I was more negative about the Tone Master, from watching a few videos, but this one video has me liking it a lot more. It is far from limited for my taste in worship. Great video.

In your first preset you're using the '65 Deluxe Reverb combo, which has built-in convolution reverb. If you would've used the "amp only" option you would've had a lot more DSP left over for more blocks. Leon Todd built a 20 block preset that uses 3 amps. Pretty amazing!
@glenncohen4023
@glenncohen4023 Месяц назад
A LOT more. The convolution algos are DSP hogs! They likely take up more DSP than 2 amps. If you are going to use the convolution blocks you should be damn sure you are hearing them and they are central to the preset (ie you are in a surf rock, rockabilly, or reggae band that requires authentic springs).
@glenncohen4023

My real complaint about the TMP are: 1. The foot switch programming only allows on/off toggling. This means that if you have more than one “switch link” that toggle a block things will get mixed up as soon as you select either consecutively! This is a big issue that they need to fix, on off should be without regard to the current status of the block, IE the foot switch program should be EITHER on or off and NOT a toggle. The other issue is that I have not found a way to send a non cab model signal to the “independent” second output. I have seen people use either fx loop 3 or 4 for this, but that should not be (what if you want to use an ox stomp for your stereo cab modeling using 3+4?!!?
@fevzay9315
@fevzay9315 10 месяцев назад
Both presets have amps with the convolution reverb. Removing those would result in a ton more available DSP for additional blocks. Would recommend the 'amp only' for the Fender amps if you're using other kinds like Celestial, Hall, etc.

Thanks for the video, everything sounded good. It's important to remember that using a Fender amp model with amp Reverb counts as a convolution reverb (the highest use of dsp). It's possible to use amp only version (with a following matching cab) and save dsp. If you're using multiple reverbs after the amp anyway, you'll have to weigh up the pros and cons of also having the amp reverb in the same patch The particular Fender amp tremolo you are using in the 2 amp patch also counts similar dsp as a convolution type effect because of it's accuracy and how it's modelled. The seamless switching also means it's not necessary to load everything into a single patch. You could have a similar preset with different configurations on each knob instead of just switching everything on/off in one preset. You're not as limited as you think you are ;)

Your demo convinced me to switch to Fender TMP. You don't use sophisticated scales perfectly mixed in somptuous backing tracks, just play some chords and simple licks, so we can easily hear the grain of each amp and pedal... After having played for years on many modelers/profilers (Kemper, Helix, Atomic Amplifire, Boss GT 1000), I recently bought the Quad Cortex to replace my Boss (wich I keep until I feel the QC will be ready for stage). QC is a HUGE unit, but not that adapted to stage use, due to some details I don't want to expose here, except one : the gap between presets on the QC obliged you to use scene mode to avoid it. It works, but isn't so clear on stage, and limits you in rapid research of a new preset. For my use, the TMP is much more adapted. For songs with many different sounds, you can get up to 6 presets choice with NO GAP, and for songs with only clean/crunch/lead variations, you can stay on one preset and use pedal mode (FS mode). I'm also convinced by the global sound, which IMO is a little bit more brilliant and organic than other modelers... And what about the gorgeous user interface, AND the IEC soooo professional power plug ! Only one frustration : like many, I'd like a lot more amp models, probably available in future firmware updates... Thank you soooo much for this demo ! Greetings from France 🤝

I do think the seamless switching and treating each preset as a scene makes a lot of sense. (Which is how I would use it live.) But it would be good for them to add a mode without the seamless preset switching. When you’re recording or if you just like having one master preset, then you ought to be able to forego seamless to access all the power of the unit.

I have a 64 handwired Deluxe reissue. By far the best Fender amp I have owned. Coming in a close second was my 2nd ever amp, a vibrolux (78-80?). The amp in the TMP that comes closest , is DLX reverb 'combo' which you have loaded. For some reason, to me the head only DLX sounds less real.Lastly, if you're missing that 'one' pedal (chorus) or whatever...just insert a real one.

