Today we look at the 2011 Range Rover Supercharged. This video would give some ideal information on the 2010-2012 Range Rover. Part of the L322 3rd generation Range Rover. This is part two of the 3 part video series. Part one we look at things to look for or a buyers guide on a used Range Rover. We will have a 3rd video that will be our full review.

The Range Rover L322 was produced from 2001-2012. What year can you tell a story about?

2002 TDV6(so one of the first!) The 3.0L BMW-powered model which everyone tells you to avoid! Paid 13000 Euros in 2010 and another 15000 spread over 21 years since then, mainly recon gearbox, new turbo, new front suspension struts (airbags), fuel pump handbrake assembly, discs all round, and other bits & bobs. Sounds bad when you think of it in those terms but remember that’s spread over 11 years so average 1360 per year really isn’t that bad for this car., and the big jobs have now tailed off considerably. Now it’s probably the best example around from 2002! People say this model is underpowered, I can’t deny an extra 600cc would be nice but it’s never been an issue, I’m not a speed merchant and if cruises the autobahn s comfortably at 140km/h which is over the speed limit anyway. A tad noisier than later models but again no biggie, and my all season tyres probably don’t help. If I was buying now I’d go for the 3.6 or 4.4 but I’ll stick with this now, I’ve invested in it and it is now in excellent order.

i like how you talking about the air suspension, as the L322 raises up in the background, beautiful.

Here in the UK range rovers can be bought for very little money. Problem is the people who buy them forget how much it cost to look after them. Sound advice oil 5k airbags always do all four and always use premium quality tyres.. preventive maintenance is much cheaper than a repair. The reputation for unreliablility is usually caused by penny pinching owners.

Looks good for a nearly 10 year old vehicle. Look forward to the 3rd vehicle in the series. You guys are the perfect ones to have this kind of vehicle. You know how and what to do to keep it running. Thanks for educating us what is needed to successfully own this vehicle. For the faint of heart like me, I better stick to my Camry. 😀 Hey even on my car I change the oil every 6-7K not the 10k Toyota says.

One thing to do (if you can) have a second vehicle. My Range Rover is actually my second vehicle. I drive it 2 to 4 times a week and I love it. I did change the water pump, it cost me $800 dollars. I change my oil regularly and I have no problems out of it. I try to do things that prevent big problems from happening. As the old saying goes. Take care of your vehicle and your vehicle will take care of you.

When you say things that avoid problems, do you mean oil changes?
@darrelltuttle8298
@darrelltuttle8298 Год назад
@@KTBTVHD No, I'm a preventive maintenance kind of guy. I replace things before they need to be replaced or perform services before they need to be performed. For example. Although , I didn't need to replace my brakes I did so. I had cross drilled and slotted rotors and new pads installed on the front and, cross drilled rotors with new pads installed on the rear.

Wait, if you recommend changing the oil every 5-7.5k miles with something like Mobil 1, why is it so important to have it done at a dealer, Land Rover/Jag/etc specialist? I mean, changing the oil is changing the oil, no?
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels 3 года назад
I would usually totally agree. I would totally do it myself, however I am going to sit and stare at its bits for 20 minutes and hopefully catch something before it becomes an issue. My experience is going to a quick oil change places the employees seem to be young and can lack attention to detail.

I’m looking at 2 2011 Range Rovers…one has had the timing chain repair and the other one recently had the transmission replaced at the dealer. Which one should I choose in terms of cost?

Zf transmission definitely good better as they have gotten newer. The zf 6 speed was a decent trans. Really just need to service it. Zf 8 on newer models is super good. I would pick the more common fault of a well documented, properly done timing chain repair.

Very true very true… As someone who drives older BMWs 01 7series, I understand this. I always see physical clean higher mileage LR322s (I’m aiming for a 2010-2011)… BUT like you say these issues need to be addressed. Ok learned one thing from your video. The timing chain. Seems like a hit or miss on LR322s…. Might need might not, how can you tell, other than waking up one day and experiencing the outcome? (Had one go on an older BMW… literally driving and went)

With a GDI change your oil every 1000 miles. The soot cannot be filtered, it has to be removed. DIY Oil changes are $18. No need to change the filter until 15K miles if you keep the oil clean. THE best thing you can do with a GDI is add an Amsoil or Franz toilet paper filter. Then you'll have cleaner-than-new-in-the-bottle oil at all times, even with up to 100K mile oil changes.

@@PerformanceOnWheels I’m looking to buy a L322 10-12 Super Charged in the near future. From my research, I’ve read that late 2012 builds fixed the timing chain issue. Is that a true statement? Is the 08-09 SC with the Jag motor more reliable but with less horsepower, tech & minus the facelift?
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels 2 года назад
I have read the same about later '12 model years. But have also read there is still and issue. 🤷. Previous era. All true statements. However it's also older so everything has that much more wear simply from age.
