**$34,191.80, IS WHAT THE BILL CAME TO. **My Teeth Were Broken In A Car Accident When My Mouth Hit The Steering Wheel, They were "Fixed," with caps and a partial, but under the caps my teeth were getting worse, I had to have an infection ball removed and scraped, I kept having abscesses and constant dental work done. And that price was what I paid, ONLY later did I get some money back for the dentures

That’s freakin ridiculous. I got a total of 15 implants,,,, 9 on top and 6 on the bottom bc I still had my lower front teeth for 17k. My dentist quoted me a price and it includes whatever it takes, bone grafting, temporary denture with no hidden costs. He even put in 2 extra implants no charge. People should be able to afford quality care without mortgaging their house.

It's crazy how much an implant cost in the USA. At our office in Mexico, the cost starts at $700 and that includes the abutment and crown! For an experienced implant specialist the procedure is routine and the equipment and materials we use are the same as one would find in Los Angeles, Toronto, or Phoenix. Sometimes it can pay (a lot) to research getting dental work done abroad.

My dentist quoted me $50K for total replacement. $5K-$7K per implant, I paid $1400 last week for 7 extractions of tips that were broken and dead. At first they quoted me $2,200...I pushed back on that price down to $1,400. To me you got good deal on pricing!

I'm just finishing up 2 implants at UNLV Dental school for about $2500. They also clean my teeth every 3 months $50 and done a couple fillings $100 - $150. It's the best Dental care I've had in my life (I'm 57)

Minnesota's U of M Dentistry Department has a great reputation among US dental schools, and you obviously saw some experienced professionals who used top quality materials. No it would not. If you're thinking they can get them with medicaid, they can't. First, you have to have proof of citizenship to qualify. Second, medicaid does not cover dental work unless it's an emergency (an infection, a severe injury, etc.). All it will cover, in some states, is a general check up and cleaning. That's all.

In Florida a dentist wanted $8200 for one implant . Tried to charge me $125 just to watch a video on implant procedure . Time to shop around !

not to justify that cost, but some do require more work than others, bone graft, infection and how they do the implant. Many simply "freehand" the implant procedure. Some implement a 3d scan to get an implant guide. Which usually adds to the price...that 3d equipment has to be paid for somehow...just sayin'...

Check Dr Marco Cavallini in Costa Rica. You just send him a 360ﾟ X-ray and he will send you a quote. They have rooms right there to stay in. He and his son have done hundreds of thousands of implants over the last 30+ years. I spent $15000 for complete mouth reconstruction with implants and all zirconium crowns and bridges. Plus it is a nice little vacation to.

About a year ago I met a woman who'd had several dental implants done in Mexico much more affordably .She'd gotten a referral from someone else in Mexico who'd used a good dentist there and she was pleased with the implants. I think she said it was about one tenth the cost it would have been in the US.

Those implant supported dentures were made by dental technicians in a dental laboratory. The techs doing these types of cases are usually very experienced ... 20 years or more. They usually have many more years experience that the dentists doing the cases. If you want to know who the best dentists are in your area go to a local dental lab. If it is messy and dirty then leave. If it is clean and neat and high tech then it is a good lab that does good work probably for good dentists. If there are maybe 15 people working at the lab they might have 75 dentist clients. They know who is good and who is not just like nurses know who is a good doctor or not. They know the dentists that are the most experienced, the most honest, the best, the ones that have the least problems. These lab owners will have not problem directing you to a top dentist doing good work. They might even show you big cases in progress.

I agree with you. I have worked in the dental field a long time. A lot of clients will be attracted to certain offices through marketing and snazzy offices. Don't let that be the deciding factor. Do your homework, people at the local dental labs will gladly have a conversation with you, they won't tell you who is "bad"...BUT they will tell you who does good work. I've seen every kind of office, dentist and oral surgeon...from a working perspective. Choose wisely.

