Most don't; revenue sources could be league revenue share, sponsorships, tournament earnings, merch, revenue from content creators/influencers affiliated to the orgs, etc. Orgs are probably burning through VC money hoping esports gets bigger and will eventually be profitable.

I respect the living shit out of you for making this video! So many pro players and streamers make me cringe sooooooo fucking hard when they try to hide how much money they make or dance around the subject. It's quite childish if you ask me. Being transparent like this is actually extremely educational and the general populous will respect you 1000000x more if you're honest and open as opposed to reserved and mysterious about the topic/subject. Great job Ian!!

you have to be a minor lol it’s perfectly normal to not want to disclose your salary because that’s personal information
@lukaweicker
@lukaweicker 2 года назад
@@zheretxc I definitely agree. It's up to the person who makes the money to disclose it if they want, and usually talking about that is seen as rude. I can also see why pro gamers especially wouldn't talk about it much since I'm sure it'd get a lot of talk about if they deserve that
@CorruptInsurgence
@CorruptInsurgence 2 года назад
@@zheretxc I’ll start off with the fact that I’m actually 24…. I also grew up in a relatively conservative European home where it was always specifically taught that disclosing how much money you make is rude and personal to the point where I was never told even when I got older (around 18+) how much either of my parents or grandparents made. The concept of it being “personal/rude” is just ridiculous. Nobody has to disclose their salary, just don’t beat around the bush like a pussy. All you have to do is say, “I’m not comfortable talking about my salary”. THAT’S IT. The problem is, people either cap heavily or beat around the bush and slither out of answering the question because for some reason disclosing how much you make is something to be embarrassed about or something that’s rude to talk about…. It’s childish to think such BS. If you’re reason for not wanting to talk about your salary is “it’s rude to talk about or embarrassing to discuss it”, you’re kind of a weirdo. If you just simply don’t want to discuss it because you don’t want anybody knowing personally, that’s completely different.

There are very very few call of duty players that are “Set”. I would say Scump is set for life. Very few others at this point. Keep in mind these figures are pre-tax. If they make $500k for 10 years that’s $2.5m after tax. Assuming you never spend a dime of it. $2.5m ain’t gonna last forever. Invested, you can expect to make more than the average American household but you’re not going to be making 6 figures.

Players should build their RU-vid channels AND stream on Twitch. You don't have to be on cam to be successful, but in order to maintain your life when your professional career is up, you have to build your brand while the iron is hot. Everything Ian said in this video is true. Not every player can be like Scump, FormaL, Karma, Crimsix, and Clayster. Even the boys over at FaZe are probably making rediculous salaries, well above the league high. When you look at Scump, most likely the highest paid player in the league, he's making crazy money with his OpTic contract (I'd guess between $500,000 - $1,000,000 per year), he's sponsored by huge companies, like Oakley and Scuf Gaming, and has ownership in CTRL. He then hops back on Twitch, randomly, where he quickly amasses between 10-30k subs and MAINTAINS those numbers for a few months before he goes back into the shadows. Add in the known fact that he's frugal with money, we can all comfortably say that Seth, and players alike, will never be broke.

great point @5:50 People love to spout how washed a player is because they're having an average season. It's unrealistic to expect any professional player to perform at the highest-level in a title that changes year after year. I'm no pro, but I do consider myself an above average player, and I can admit that some CoD's came more naturally than others. Let's be real, no professional player is washed, they're extremely good at what they do and their success in rising to a starting spot in the league is proof enough. Some players, even the best of the best, will experience bad seasons. The cookie crumbles that way, unfortunately.

I wonder how much general makes. The guy has been a super sub for optic for like 3 years. There's no way he's not making at least 100k. The guy hasn't seen a single pro league game the whole time. It takes an amazing amount of patience nor money to be able to do that.