I think this has disadvantages compared to other modelers, but I love how straight forward it seems and how visual it is with setting things up. For someone who doesn't want to spend time in tons of menus like me, this seems better for my tastes. I'm also surprised how good the unit sounds.

One thing, that I love from dual amps, with hard panning stereo setup to left and right, and also put wet effects before the amps, while pushing them with drive pedal is achieving that soaring, sizzling cabinet vibration that's a hallmark of dual amps setup (I hope you know what I mean! 😄), Unfortunately, I couldn't hear that distinctive 'sound' from the stereo amp in the TMP preset. So, I'll stick with my Helix.

Providing Fender releases regular and useful updates for the TMP, and actually wants to grow the platform - it would make more sense as a purchase in 2023 than a Helix for the exact reason people don't buy 8 year old computers when they can get a new one with more horse power. Whether Fender does this of course remains to be seen, and it is a fools gamble to buy on "what could be" ... time will tell. The next update or two should offer some insights.

You are forgetting the 4 effect loops. I use an Eventide H90 in the Pro effects loop. The H90 is a powerful unit itself. Fender's approach is to give you ample opportunity inside the unit and externally too. An Axe buddy of mine also uses external Eventide effects because the Axe itself can't do it. However, external effects are not perfect. Two issues can arise, noise and latency. What if you could turn off the seamless switching in favour of doubling the number of effects. Would that make you happy. At any rate, like you said, the number of Pro effects that can be used internally is more than enough for most people. Some people say, on an Axe unit, you can do stuff that can't happen in the real world. I don't think Fender is going to try and chase after a niche market like that. Plug and play. Most musicians want to spend most of their time and energy playing, not programming. I understand some people are OCD and need to control esoteric parameters. If a musician comes over to jam and is still tweaking an hour into the jam, he ain't coming back. A unit like the Pro saves your precious time by getting you up and running in a few minutes, no manual needed. Based on my updating experience with Boss's flagship GT-1000, Fender's flagship will be given high priority for some time as 8 core processors is a way of future-proofing a unit. Boss had massive updates. Fender's upcoming update is Xmas. Fender was smart to get the units out there before Xmas. Gives me time to absorb the intricacies of the Pro before another cognitive download.

@worshiptutorials
@worshiptutorials 10 месяцев назад
I think this is what they'd consider their 'Stage' version. You can buy an expression pedal for pretty cheap and plug it in. I personally like doing it that way (separate expression pedal). Its interesting you say that about the tone, because one of the main things I've read people saying about Tone Master Pro is that it sound fizzy and digital. I don't think that it does. I also don't think Helix sounds like that, either. With all of these digital units, you have to treat them like you would a real amplifier. If you put a dynamic mic like the SM57 or SM7 right on the cone of a real mic'd amp, everything with sound super harsh and fizzy. Same thing holds true in the modeling world. If you choose a different mic (or mic combo), work the mic placement, and then EQ it, that harsh stuff goes away.

I'm really interested in this rig with the cab and was wondering if you would recommend it for home use (practice) and Praise and Worship? Do you think you can get the majority of sounds you would want out of it or would I be better off investing in something else? I currently run a Fender Blues Jr with a custom pedal board but looking to get into modeling... thanks!

All the fender amps have convolution reverb (which you didn’t even use) and that was taking up your DSP in the dual amp preset, both presets actually. It’s a 500,000 sample IR - to put that in perspective a Fractal Dynacab IR is 2048 samples. So close to 250 times more processing…in the tone master amps it takes an entire core of processing which it likely does here too. Redo your preset with the deluxe amp head and cab and I think you’ll find the statements you made aren’t true…

It was the Deluxe Combo eating up all the DSP in your dual amp preset. The combo has convolution reverb baked in, which is a dsp hog. if you switch it to the "amp only" version, you would see way more more blocks available..

Also, I can't be the only one who's waiting for a modeler where you can add an amp and it includes all the channels for it. Having them individually is still nice, but to be able to put an amp in a block and have Channel 1, Channel 2, etc would be incredibly useful. One day I suppose. But I've not ever seen anyone else make this comment, but surely I'm not the only one...?