In my question to my dentist about the average common cost per implant his reply was $3,200 to 3,400. Your average seemed to be about 2,800 per implant which seemed reasonable. Now my own experience with my dentist, the same one who gave me the common average price. My dentist had given me two high quality caps that did not hold up as long as they should have. When I went back to him he was emotionally sorry and offered to do the best that he could for me. I am 84 and below poverty line, but he wanted to correct the caps situation. He explained implants and offered to remove the two capped teeth and replace them with implants. Also, to do the best he could for me he gave me a total price of $1,600 and told me I could pay what I could when I could and with no other payment arrangements. The two implants were excellent, I never got a bill but did pay as I could when I could. It took me over two years and I did pay him. He was honorable, caring, and excellent.

Dude, you got off really easy. I got two estimates for something similar from two high profile dentists in New York. The crowns were porcelain instead of the cheaper acyrilic. One estimate was $117,000 and the other was close to $150,000.

My dad keeps telling me to go down to Nogales, Mexico to have my dental implants done, where so many of his friends from the Seattle and Spokane, Washington area are going to get their dental work done. I guess that my dad's friends are pretty happy with the work that is being done on their teeth, because they all keep going back..... I should try to get the names and phone numbers of my dad's friends, and give them a call. Maybe they can tell me where they went and who they saw in Nogales.

all i can say is "shut the front door" $34,000 .....um i bought a 3 bedroom house with full basement for $48,000. ive had problems with my teeth my whole life. at 18 yrs old they started to crack and chip. I brush my teeth everyday and took good care of them and now i have 13 teeth at age 53 because i put my family first. no way can a 1 income family afford dental care. i always had a pretty good job also not top dollar but always above minimum wage. These dentists are like con artists selling you property you cant afford to buy. i hope there is a hell and they all en up there......PERIOD!!!

I got mines done at the university of Maryland school of dentistry. Their diamond scholars and graduate students work in the same lab area. The total cost is about 60-70% less than a private practice. Not only that, but a reputable dental school is equipped with the latest/cutting edge technology. They also identified so many issues that my 'regular' dentist overlooked Or did a crap job. At this point, I only trust my regular dentist to clean my teeth... everything else is done at the school!

Great video! Just info for anyone interested: acrylic teeth stain and turn yellow...everything stains those teeth, AND you cannot whiten them with treatments! They are just stay yellow! No on tells you that! Porcelain best if you what white and who wouldn't? Implants will come loose down the road, just like natural teeth do, if you continue to lose bone...You should be able to have 4 posts in each arch and anchor a set of teeth on them...it would be worth it to establish a relationship with a premium dentist in eastern europe and fly there to have work done. Cost is 1/2 of what it costs in USA.

Go to Puerto Vallarta or Rosarito Mexico. No joking around. We vacation there every summer and that's where rich white people go for all of their dental work. Hell there are more Americans, Canadians, and Europeans than there are Mexicans. You get the same service but for half the price.

i met a guy here in las veas one time. him and his wife go to some town down in mexico, south of here. I think it`s some kind of medical facility. top quality care. pennies on the dollar. Working in san bernadino one time, had a clean and check. the little mexican girl gave me one of the best cleanings i have ever had. took about an hour. American dentist. charge for cleaning was forty dollars. course this was 98. have the name of that town on tape. have to look it up.

I paid $11,000 for extractions, bone grafts, Novocain, and 2 lower implants - done by an oral surgeon. Then another $8,000 for a full set of custom cosmetic dentures don't by one of the best dentists in Chapel Hill . Both my dentist and the surgeon teach at the UNC Dental School, but I saw them as a private patient It' s A very expensive and very long procedure. but I love having beautiful teeth that don't hurt anymore and look beautiful. You had your work done by the Dental School so I'm surprised your bill was so expensive. I still need imbeds for my upper denture. I thank God that I came into some money because my teeth were terrible and hurt and I was afraid to smile

It's got to be like everywhere else. When they see you that your services are going to be covered largely by insurance....that is one price. If a person states they are paying cash...that is another price. Even hospitals do this. They have 2 sets of prices and you would be shocked to see the gap.

