I'm a software engineer, and staying too long at toxic companies negatively impacted my mental health. You were wise to leave. I love developing software, but it has to be in a positive environment.
i was one of the first CCIEs in the country many many moons ago...i know what you mean though..i left a job I was at for 15 years.. never looked back....was like a weight off my back...been doing my own thing ever since.
Looking at it from this perspective, buying a C8 is a good investment. You can literally buy it, drive it for a few months, then ask an extra 20k for the car

One thing i learned is if you are actually good at what you do and you can back it up then lie on the resume lol. But again only if you have the tech skills to back it up. Jump around to different jobs to build up the salary faster
