Wow, I would definitely NEVER deal with them again and pass the word to other vendors to not do any of their shows. That is a really shitty way to handle things, definitely not professional on any level. Sorry you lost merchandise, I would have definitely been devastated.

With some TLC, we were actually able to salvage most everything. But it was a very stressful time lol. And I definitely agree that that was a really unprofessional way for them to handle that. Like, rude much haha?

I dread ever having to deal with the chamber of commerce in any town I go to for an event... They're either really nice and great or great and missing in action or horrible and missing in action still! I'm glad you were able to make as much with such a horrible storm happening over night!
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo 3 месяца назад
Yeah, that was the only saving grace of that event. Ugh, it would have been so much worse if I made very little money and experienced that. But yeah, I kind of agree now that you say that. Most of the chamber of commerces I deal with fall into the "great" or "great and missing in action" category. Probably more so the latter one. But I mean, if they've done adequate planning and preparation and actually communicated with us leading up to the event (as most do), I don't necessarily need them at the event because I just go, set up, sell, pack up, and leave lol. But when they aren't doing their part, that's when problems arise.

@@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo yes! I just done an event (I didn't even record a thing! 😕) but, it was first come first serve on set up spots and there was an area for food vendors and one for vendors...but it was horrible. No one knew where to set up, except for the ones who had done this event last year (because it's that new still). I had to ask them because the event planner was MIA for her son and his baseball team setup for them to sell watered down horrible 5.00 lemonade. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The traffic was ok, but not the best like she had stated she had, but I had fun and sold more than I thought I did. Plus she only allows 2 crochet artist but her previous event has rained out and she ended up with 4 crochet artist at this event. (Unfortunately I'm not able to do any others there now, because the other crochet gals bought the whole year out!) But, my tent had SO MUCH traffic compared to their tents so IDK 😐 but it was fun. Just no communication on the event planners part, never even seen her! Never met her either 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good for you. Terrible venue vibes. Sorry you had the problems. You learned something AND maybe you can arrange a booth across the street next year. Hang in threre.

Gosh this whole situation is so awful. Im so sorry, I'd cry for sure. I've yet to do a 2day market but lessons I've gathered from your video are: regardless of how long the walk is, take all plushies/valuables out of the tent overnight with you AND take extra Tupperware boxes to box up any display baskets, signs, etc (and maybe even put weights in the bottom of those so they are unaffected by weather). Seriously such a drag & hope you recover ASAP, but I do appreciate you sharing your insight/experience. ❤

Yeah, this wasn't a great time haha. But thankfully, with some TLC we were able to salvage most everything! And DEFINITELY learn from me because this was a bad time haha. I will say, I've broke my own advice already though. I've checked the weather and on nights when it's not forecasted to rain at all, I haven't been taking everything down, but I've still been building a fortress with my gridwalls basically. I'll bring everything towards the center and have all the baskets on them facing inward. Then (because I bring 2 directors style chairs, so they're tall), I'll take my chairs and put them around the cluster of grid walls, and my two totes on the outside as well. That way, hopefully, nothing can really fall forward or backward. I've also thought about getting a bungee cord or ratchet strap to wrap around that configuration because, at that point, there's essentially no way for it to come down lol.

New follow here and you had me at “making my eye twitch” rofl! Love it. I have your kind of luck too! Plus when my hubs was in the military we didn’t have a babysitter and I’m sure there are lots who can’t even fathom not having easy childcare available! It’s not easy but hey our kids learned to roll with just about anything!

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here! And yeah, that's definitely something my kids learned early on...Flexibility. They just go with the flow lol. There's been events I'm doing super far away from the house, but I rely on my husband to load and unload everything because we put my grid walls on top of the van and there's just no way I'd be able to get them down alone... so being that the event is so far away and the kids have to come too, that means they spend like the whole day just in whatever town exploring things lol.

