Yeah absolutely Mike, I remember early 80s when we still had 3 channels (and all of them closed down at night) and programmes like Song of Praise or Antiques Roadshow or Last of the Summer Wine would get 5 million viewers lol! Well maybe not that many but it was probably quite high. I think Bullseye and That's Life used to draw in 20 million viewers! It's unheard of now. Now if a series or programme gets 5 mill, it's considered a success! Too many channels, too many streaming channels, too much content online. And you know what, all this choice is great and it was a mere dream back then in the 70s and 80s, but I don't think it makes us an happier than when we had 3 channels. (remember when old telly's had ITV2 and ITV3 on the buttons but no actual channels to watch!). It's insane and overwhelming how much choice we have now. I don't watch mainstream telly now as a) nothing there I want to watch b) too many political leanings and lecturing in all programmes now c) I refuse to pay the TV licence to the Beeb anymore d) can find something on RU-vid more interesting, such as your channel. Anyways, off topic I know.
@MichaelYates me too! Yeah it could be boring at times but so what. When something really good was on it was a treat. Now we have too much choice and leads to overwhelm and apathy. I would take boredom over overwhelm and apathy, boredom encourages you to go find something else to do instead. I think that's what they had such good sounding hifi in the 70s, not alot else to do and that was the major form of entertainment besides telly and cinema.