@@nhlibra for many years I had a lot of dental work in different States. Without insurance I paid the copay in cash of the ppl WITH insurance . Same each place. So basically the cost is copay for everyone then the dentist gets a boon if insurance also pays.

@@grandmalovesmebest Now a days, insurances are only paying for x-rays and cleaning. Everything else you have to pay for yourself. They don't even cover procedures that are deemed "Medically Necessary"! You would have to get outside Dental Insurance if you want some kind of discount and those aren't cheap either.

@@MeMe-cg4kn I have had mixed results with prepaid dental plans. 20 to 40 percent discount by providers. YMMV. Atnea and Careington are the "leaders". 100 or so per year plus $25 enrollment. The biggest obstacle is finding a competent/honest dentist and these plans sometimes attract bottom of the barrel. The patient has to be sufficiently astute to determine if their dentist is above board. GOOGLE Readers Digest article HOW HONEST ARE DENTISTS. Much to my surprise there was a top notch dentist nearby on Atnea. Although implants were not covered he applied discount to 5 implants, 6 crowns and other restorative work. Total tab was $32,000 less 14,000. 18K out of pocket. 4 years ago a crown with that plan was 600 but increased to 800. 600 for a composite crown is cheap. 20 years ago a "gold" crown was $750.

I mortgaged my house & paid $20,000 for 5 implants on the top only I got acrylic with a titanium bar & the denture I wore for 3 months after the implants was turned into an acrylic hybrid and that was my temporary that was initially loaded on the implants. 3 months after that I got my permanent with the titanium bar. My provider gave me my temporary to keep as a spare & it was a good thing for me. After 7 years I broke off a front tooth from my hybrid eating a bacon cheeseburger. I went to a dentist in my hometown that does this procedure & he took off my permanent & put my temporary in while my permanent was sent to a lab for repair. Each change of prosthetic was $200 & the repair was $250. That same tooth broke off again a month later. That 1 tooth was permanently weakened. I had to get a personal loan for $9,000 for a zirconia hybrid. The new one was loaded & due to a lab error it didn't fit right & I broke into 2 pieces with the first bite of food I took. I am currently wearing my temporary & much more computer aided measurements were taken & I will have another zirconia hybrid in 3 weeks. What I am saying is it may be better to be quoted & to pay 1 all inclusive price than to receive a huge piecemeal bill. The lab has had to make 2 zirconia hybrids because they are 1 piece construction as opposed to adding individual teeth to the gum base. Also so far I have had 4 teeth switches at a normal value of $200 a piece & where the 1st zirconia hybrid broke it messed up an abutment that had to be replaced & I don't have to pay an extra bill for that either. So going to the dental college you got a teaching college price break & a lot more implants placed for a lot less money. But you can't go back with a problem without more charges. I would find out if I could have a spare made from the dentures even if there is another charge because it's really helpful to have teeth to wear in case of a problem with your permanent teeth.

At 64, I went with dentures. I had the car for implants. Wish I'd have done the implant secured dentures. I hate the regular dentures and have been depressed ever since. Also spent the money on vacation, now..... regrettably I messed it up. Very sad. At your age it's the right thing to do!

I’ll leave a comment on here so that no one follows your lead. Pulling out your own tooth is not the same as loosing teeth when you were little, you cant just pull it out. What you dont know about pulling a tooth is that many times the roots can break and a piece stays in the socket, then you really have no way of taking it out at home, therefore this can lead to an infection, and those 80 dollars multiply into a larger bill. So my advice to you and anyone who reads this, don’t be a barbarian and pay the 80 dollars for the sake of your health! Incase that didn’t disuade you, infections in the jaw can quickly travel to the heart, causing serious complications, such as death.

Those contractual adjustments are reductions! See -- they're in parentheses -- they're deducting those. That's because they were living up to the contract. This was actually a good deal compared to many implant dentists.

