How much does it cost to build a skateboard half pipe? We are building a half pipe 4 feet high and 27 feet long. We spent $689.32 on the materials to build a halfpipe. That's how much it costs for the materials to build a half pipe ramp for skateboards or BMX bikes. Now we have to put it all together into a skateboard ramp.

expensive yes. But how much without the fancy masonite and betweener layer? just the plywood and 2x4 wood?

You'd have to figure that out. You have to increase the plywood cost because the thin plywood won't hold up under abuse, so you'd need to go thicker.

Rick Cline It went together really well. The hardest part is the bottom flat portion because you have to cut so many short pieces and screw them into place. Not really difficult, but time consuming. The kids did a great job and learned a lot.

Is this for inside? If outside how did the masonite hold up?

It lasted a few years, and we patched it when it got bad. For the first year we covered it with a giant tarp. There was some rain, but we live in Southern California so we don’t get much rain here. Imagine if you live somewhere that has lots of rain, you’d want to get something else. There is something called skatelite that is very expensive, but I think it’s waterproof so it can handle the rain.

The sheets are 4 feet by 8 feet. The ones on the surface of the ramp are 3/8 inch, and the ones on the sides of the ramp are 3/4 inch.

Yes. It is 8 feet wide. I guess you could just double the cost and build two of them and bolt them together to get a 16 foot wide ramp.

It doesn’t have to be near as expensive because you don’t need that much material. Sure if you want a halfpipe that you can ummm idk what differently you could do lol. My point is use other things such as dirt lmao 😂 why use alllll those rails when dirt is free ..so make your ends and obviously connect them with some 2-4s in specific places . Then fill that mf with dirt then screw down the plywood also in a very specific way lol you save tons this way . I know your thinking but you need all those boards for the plywood to be screwed to and it might be easy to bust threw. Well to that I will say you just have forgot it’s full of dirt lol there is enough support

Yeah! I thought about doing that too, but I didn't know how to haul it. I guess you could rent a U-Haul truck. My ramp will probably end up on craigslist 5 years from now.

TheTaylor559 Lumber prices go up and down seasonally, but it is a lot of money when you add up all the parts. If you check craigslist, sometimes you can find people giving old ramps away to get them out of their yards. You'd just need to rent a U-Haul truck and go over there with some tools to break it down into smaller pieces. Truck rental is pretty cheap, so you could probably do it for under $100.

Nicky Steingraber The only way to do it that cheap would be to find one on craigslist that someone is giving away. This does happen, and I saw a few on there for free before we built ours, but we didn't have a truck big enough to haul it. If you could find a free or really cheap one, you could rent a U-haul truck for $50 and haul it to your house. You would probably have to take it apart into pieces and put it back together, but it could be done.
