Seth,I'm smiling right now I've been reading my thoughts on today's show for a long time. From Denny And here is my question fir him for his debut Would he trade Gus?? And what would he do if if we're general manager??? Thanks Bea Bradley
So I'm probably putting Helenius as my #2 target, second to Yakemchuk. At first thought, I was like....we don't need another Granlund lol..as skilled as he was for the Wild, he was too small and got muscled off the puck too easily. So 5'11'' isn't the worst height I guess (are they being generous though?)...but more importantly, he's a right shot C/RW....something we also desperately need. I wouldn't mind seeing this kid & Yurov battle it out for that top line RW spot in a couple years. And I want to highlight a "couple of years", because a first round pick (who plays forward) shouldn't roast in the A for more than 1 year or 2 in my opinion, if at all.
As Denny mentioned, it’s really throwing darts at a dartboard in a way with 17-18 year old kids. I would take either D from yesterday but they most likely will be drafted and off the board before we hit 13. You build a team from the backend out. Goalie - D - center - wing. The concern with today’s players are they seem smallish - let’s beef up, get meaner and pick up some high end free agents next summer….
My thoughts on today's show, SETH ,, it's really hard to project any kid At 17- 18 years old, really a crapshoot Except a true star, like Connor Bedard The one thing you can't teach,, is Speed That's first and foremost, second for me, is what they do without the Puck that gives me a clear indication of his Hockey sense, I know it's not brought up, very often in scouting but very important to me, when I look at players.. , And to the Gang,, I hope you can put Seth and I on your calendar for Sunday's show, The day is coming soon, I'm really excited,, it's been a long time in coming DENNY
Hey everybody, another note from the editor for this video too lol. I'm posting this as the news came out that Natalie Darwitz will not be back as PWHL Minnesota GM. From what I gather it is a league decision and now a PWHL Minnesota decision, but obviously I will follow up with Alexis after the draft to get some more info on this situation! Would have got this out earlier but I've been without internet since 4pm lol.
Sorry folks. No standard premiere for these two episodes. Internet outage down in my neck of the woods, I've been without internet since around 4, so I'm using a hotspot to post these so I can get them out finally, but feel free to comment below as y'all usually do!
The draft will be interesting. It's in Vegas so hopefully Guerin can stay focused, be on his best behavior, and not succumb to temptations. I dont know enough about the players available other than Zeev Buium. It will be interesting to see if Gus or Rossi, or both, are used to move up.
Seth,if you would, when you announce The show for Sunday, would you please Tell fans if they have a Question for me It will be answered, also I think if they have a question for you, same thing It's always a good idea to involve the Fans
Great stuff today Seth! We need some "luck" in this year's draft, whereby clubs make mistakes and a top prospect slides down, one that fits the Wild's needs. #13 is basically a bubble pick, most of the cream of this year's crop will be long gone by then. Will we be able to get someone solid though? I think so....but are we REALLY going to sit around and convince ourselves that the Wild are going to use a FIRST rounder to pick a middle 6 guy? Just based on historical data (and literally the Locked on Wild episode from a few days ago lol).....mid-pack first rounders is NOT this club's forte, even if we have Judd Brackett. I simply cannot get behind any of those ideas....and the difference between a top 5 & top 20 guy is a BIG deal! We were positioned to pick #5 in December...remember? Now we're in a position to be reactive to other clubs, instead of proactive. These are the details that, when we absolutely lose our shit over a busted play-off bout, that it's for a reason! These details MATTER. Personally, my eyes are still firmly on Yakemchuk...a right shot D that stacks the right side. A top pair prospect on the 2nd line, and fills in for Faber as needed. By the way, luck is a facade, it's not real. It's simply when preparation meets opportunity...the Wild did not prepare for this draft by trying to salvage a broken season....and because of that, opportunity lessens. That's all it is.
Michael, good stuff,, I really like your thoughts on the Wild, one thought on Judd Bracket, trading up two spots with Edmonton, was simply a stroke of genius Maybe the best trade for the Wild ever, Judd continues to hit on his picks,, only one I can think of, that's going nowhere, Charlie from Wisconsin, just hasn't recovered from losing his Dad But overall In my opinion Judd Bracket is the best The wild have ever had ,
@@dennybarlau8065 thanks man! so Judd's a wizard, I think we both have more faith in this dude than anyone else in the organization LOL. I wouldn't mind seeing the Wild trade down though, this year's draft might make sense for that. Having a pre-set trade where if Judd's 3 names are all taken by #13, then we execute a first rounder swapperoo with a lesser picking team. Maybe Colorado, and we get Duhaime back? Just spitballin' ideas, I don't remember who's picking where honestly. But there's plenty of time to get creative, and I like creative, as long as it moves the needle.
@@LockedonWild well it's a definitely a negative highlight, but overall trajectory of any organization really, can be changed as well.. At the end of the day, I feel like Billy isn't straight up refusing advice from his staff and camp either. I think between being a seller at the deadline & making coaching changes, I'm personally scoring those 2 things as wins...and they may be a serious attempt to recover some of the ground that's been lost here. Time will always tell right? Cant wait for draft day, for real!