Priscilla, don't know how far you are from Mexico but it's a great option for quality dental work. We live 5 hrs away and have been going down for 6 yrs for all our dental work. Check out algadones, right outside of Yuma az on u tube. I pay 700 for an implant and 300 for the crown. The local dentist here wanted 5000 grand for implant and then the crown for 1100. Priced himself out of doing my dental work. My 15 yr old daughter had braces done. Total cost 300 when they were put on and 5o a month for adjustment. 18 months. 1200 total and 300 for a retainer. Her teeth came out beautiful.

Dental implants average $2000 where I live. Non metal implants (if you can find a dentist who offers ceramic implants) is $3000. If it is an upper tooth you may need a root lift, which would be about $1000. Then there is the crown. One dentist said you have to wear a tooth guard 24/7 for 6 months for a ceramic tooth and that would cost about $800.

I've done it several times. I've gotten root canals overseas for $20-40. In the USA? About $1200+. Dentists are con-artists.

A contract adjustment is a reduction (subtraction) based on the contracted amount of your (the) insurance. So, for example, the dentist charges 1100.00 per tooth, the contract the dentist has with the insurance only allows 800.00 per tooth, your contract adjustment is 300.00. The amounts in parenthesis are not charges, they are subtracted from your bill. I'm sorry this experience happened to you. I was hit by a car while I was walking and received nothing since she had no auto insurance. I am missing 7 teeth and having problems with others. I do wish I could do something like this.

The dentist I used was the best I have ever been to, he even saved a tooth that 2 dentist in Midland TX, told me there was no way to save. I worked with implants for around twenty-five years or more, not including school. I could tell you all kinds of stuff I have seen and heard. Other than the cost.......What about function? Can you eat and sleep? With dentures you lose taste buds, ridge resorbs and other problems and to mention relines. Also, would you do it again? From what I have seen these things do not last forever, be sure to save some money for future expenses. BTW: You about right on about cost in today's market and I would have knocked me out if you think about cost. Thanks for your time to reply and Take Care!

I also use a Dental School in New York City, and dental extraction usually costs $79.00; So why is a school in Minnesotta (sic) charge $129.00 for an extraction? Here in New York City (The most expensive city, besides S.F. in the U.S.) An implant with the crown is about $17,00.00, and they have never charged me extra for x-rays on the implant, only the first time. So for 12 teeth it would cost about $20,400.00, Lets say you have to have grafts and other issues, it would not be more than an additional $3,000.00. Still less than what this school charged you.

Sorry you got rear ended. I have mine for $18,469 (plane fare included) 13 extractions, 14 implant, Full arch Zirconia upper and lower, bone graft, sinus lift. America does not have the monopoly on expert dentist. Really truly sorry for your expenses. But, hey!!! as long as you are happy that what counts. I've had people come to my office with complications from that care that can't afford to fly back to the original doctor or no longer want to see the original doctor. Finding surgeons and restorative doctors who want to take care of someone else's work is difficult. @@bobdentremont1666 I only use oral sedation on some children. I'm usually doing deep IV sedation. Gingival grafting is pretty much limited to implants. The acrylic holds up pretty good. I got stuck with some acrylic crowns done one time before I could afford porcelain. I had much better insurance. I'm from Minnesota also. Also, I'm sure you realized that dentures SUCK! Big time.

My daughter went to a dentist in the Dominican Republic who does implants, and teaches other dentists how to do them. She had already had her front 4teeth pulled and was using a partial. The dentist in the D.R., removed her remaining teeth, put in 6 implants, made a permanent bridge for the teeth he pulled, did 2 bone grafts, filled 5 cavities on her bottom teeth and a full cleaning. The dental work, in addition to the hotel, (They were there Mon- Fri.) came to $9,600.00 the majority of the work was done as soon as they arrived on Monday.

honey, go back and look at your invoice because any number that is in parenthesis is a debit or payment. all those adjustments are in parentheses which means those are not amounts added to your bill. Those are deductions from your total not additions to your total. deduct those as well as your payments also shown in parenthesis. You may have over paid! looks like the final total was approx. 30k and your payments and adjustments look like about 34K. you might have some dough coming back to you! PS good job on the teeth!

