How much malware can you get from fake download buttons? 

This is what my mom thinks is going to happen when I download steam on her computer. I don’t understand the replies on this comment.

When you try to get a virus by downloading minecraft off a suspicious big green button in a russian webpage hoping for a virus but you get the game for free.

In my years of pirating experience, I can tell that most fake download buttons will have a glow and arrows pointing it also some bounces

I remember some years ago when I tried downloading something, and I must have missed a checkbox (or not) and it downloaded "chromium" which... Couldn't be erased, no matter how many times I tried uninstalling it, it always came back on reboot. Can't remember how but I managed to get rid of it but since I've never downloaded Chromium, even from trustful sources, it's a trauma 😂

I am going to use this to educate my family and my class about internet safety and to not click random ads, as i am the only smart one in class and they all do it.

This feels like a speedrun of getting infected by a malware.

The only thing that bugged me, is knowing that the cute cat which is set up as the users picture will not have the beautiful life of being a normal user, that is used regularly, but has to suffer endless neglection. Besides that, nice video, very informative

The funny part about those fake downloads is that they might appear in places they shouldn't be. I once saw this fake button on my weather app 🤦‍♂️

This is all just giving me a memory from when my friend wanted to play wordle on chrome with me, he went to the wrong website that said he could play it if he downloaded something, he clicked on a “your download is ready” virus ad. And ended up downloaded Wave Browser on a school computer. But don’t worry, i deleted the .exe and all other temporary files it storred. (Since this is a school pc, there was nothing but chrome and onedrive.) so it was incredibly easy to tell what was what. And I also went to chrome service worker internals and removed everything there. This was like 2 years ago, and nothing has happened. So he’s fine.
