I've been married to my Thai wife for 22 years. Never have any members of her family asked to borrow money. Sin sod was never even mentioned. I'm lucky, and like you guys we help our family when they need it.
Show money! haha! 300,000 baht for my wife, but the majority was handed back. My wife's very close Thai family helped pad out the show money bowl from 200,000 to 300,000 baht.(Shush! it's a secret) Still had to buy a present for the in-laws though haha! A large bowl of show money massively increases the family's respect/standing in their village. That's really what the show money is all about these days. My wife is from Kalasin too. A few of my wife's friends and relatives did try it on for money after our traditional Thai wedding, (followed a week later by an official Thai Registry Office wedding) but my new in-laws were quite happy with the gifts and Show money they'd received. We don't get bothered anymore by such requests. All part of the deal when you marry a Thai woman. They are the best in the world in my opinion and well worth the effort. Cheers and Beers!
My current thai gf and I agreed to get married until sin sod was brought up. I agreed to pay but on 2 conditions. Her family would never receive any financial help after the wedding and when we returned to the UK my family want a traditional English wedding. And I would need to arrange with her dad on the costs for this. Wedding talks have halted.
Not all Thais are alike, not all Farangs are alike, not all men or women are alike. Just asking - is Somtum from a middle class, upper middle class (educated), or lower class (poor or from Issan) family ? My guess is that she is not from a lower class poor family - which explains her family's reaction to Chip's thinking concerning dowry.
Such a good beautiful couple! I am 45 years old, never married and have had 2 long relationships of almost 10 years. Financially I was exploited and I have to change that. From my point of view, it is good to support your partner and his family, but everything within a reasonable framework. And yes, I earn between 150000 and 230000 baht every month, but at the end of the month 90% of the cost of living is gone. I'm going to Thailand in a month to get to know the country and the people. I had to save a lot for this trip. Maybe my future dream woman is waiting in Thailand, who knows? Thanks for the great video!
One important thing that you should keep in mind when discussing Thai dowry is that its amount is based on your Thai fiancee’s status, education, occupation and other related social background information (such as her virginity). An average middle-class, university-educated Thai lady deserves a dowry of 100,000- 300,000 baht. A dowry of a million baht for an uneducated lady of modest means is just ridiculous. Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore. In fact in most of these instances, no dowry deserves to be paid. Thai dowry, however, is usually symbolic in nature and will normally be returned to the married couple after the wedding, so as to help them start on their new life.
I’m 35 and plan on marrying a Thai girl who is 27 we have been together 6 years. I’m Australian and have a decent job and am middle class in Australia.. her family is from Isaan and live very basic style with low income. My girlfriend is government school teacher who went through university to achieve this job and is what I’d call a good girl had only one previous relationship to a Thai guy in high school.. how much would be a fair amount to pay sinsod and gold I’d also be paying for the wedding and also will be giving a western style engagement ring.
What do you think would be fair for a 61-year-old farang marrying a 31-year-old woman working as a nurse's aide in Bangkok? No university education, with 13-year-old son being raised by grandmom back in the Isaan village. Kid's father was 18 when son born, never married, no sin sod, stuck around for 3-4 years until he cheated & she broke up with him. Kid's father not contributing at all to raising son. Appreciate your thoughts!
She probably was a sex worker. Don’t believe her stories is your mistake. She probably was shaking her stuff at baccara and got pregnant by farang. Most of these women do so don’t feel bad. Just don’t trust her.
@@Nordic_Sky your a simp. Am not. I have chicks letting me stay in there condos single no kids in Thailand. I doubt you have game on my level. Why you telling me am wrong and defending her so quick. Wake up beta male.
You don't buy the women, If real money transaction are at play you buy a share of the family firm. Which is kind of a problematic concept for us westerns as what we pay for are of no real value to us.