NO, your wrong, that was the full amount out of pocket. It was only after I filed a complaint and review of my coverage that the ins. company finally covered the dentures that I needed to wear during the process, but many ins. companies do NOT cover the full cost of dentures so I left that in the full cost, especially since that amount needed to be paid to have this done, it was NOT until later that we seen any money back.

you can eat steak or bacon with just plain old dentures. My dad had full set of dentures practically his whole life, which was partly my reason for just getting top denture recently. A lot of it is psychological pit to get over. I had a partial on top for a few years before I got the denture, that thing gave me more trouble than the denture so far. (except for the pain of extractions)

From looking at your bill, they took you for a ride. All teeth extractions could've been done in one day then give the gum time to heal and have you come back within a couple of months, drill the holes for the implants and be done with it. Where doctors and dentist takes advantage of people is having them continuesly come back and pay for additional visits out of pocket because a insurance company will only pay a certain amount. You only have yourself to blame for letting them take advantage of you instead of searching for a experience dentist without the Hollywood actor price. Some people go to the UK because they get a much better deal. Unfortunately it's too late with your case. I need all my teeth pulled and full implants put in top and bottom and I'm going to do my homework. You paint yourself as a person on a limited budget paying 38.000, give me a break. A true poor person like myself has no other choice to search until I drop. Let me finish by saying, I'm very happy for you that your teeth looks great. I lost just about all my teeth and it's taking a toll on me. Not being able to eat the food I once liked and I can't smile and laugh anymore and the world we live in is all about money.

Your mouth needs to heal after the implants, takes months then the abutments and caps, then a bridge over 2 implants. It takes 1 year and coordination between 2 dentists.

Most surgeons will want to remove and place implants after extraction with bone graft if needed. Six months of healing depending on general heath ;if graft and if upper and lower with one covered then exposed later. I had nine done all extractions and implants in four hours surgery then 6 months total until capped. including uncovering bottom. Its really cheaper than same time in surgery by doctor. Follow up was extensive during healing. Caps where just has expensive as the surgery. My surgeon had done 25,000 plus implants and did not do the caps themselves. as he only does surgeries .Total of about 6hours surgery ;five one hour checks and then 6 hours total to fit and install caps.

You're so blessed to have been able to do this though. I fell down steep concrete steps trying to keep my best friend's mother from falling down them. She had just been in ER a week or two before due to falling in the bathroom and winding up with a concussion. I took the brunt of the fall on the rough, black asphalt. (I think that's what it's called. It's very rough and uneven) Then I broke my nose, and I know now that there is such a thing of actually "seeing stars". I had bruises on my face, a black eye, scrapes all over me, it was painful. My teeth are a train wreck. I am so, so sad. I don't want to leave the house, it makes me feel "naked" in a sense. It knocked my front two teeth loose, and I am missing four. The dentist has said that he's going to have to pull them, too. They are as loose as they were in 2nd grade when I had my baby teeth still. The worst is the two up front, by my right front tooth. It's amazing how much of a difference your teeth make on how you feel about yourself. I would give anything to have mine repaired. Due to other existing health issues, I can't even work. (silently crying inside, so I not only lost my teeth but my self-worth because I can't work) I don't know what I'm going to do. So, if I were you, I would thank the Good Lord above that you now have beautiful teeth. You really can't put a price on your self-esteem. It has an impact on everything in your life. I feel like I'm going to die a lonely old woman with a house full of Chihuahuas. I'm up to two now.