@@michaelowen6377 Michael, you heard it from me first, Walsted is generational player ,he will be the backbone Of the Wild for the next ten years and will bring the Team A Cup, yes I think he's that good 😊
6’7” 207, shit, I’m a short fat little shit 💩….I will not give up my beer 🍺 in the summer but I do need to lose some weight, thanks SETH for calling me out! Silayev would be a dream pick for the Wild, something that’s been a source of pain forever - right up there with a big / skilled / scoring C1. No more small forwards, fill in the roster with bigger bodies, get a young Foligno if available. I would model the roster like Florida’s…Excited for the Den Master! Lastly, Dickinson has been projected as going much higher, like Silayev. What’s fun about the NHL draft is one team’s dream pick is not necessarily another’s. The page I’m looking at currently has the Wild selecting another Swede, Konstantinos Helenius, showing what a crapshoot it truly is. Fun stuff again…
I am all for getting sniper shot players tgat have the tenacity to get to puck gathering and shooting lanes. You see this in a few other smaller in stature players like Cauffield and Stankoven, guys that have quick acceleration. The work ethic stands out among players like Hage. I would prefer a sizeable D Man that can skate and are not afraid to put guys into the boards.Dickensin sounds somewhat Boldyesq features and ability only in a D Man mentality.
That is why I've been so high on Silayev, having that size but being able to do something about it is just tantalizing to me. It'll be interesting to see what route they go
@@LockedonWild I hope job search is going well Seth. Hope you get more freedom in New job, less gridlock windshield time! Just remember there aren't any headstones that read, "He wished he'd spent more time at the office..."
@@LockedonWild Anton won't be there at 13. , it will be interesting to see what Billy Does, he knows he's on the Hot seat Mostly what he does with Gus,, will tell the tale,, this whole draft is constructed,, around Gus
Ohgren just got lost in the shuffe. Not my intention to leave him off the list. As far as Haight and Bankier go I wouldn't put them off limits. Would it be wise to trade them? Probably not but Untradeable is like franchise building blocks imo
@@LockedonWild Agree, and didn’t mean to sound short just was odd that Ohgren wasn’t mentioned given how well you know the team but hey, oversight is a fair answer. Would you put Ohgren in the building block group or the Haight/Bankier/Lambos group? I think you likely would not get fair value on Bankier and maybe Lambos (who both should probably garner a 2nd, imho), the team has more scoring forwards than it needs and should be looking to offload one or two, not named Rossi, Yurov, Khusnut, Heidi or Ohgren, for a bonafide replacement for Brodin in 3-4 years (including getting someone to step into bottom 4 D role in 1-2 years).
Absolutely. I think Ohgren should be put in the building block list with his build and how he uses it. This is a great idea for an episode this offseason. A prospect tier list!
If this team trades Rossi for a 1st round/6-8 pick, their GM should be discharged from his responsibilities. You'd be admitting that Rossi isn't worth what he was drafted at (when he is), trading a top 6 forward (who maybe should be on the wing), for a D-man - even a good one - which is dumb, and a sign of desperation. Rossi is not a prospect, he's a bonafide NHLer. If the idea is to trade him for a 1st and a 2nd, the 2nd better be a high-end 2nd round pick.
YT is getting really trigger-happy about deleting posts and banning people for 24-hour periods. Expect it to get worse as we get closer to the election.
Outside of Draft Day, it looks like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic for the old MN Wild! Unless he buys out Carcus and find a way to deal Freddy, nothing changes when nothing changes...I really could care less about how Carcus performed at the World's. In Fact it is far worse when you see how badly that POS ripped Minnesota fans off who pay tons of money to see a team start out as bad and still imo only improved marginally after the coaching change. Passengers before the firing were passengers after the firing!!! Like Lou Nane said when he was covering Vinny's 1st game with the Wild that every player should have Shot On Goal Quotas!
I’ve said this before if Bill Guerin does not put this team together to make the playoffs. He will be gone next year. and maybe sooner, I would’ve got rid of Derby Henderson for years ago he was around too long just because Bill Guerin, was a successful hockey player doesn’t mean that he could be a good GM. You also got to be a good businessman and make the right wheeling and dealing’s. The successful GM’s in this league are now playing for the Stanley Cup. That’s the kind of GM’s you need and I’m sure it’s a little luck, but they sure know what they’re doing.
I just think Billy's plan lacks the urgency necessary and that is why he cut the "Money's In The Bank" contracts with no move clauses. His lack of urgency will be his downfall!
"Running it back" will work out better for Dallas and Colorado. And if I can see that, it must be incredibly obvious. What's not obvious is how the Panthers are good. I don't get it, and probably never will.
I won't be happy until they totally clean house, from ownership down to the assistant coaches. Leipold isn't interested in championships, only selling seats. Guerin, while a great guy, seems totally in over his head as a GM. Bad decision after bad decision. He got lucky with a couple of trades, and yes, it was pure luck. Hynes will never win a cup, he's just not a "winner". I don't think the players are convinced or buying in. He seemed to lose the room fairly quickly. Finally, some of the assistants have been here for several years, through several coaching and GM changes....why? No ill will towards Darby, but it was long overdue with the special teams struggles this team has had since Lemaire was here.