I would never, EVER leave my precious plushies, dolls, and quilts at a space overnight. Even if there were NO rain whatsoever. I would have taken the opyion to NOT return Sunday. This was a real disaster for you, and It didnt have to be. I must remind them (the show coordinators), the crafters and artisans MAKE their show a show. They must protect the vendors at all costs. Or they will not have anyone to show for their next event.
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo

Yeah, I'm really wondering if the turn out is going to be lower next year. I'm very curious. Not everyone was affected by the unprofessional nature of the coordinators and staff, but everyone was affected by the poor organization for sure, so I'm just curious the toll that'll take on next year. And I hear you about leaving stuff overnight. It's definitely not for everyone. I like the option because I'm lazy and until then it was never an issue lol. Going forward, I have continued to leave my stuff at events overnight (when they explicitly state there's security... my tent walls have windows so you can see the kind of merchandise I carry), but I'm VERY careful with how I secure things now. Lesson learned on my part for sure. And I will say, if there's a potential for a storm in the forecast, it's all coming with me, because that's just asking for trouble lol.

Omg that is so unprofessional!! I'm so sorry you and the other vendors had to go through that. I'm glad that first day went okay though.
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo 3 месяца назад
Me too. I feel bad for people who lost tents and merchandise. Most of the vendors I seen there were handmade vendors. I feel like that stuff is harder to replace. Not that you get off easy if you just have to rebuy stuff, but obviously, that's not true. But when you have to buy stuff AND spend a lot of time to make the thing, ugh, that's rough. And tents... tents are expensive!!! And one of the people lost a 20x10, those are like $700. Even if they did the same kind of numbers I did day one, they'd still be taking an L for the event. Just terrible all around. I'm glad I was able to recuperate pretty easily though, and I hope other people were too.

What a shitty lot of people you had to deal with all round. I guess the only real thing you can take away from all of it, is that you've learned a lot about weather and how to deal with your stock in the future and that shitty people don't need to be dealt with ever again. PS I've found that vendors do what they want to do and don't listen to the organisers if it doesn't align with their views and given this knowledge I'm also doing whatever is best for me in future events because organisers really don't give a shit about you, they want money
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo

Heard that lol. I get nervous about offending coordinators, so I don't know what I'd do if I was ever in a situation where I really disagreed with what was being said... since this was after the fact, I couldn't have actually done anything differently at that point, you know what I mean. BUT, I do think, sometimes you need to take matters into your own hands too. I was at an event a few weeks back and they had tents a long the main sidewalk, cool. But then they also had another few tents behind this main row of people, not cool. No one was exiting the main path to go to them. So, since this was a two day event, some of the people that were in a crap spot like that moved spots for the second day. Totally reasonable I think, especially since there were less vendors there the second day for whatever reason. But a friend of mine actually ASKED instead of just doing it, pointing out that there was no real path to her booth, she was just like on a lonely island, and other people were moving already. The coordinators sure did tell her no. She moved anyway. Like, why should she get a sh*t spot when there were OPEN SPOTS from people who weren't doing the second day. We all paid the same $100 to be there, so we should all at least have a FAIR shot at making money. In that case, I'm pretty sure I'd have moved too haha.

thats so weird that they made you come set up the day before?? and that sucks that you were literally not allowed to take your stuff like that's just a theft risk at this point. i mean this is worse than theft actually! because having to keep your stuff out there knowing theres gonna be a storm - trees blow down in storms! what would a tent do?? thats not your fault 😡 shame on that venue. im sorry that happened to you, they absolutely need to reimburse people for the damaged product. its so nasty when people that run a business are petty and unprofessional like its high school drama and not a business
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo

Yeah it's unfortunate that "the man" is always out here crushing "the little people" when they can. Very frustrating. Though, I will say, I've had other events say to come down on Friday to set up, IF YOU WANT, but they also allow assembly Saturday morning too. And ALL of that info is in the application up front lol. The major problem with the Friday set up in this instance is they sprang it on us at the last minute and then tried to take away Saturday morning set up even though that was covered in the application. Like, be so for real, my dude. How do you THINK that's appropriate to do lol. It's unprofessional to change stuff up at the last minute lol. Everything else was just solidifying that 37 years of doing this event is CLEARLY not enough practice because they suck haha.

That’s really sad that vendors, being that there were so many, and brought in a lot of money, we’re treated that way. Did they even have security for the vendors that left their items overnight? Other than that, it sounds like there’s a lot of foot traffic for this event, which usually brings in a lot of money for them, and the vendors
@WorksofWhimsyCrochetCo

I think they did leave a patrol car at the venue overnight, or that's at least what I heard. But I mean, this isn't really a police emergency and who's the cop really supposed to call when he/she noticed tents flying about lol. I can understand that the weather really shocked us all, but to be rude about it after just added insult to injury. But hey, I believe in karma, so, I believe they'll get what they have coming lol.