I recently had back surgery (1thru5 L) and the work was done by a area top rated neurosurgeon and my bill wasn't that expensive. And this doctor can do brain and spinal surgery!!! And like he said one little slip of the knife and I could be paralyzed the rest of my life! I don't think anything a dentist does has that kind of risk. Start with the top of the bill. The x-rays are digital and 3D. That is so they can see what they need to do. Think of those as the architects blue prints. The extraction costs include the pain killers. The grafts are what they are, you must have had periodontal disease. The posts cost about $1,000 to $1,100 each which should include a titanium post has a serial number and and has to be put in at the proper depth and angle and that is what the x-ray is for. Then you pay for the crown that is put on over the post - cemented in place. You likely had a bite adjustment so the facets of each tooth meet the upper/lower tooth perfectly. They usually do because of the skill of the people doing the work and the x-rays. The dentist I used for ten crowns removed all my fillings (almagnum) and replaced them with a ceramic product. Then came the caps for which I was knocked out so he could do two caps at a time. Remember the x-rays, well they go to the lab across the hall and an NCR machine carves the caps from a ceramic block and then polishes them. Then they are cemented into place, the bite is checked and I go home. Takes four hours for two. The credits on your bill are the differences between what the periodontist/dentist/dental surgeon charge for their time and the materials and their contracted rate for the same thing with your insurance company. Not all insurance companies will allow the same amount for the procedure. But remember, the dentist is paying for that nurse/technician, the coder, the biller and the person that applies the cash. And that x-ray machine is very expensive as is the chair. There is a lot of costs on the providers side. My mouth for 10 crowns was about $15,00; my wife's costs for 2 implants was about $16,000 and she has two to go. When you otherwise have good teeth, you usually replace the tooth with an implant these days. I ran a large cardiology practice in my retirement so I ask about my bill. Your bill is very explicit and clear. Mine, for the procedure on my back yesterday, is anything but. Shows the billings codes rather than was was done!

c reed yeah it’s safe, but I’ve been going to TJ for years, even during the worst of times when it was a ghost town 10 years ago. I go to a spot called Odontex and the dentist is Rodriguez. The line has never moved as quick as it does now. If I’m not driving, the pedestrian line takes about 5-10 min usually, unlike the past which would take around 1-3hours. There’s American and Mexican military everywhere close to the border. If you drive u could be stuck in the line for about 30 min - 2 hours but that’s not bad compared to before, 3-6hours. I look white and I don’t get hassled but I know my Spanish and I have family from Mexico. So I get to visit them and eat the best tacos. Why do you say that? That’s not pure profit for a dentist! The dentist has to pay a laboratory to make all the appliances and implant crowns. Plus you have the price of an implant post, abutment, and other components necessary to make a complete implant tooth. That stuff is not cheap! Jay is correct, too, in saying the type of material used is reflected in the cost. Then you have to consider how many appointments it took for Jay to have all of his work completed. I’d say he probably had anywhere between 8-12 visits from start to finish. Plus many of those appointments were most likely around 3-4 hours long. So it’s not like the dentist cleared $34,000 and a dentist deserves to be compensated an amount that reflects his knowledge and expertise. Jay has a beautiful, healthy smile and I agree with him that it was money well spent. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Have you ever considered the cost incurred by your dentist in providing your dental treatment? Supplies, lab fees, material costs, the salaries required to compensate and retain the amazing, competent and caring team that assists in the rendering of your care, taxes, regulatory costs, licensing, fees for the continuing education required by governing bodies, utilities, malpractice insurance - I could easily keep going. Every year these costs go up at a pace that is exceeding compensation by insurance companies. Hopefully at the end of it all there’s something left over for your dentist as compensation for giving up nearly a decade of their best years so that they can treat you without screwing up your mouth, and as compensation for the risk inherent in treating patients in an over-litigious society. Maybe you could consider just a small sampling of these factors before again consciously choosing to demonize people like myself, who spend our days agonizing over providing our patients with the very best treatment and experiences we can possibly provide.

Long story short. I've had teeth knocked out from fighting. I bare knuckle fought in Thailand mid to late 70s. What didn't get knocked out were cracked or chipped. By age 34, I decided to get full plates, top and bottom. I'm 64 now, still have the original plates from 30 years ago. Paid $500 total for both sets plus 12 extractions totaling a final cost of just over $1500. Never a problem, I eat corn nuts, bite into apples as well as corn on the cob, never once have they failed me. They look just as good today as the day I got them. So in today's market of inflation, cost would be about $3000, maybe. A far cry from 34k.