@@travzimmerman1340Out of the last two they both have done things so far. But I like the Wild too much to let them leave. No more North Stars scenarios. This is our team. Again. Lol
My thoughts on today's show This was an interesting show, I'll start With Deano, I don't believe he will see another Job as Head coach, his style Of play has been passed bye, I'm not sure what Darby really brought to the table, as long as he was a coach though, he had to be doing something right, they are not going with a 3 goalie System, Gus will be traded, I've read New Jersey will give up there top pick For a player, and they need a goalie, It's a number ten Pic,, I can see Billy working his magic, will see Seth Alex as always good show Seth we can do Fogo on Wednesday Thursday Friday or Saturday, take your pic, Fogo doesn't know how much longer they will have this deal Denny
Elite on all points Denny. If he does go to New Jersey you are getting full credit for having it first. I am traveling for a meeting tomorrow so how does Friday work? I could do Friday and that gives you the 2 days they requested to book
Players taking less to play in Florida, Vegas, Dallas is evened out by the tax structures of the states. This is the a strong reason the Canadian teams have a hard time getting any players to want to jump ship and play there. Agree with a GM not falling in love with the roster is a path to destruction, it also can work the other way as a GM not being patient enough (Rossi) could really burn a franchise. Watching Burns all these years is crazy, Coyle for Donato another lob-sided trade. Sometimes GM’s seem to make trades to make trades, this can be dangerous as well. Glad I get to drink beer and enjoy your podcasts….
That's what we're here for Brian! And you are right on with a GM being too impatient too. Gotta have the right balance and I think the ability to just continually assess your roster critically.
I'm looking at this as a very small step forward (obviously from a performance standpoint)....but combine this with being a seller at the deadline...I'm seeing 2 good moves by GMBG back-to-back basically...we'll see how the draft goes, but 2 is a trend in my book...good or bad.
Rumor has it that the reason for Darby's departure is his persistent post-concussion syndrome at the hands of Dean Evason from the postgame win beatings. This move will mean nothing in the big scheme of things. Doing something just to make it look like you're doing something. On the other hand, I'm still giddy that DALLAS (aka Suter) has been eliminated from the playoffs!!!
Dallas will never win a Stanley cup while Jamie Benn is the Captain. He is a hack, shortcut artist with big body syndrome. He won't drop the gloves with worthy pugilists. But he will take cheap shots as long as the refs let him get away with it! He teaches holding sticks, crosschecking to the kidneys, elbow throwing and other cheating. It catches up eventually like it did against the Oilers. The fact that neither Suter aka Gutter & Parisi aka Parasite got nowhere near a Stanley Cup win tickles me pink!!! Sorry Sammy Steel, Duhaime, Dewar, Joe Pavelski the cup eludes you still...
Yah, I couldn’t have been happier when Dallas lost. Suter in the box for Edmonton’s second goal, nice. His days are numbered in Dallas - as DeBoer played 4 d in P3. Great brackets, I had Dallas and Carolina - yikes…
LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!! I picked the Oilers vs Panthers for the Finals, now it's down to basically a coin flip the way both these teams are playing...but I picked the Cats to win the cup. I shoulda put money down ahahaha.....SUCK IT DALLAS!
It's funny that rossi finally develops into a good NHL player & now instead of keeping him everybody wants to trade him 😂😂 if kirill signs a extension eventually you'd think rossi, boldy,Faber will be key reasons why so unless a team significantly overpays to trade for rossi I don't see why you'd wanna trade him or if rossi just won't sign a extension I the future
Yall really thought Bill g was a good gm lol wold wouldn't be in such a terrible spot if he didn't extend guys for no reason usually always overpays then let's the cool ones walk because they don't have cap space
The scenarios will all play out on draft day. I feel there will be a strong prospect at 13, and there will be no need to tap into the pipeline / picks to grab a high end player. Gusty’s value should have jumped based on his play at the Worlds but I would love to have a Wallstedt / Gusty 1 - 2 tandem unless they feel Hlavaj can truly become a NHL backup down the road. Everything depends on what’s offered, I know we’ll all be glued to the draft - interesting decisions coming up. As for future content, I would love to have a scout on to see how they evaluate players. There is the obvious benchmarks but there has to be some intangibles the average guy doesn’t think of, especially when the differentials are so marginal between players.
@@travzimmerman1340 yah, if someone came across with something like a first or say a second with a player or prospect, then it might be too good to pass up. Wallstedt is most likely the projected #1 goalie for years to come, it’s just scary giving up on a 25 year old goalie that has proven he can play NHL minutes. Glad I can sit on my fat ass, 🍺 in hand and throw in my two cents with no consequences! 😃. Kings / Devils / Utah / Buffalo even Edmonton although skinner is playing well tonight could be dance partners. Do NOT trade within the division - Colorado comes to mind..
