My style of investing is not dividend growth investing, so I'm fascinated with your portfolio. The most striking thing to me is how many holdings you have, yet nearly half is dominated by one holding. I'm aiming to have a relatively equal weighted portfolio with preferably no more than 15 holdings - 20 max. The less to keep track of the better.

I’m often after dividend bull when he misrepresents dividend growth. But I feel like living off higher yield is being misrepresented a bit here as well. You could in theory live off a certain amount of your dividends and reinvest a small amount to keep up with inflation. With high yields it shouldn’t be an issue. No one says you have to live off all your dividends, just like you don’t have spend your entire paycheck.

I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

I completely agree; I am 60 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $1,250,000 in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, having a portfolio-advisor for investing is genius!

I see that your plan is to still contribute to your portfolio after you start to live of dividends? Is that expence already baked in to your current living expenses? Or are you using the money double? If your plan is to stop working after you start to live of dividends, then you should cut those 2500$ to zero. If you do that, will your portfolio stil be able to carry you financilly? And where's the taxplan? Why don't dividends investors ever think or talk about taxes? Up til 37% can be taken by the goverment. So in order to live of dividens you would need to multiply you rnumber with 1,37 just to cover taxes. According to the math, you're 2000$ short each month due to taxes. (5400$ x 1,37 = 7400$) Otherwise a great video. Keep ut the good work

I have a few of what you have in my IRA. It currently sits at $170k. I have O in that account and while I like it at the same time I'm not so sure on it any more. I'm really loving Main Street Capital over it. The yield is higher but the metrics seem to be in a better place as well. I have a majority of my account in S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Russell 2000 ETFs. I don't know about you but for the year I'm up over $21k ytd. I have no additional contributions nor do I have any free cash flow in that account. While I'm all about dividend investing it seems for the long term growth anyway it's going to be hard to beat the index tracking ETFs. My taxable account is only 15 months old and I started from scratch and have built it up to just shy of $7k. That's investing whatever I can manage comfortably. I had my first $100 month in May. My goal is $100 a month on average by the end of the year and I'm at $80 now.

How much capital are you contributing to your account each month? I assume there is some dollar cost averaging - just curious how the numbers may change based on your monthly contributions. And when you contribute a monthly amount, how are you apportioning it to your portfolio? Splitting the amount on a percentage basis to your current portfolio holdings may not be feasible, so i am assuming you have some method to buy in additional shares as your account capital grows?

I just Go with Compounding because in Italy there is a 26% Tax On Dividends so I rather Keep it Compounding (No Dividends) for a couple years and Pay No Tax that is the key when you do not have Free Dividend Income every Year. Maby Later they will turn it down a bit but Germany has 25% Tax but you get around €801 Free Dividends per year before the Tax.. So yeah Italy is way Behind unless you keep Compounding and maby Rules change if not heck free Interest on Interest

Dividends can work Wonders if you decide each month where to Invest or Spend them Next IRL and not the Stock Market but most Places have a Tax so you get Taxed Double when you get them and later when the Investments give again Dividends. If You are well off Dividends is a great way to Increase it but if you do not have much already it is better with no Dividends and let it sit and Compound.

Just goes to show you how stupid politicians in every country are. Dividends is really just a return of the stock price you paid. Stock price immediately goes down by that amount paid. There should be not taxes at all on dividends until the stock is sold (then you combine them to calc the final sale price). It makes zero sense. I give the company 100 bucks and they give me 4 back and I have to give the govt 1 even though I have no gain whatsoever. Ridiculous!

@Joedisney
@Joedisney 23 дня назад
If you think interest rates are going down 20 year government bonds can return 20% in a year easily, and that could happen while the market is dropping like a rock. You can consider government bonds as a hedge to an overpriced market. There's a reason why Warren Buffett has 180 billion in cash. He thinks the market is extremely overpriced and there are no deals at this time for him to put that $180 billion to work. He also knows it'll be a crash, inhale repeat like he did in the past bailout Goldman Sachs again or whatever other banks in trouble and make 20% plus

Not sure about letting go of your position in INTC unless your tax-loss harvesting. The (small) company I work for just purchased 32 new Intel powered workstation mini PCs. They still have a strong use in healthcare applications, and are putting a scary amount of effort into R&D. (Don't forget about the billions in government grants to build new fabs in different countries). And as a member of the maintenance department we spend quite a bit at both Home Depot And Lowe's. I also have a small position in SWK as we use DeWalt Tools in our work trucks. EATON is another company people gloss over. Also remember after year 15, you will live of those dividends, drip will stop and earnings will decrease rapidly in growth. All those dividend growth shares will eventually reach a peak and become stale. Noone can continue paying out more and more percentages indefinietly. If youre going to see any dividend return that can somewhat affect your financial lives you need at least quarter million.

how do you still make money after taking into account capital gains tax and inflation? projected growth is really really slow. You only have roi of 3.79% not taking into account stock appreciation which can go up or down. You would have had at least 7% in realestate. or 10-20% in house building or a generic business such as a car wash.

If you had your funds in a standard savings account at 5.5% interest. Your 180k would return 9.9k in the first year which is $825 per month. This would save you the first 2 years on your quest

Question, do you think nvidia has potential to be a dividend growth stock. They recently grew their dividend by 150% (which only was from 0.01 to 0.02)
@traceyschultz584
@traceyschultz584 Месяц назад
My understanding is that was the result of the 10 to 1 stock split, not a true dividend growth situation. They’re still distributing the minimum amount of .01 per share, but the stock split increased the value of the 0.01 distribution by 150%.

SCHD is paying their dividend on July 1st.. not in June. You moved the date to make June look better?
@Dividendology
@Dividendology Месяц назад
I explained in video. It’s a Q2 dividend payment. They are technically paying July 1st, because the last few days of June landed on the weekend. For tracking purposes it makes more sense to list in June.

I think you should add the $2500 to your monthly cost of living, since you're still contributing. Then see where you break even and where you can live of your dividends. I think it's around year 18 not 14

you definitely want your dividend payments to average closely on a monthly basis. getting paid $1000 one month and $250 the next is not good.
