 Год назад
Under three years 50 imo you’re really not going to be a master yet after that 150-200 is reasonable 120 is a good cheap price don’t go below it and past that you can start doing events and look at the market their work and price based off of where your work stands relative to theirs that’s what I do anyways ID love to charge that I think I’m worth and I do but it just happens to be that my competition agrees with our general worth
@Andy-cf1bs
@Andy-cf1bs Год назад
What’s your worth? How much do you want to make in a year? Start there and then back into the calculations. If you need 120k to live, that’s 10k a month or 2500 a week, 4 shoots a week would be 625 each. There’s a starting point, every one is different and they value currency and their self worth differently.

I don't think that you should include your gear and software into the price. I mean ... If you can do a job with a 1000 $ camera and a 500 $ lens, why would you charge your client the fact that you bought a 5000 $ camera and a 2000 $ lens for no other reason than GAS :)? This equals to the full-blown creative guy, who shoots super stylish and unique photos with his 20$ film-camera. Should he charge less?
@fillerbunnyninjashark271
@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Год назад
That 20 dollar film camera isn't going to get you the quality of photos that 1500 dollar camera will... Realistically the camera and lens will cost significantly more for professional quality...

Save up around 1000 and look for a DSLR kit. You should be able to get a body, one - two lenses, bag for the camera. That's extremely cheap for an okay camera. You wouldn't be able to do large format printing with it but it's a start.
@toasty8547
@toasty8547 Год назад
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 I disagree totally. 1000 can be alot for someone and cheaper kit can still take good photos. You just need 1 body and a fast ish lens depending on type
