It’s funny how we all knew these two years were going to be bumpy, and now that we’re here, everyone is ready to say good riddance. Last season, going 39-34-9 with the injuries they occurred, actually was quite an accomplishment. The kids are in full view and the transition is happening while the cap money rolls off. Understanding your math, I do agree things are tighter than expected with the new money going forward. I do hate the 4+ terms but sometimes the GM is backed into the corner with the negotiations. Middleton - go higher and may less term, 3 year 4.5 would be preferable. Needless to say, this draft is huge as picking 13 is as high as we’ve been since Rossi at 9. The Wild really need Ohgren, Khusnutdinov, Rossi, Faber or maybe a Heidt to step up or and Rossi / Faber - to take the next steps. Freddy’s contract is really the only one I truly hate, Zuccarello Johansson roll off next year. Wish we would have kept Nyquist, that was the one we missed on last summer…draft coming will be interesting, hoping we get one of two D you mentioned previously. 🙏🏻👍👍👍

It's like how we approach winter. We know it's coming, and it's still a pain to deal with lol. I am very curious to see how the draft and free agency go and I will definitely do a recap to see where we are at after that is all done

The draft unless we get extremely lucky won’t help for a year, two, or longer unless there’s a Faber, Boldy, or 97 out there who can somehow just jump in with solid production. Free agency next summer will be the most important FA market for Guerin to plug in the perceived holes / needs. This will be HIS true test.

Wild Management got rid of a ton of players after hiring BG. I could list them here but that list is too long. My best guess is the players that were kept fit the identity of a team management thought could make deep playoff runs. So extending and locking up the “core” is exactly “ the plan”. A culture reset was definitely needed but it isn’t clear if the “new” culture is really a thing or kinda what everyone seems to be saying… it’s hard to see how this new group can make a run. That being said Mids will be extended ( fits the mold) at a slight overpay 3.8 M 3 years. IMO the Wild’s only hope is if most of the prospects hit big especially Yurov and JW.

Spittin HOT FIRE today Seth! Love it! I think this year's draft may determine Middsy's fate with the Wild. I have always enjoyed his game, but he's a left shot d-man, that's not the toughest aspect to replace in my opinion. Maybe a 3x3? Meh.

It just drives me absolutely insane the tendency for the Guerin regime to drive their car 200 miles an hour into every one of these extensions, without even a hesitation, without even a seconds thought as to how they fit into the long term plan.

@@LockedonWild Same! (obviously haha) It is maddening, especially when you dissect all the specifics of the position this franchise is in. Billy is walkin the line right now, and I think our window got bumped back a couple more years based on the previous extensions alone, as Denny had said before too. I want to see how this draft goes before I lose my marbles again hahaha

Looking at comparables for Faber, Rossi, Wallstedt contracts, I figure there is about 5 mil next offseason if you leave a cushion. More if the cap goes up. Hardly a big fish but some hope I guess. Point still stands, with Billy's recent signings he leaves himself little flexibility and is banking on those vets not mailing it in after being paid when they've shown to disappear in the playoffs. Also banking on prospects hitting like they hope they will and bumping these vets down the lineup... Otherwise it will get ugly.

we have needed a rebuild for about 2 years, starting with Kaprizov. all they are doing now is wasting him on people that WE ALREADY KNOW cant perform in the playoffs

Kirill is gonna bolt in 2 years so all these pieces and extensions won’t mean a thing for this franchise. Guerin buried the roster flexibility ….sadly this team is in a rinse and repeat mode. A Groundhog Day experience forever more …this team is a minimum of 2 DMEN AND 4 FORWARDS NOT TO MENTION A COACH AND STAFF AWAY FROM A CUP RUN. sad but true.

I'm more or the opinion of trading Middleton right now and hang on to Merrill for the coming season. Middleton can bring a decent return. Before you go crazy, Hunt can slide into the lineup. Merrill sits in the press box as the #7 D man. It also clears a little cap space for a UFA and brings in some more youth.

I could def get behind this, as long as Merrill is expected to go when his contract his up too. It'd be cheap, adds future assets, and a great way to "springboard" next year into a better draft pick.

@michaelowen6377 Merrill has little to no value on the trade market, and definitely be a lame duck. I observed a lot of warts in Middleton's game last season when he wasn't "protected" by Spurgeon. Hunt looks to me as the most NHL ready D man we have in the minors. I see little downside to bringing him up. Pair Chisholm and Spurgeon, Brodine and Faber, Bogo and Hunt. If you can grab a 2nd round pick for Middleton I think it'd be a long term win.
