Bonjour, Passionnant ! Un grand plaisir .Je ne connaissais pas Baptiste Herbin …Un grand talent, bien que je ne sois pas un grand fan des avalanches de notes !..Par contre quand il joue plus soft et boisé…le son est magnifique. Un grand merci pour ce moment de plaisir.

Merveilleux, tous les deux ! Je n'ai pas vu les 70 minutes passer, tant c'était passionnant, fort intéressant et instructif. Et je fus tellement ravi d'entendre parler de Julien Lourau, que j'ai tellement écouté (Groove Gang puis après), je n'aurais jamais imaginé qu'il fut le prof de Baptiste ! Quel phénomène, Baptiste Herbin, et quelle gentillesse, humilité et bienveillance ! Chapeau bas. Merci Jay pour cet entretien dans la langue de Molière, un régal, keep it on ! :D

Man that Bird blues is absolutely whack. Baptiste is totally fluid in all 12 keys, absolutely no fumbling in B major and he plays F# major just as comfortably as C major. I'd say in terms of technical ability and musical prowess, he's on par with Chris Potter. Wow

I remember when in 2001 I was studying Architecture in Paris. I had brought my alto with me and I was attending a few jam sessions in town. One night I was at this place in the Marais, Les Sept Lezars and I see this young kid, dressed like a skate boarder, that was playing like a champ, flying on his alto. I complimented him and told him he was the best musician in the room that night. His name was Baptiste, he was probably 16 and at 10.30p.m. he had to leave because he had school the day after. That night I kept my alto in the case, there was no way I was playing a note afte he played!!!!.I am glad he has kept up with music and cultivated his talent to become the incredible musician he is today.

For whatever it might be worth... I've had periods where I consistently played my guitar 5 or 6 hours a day and it doesn't take too long before you just instinctually play things that shock you; you can't believe what you just heard because 1) it sounds above what you "normally" sound like and 2) you just did it with little or no conscious thought. It just flows out of you. If you get into a groove ( no pun) of putting in enough time, this sort of thing happens fairly regularly.

I hate subtitles, but loved this interview. :) I am always impressed with cats who can keep a string of notes going forever. I can play a lot of rippin' notes, but my ideas fade pretty quickly, so it's more like bursts of notes. As for time of play, I used to play 16 hours a day when I was in the Air Force Band, but I probably wasn't practicing smart. At 75 I am down to only 1-1.5 hours, but have a goal to get back up to about 5 a day. For anyone who thinks they can do 30 minutes every other day and get better, I'd tell them to watch this interview every day until they get it. Practice Does Work. :)

Quand tu avais demandé "quel est votre saxophoniste vivant préféré ?", je t'avais répondu :Baptiste Herbin, je ne savais pas si tu le connaissais, et j'étais à 1000 lieues d'imaginer que tu parlais parfaitement le français, et que ru habitais à Paris... Hard to find a sax teacher here so your courses have been a great help. Votre français est excellent. Vous avez réussi à supprimer l'accent new-yorkais bien mieux que moi.

Et les decouais, londeix … merci baptiste, le sourir ne m’a pas laché de la video. Un peu comme Brecker repris le preche de Coltrane pour le sublimer, Baptiste est pour moi le premier digne de Charly Parker, sans pour autant denigrer ceux qui ont pavé le chemin entre temps. Le meilleur sax alto bop de tous les temps est en vie messieurs-dames, et il est francais!!

He was playing on the soon to be released BetterSax Session alto, his Selmer Supreme, my Yanagisawa WO33 and his Vandoren V16 or the BetterSax Burnin' 5 mouthpieces.
