You forgot the Dutch Marine Corps. Air Assault brigade and the Special forces. Ive studied in the Dutch army and its better trained then most people think..

I am Dutch and a military enthusiast for 20 years. It would have been worth mentioning that the Netherlands was one of the founding members of NATO. Although it is embarrassing we don't spend the 2% minimum on defense that all NATO nations agreed on. Unfortunately our military is very very weak as a result of budget cuts for 25 years. Most military personnel I spoke with are very negative about government policy regarding defense. But unlike you say in this video it is much better equipped than Belgium. Belgium has no tanks, no tracked IFVs and no mechanised artillery (which makes it a peacekeeping force only, unable to fight in the highest violence spectrum). Having only light wheeled armor Belgian Army is very poor off-road, has no heavy firepower and no heavy armored vehicles. Belgian Navy has only 2 frigates. Their Air Force is reasonable though, but no true attack helicopters. In 1999 the Netherlands had 330 main battle tanks (Leopard 2), 16 frigates (various types) and 183 jet fighters (F-16AM). Today we only have 18 main battle tanks, 6 surface combatants and 61 fighters. And much equipment is in bad shape. We even had soldiers that died in Mali because of faulty mortars. AIR FORCE Apart from the F-16AM Fighting Falcon there are no other fixed wing combat aircraft. Apart from the 2 test F-35A Lightning II fighters, which could probably be used in combat if war broke out. Where did you get that attack aircraft number from? There are none. Just fighters (which do have a secondary attack role). Only other combat aircraft are the AH-64D Apache attack helicopters. Well you could kinda count the ASW versions of the NH-90 helicopter as combat aircraft which can attack submarines with torpedo's. : ) We in fact have 6 USAF B-61 nuclear bombs on Volkel air base which can be F-16 (and F-35) delivered. They are US owned but we are allowed to use them in NATO missions when required. ARMY Leopard 2 A6 is our primary ground weapon. These were the last remaining as a result of huge budget cuts. They were given to Germany and leased back as part of the Dutch-German corps. But we can use them in missions if we want to. We originally had 445, now only 18. :'( Many were sold to other nations including Canada and Finland. The Boxer is not a combat vehicle but a support vehicle (ambulance, command and engineers). CV9035 MkIII is however a true combat vehicle (and one of the best infantry fighting vehicles). It operated behind the Leopard 2 A6. But unfortunately 18 Leo 2 is not enough to escort all of the CV90's. You forgot the Pzh2000 artillery. Currently the best gun artillery in the world. There are 18 in active service and 6 for training but 33 more in reserve. There are also Fennek 4x4 wheeled armored fighting vehicles in roles or recon, anti-tank missiles (although the troops need to dismount first) and close range air defense (Stingers). Air defense (which is a joint Army Air Force unit) consists of Patriot PAC 2 and PAC 3 surface to air missile systems for long range (and interception of ballastic missiles), Fennek wheeled armored vehicles with Stingers for close range and NASAMS surface to air missile systems for medium range. NAVY There is no Evertsen design. This type is called the De Zeven Provinciën class LCF (Luchtverdedigings en Commando Fregat - Air defense and command frigate). You call them destroyers (but later say we have no destroyers) but they are in fact called frigates (and have an F designation) in the Netherlands. Although I am aware they are often categorized as destroyers internationally because that description actually fits them by size and role. However in modern times the line between frigate and destroyer is very blurry. From what I've read they are called frigates for political reasons as it sounds less aggressive/offensive than destroyers. The 2 remaining Karel Doorman frigates are correctly frigates. The 4 Walrus class submarines are the best diesel subs in the world. That is worth mentioning. For the rest just small craft?! You forgot the 3 biggest ships in our Navy! We have 2 Rotterdam class landing platform docks that can transport troops and heavy equipment all around the globe. It has a dock for landingcraft for amphibous assaults. Not just for our Marine Corps but also big landing craft like LCU that can transport Leopard 2, PzH2000 and CV90 ashore. There is also the Karel Doorman joint support ship able to transport a lot of vehicles. Apart from that there are also 4 Holland class patrol vessels. Although these are only useful for patrol and anti-piracy. Useless in any real conflict. You may notice I mentioned Karel Doorman twice. The first is the Karel Doorman class frigate (also called M-frigate) of which 8 were build in the 90's and 2 remain in Dutch service today. Ship classes are always named after the first ship making this the Karel Doorman frigate. Ship names are also reused. So the new Joint Support Ship got the name Karel Doorman. Also making this ship a Karel Doorman class. Probably because originally the last 2 M frigates were to be phased out (but were not eventually). Many vehicles are in very bad shape. Only a portion of the vehicles and aircraft are operational. Others are used for spare parts. Same with the Navy where parts from one ship ashore are brought to another ship so it can sail out. Overall we are however a lot better than Belgium. As a Canadian you might find it interesting that Canada bought former Dutch Leopard 2 A6 from the Dutch Army.

"No nuclear capability" yup, totally. We just produce the stuff to make them and transport it to volkel airbase. Nothing going on ;-)

You forgot the Royal Dutch marines wich were founded in 1665 by Miguel Adriaenszoon de michiel de ruiter. Witch makes them the second and one of the oldest marine force. In the world. and the oldest still existing military force in The Netherlands.

I found this interesting story about the Dutch “Korps Commandotroepen” (KCT) from a former German paratrooper. *There were some Dutch soldiers from the “Korps Commandotroepen” (KCT) with me on the German army Commando Course. Shy and friendly, I barely noticed them during the training. Aside from the Dutch, we also had some US Army Special Forces from the nearby 10th Special Forces Group and, of course, a bunch of German paratroopers from different battalions. The course was difficult enough and nobody was thinking about who will score the best results, but still, we were always eyeing each other, mostly out of curiosity, to watch how the different armies tackle a problem. I was really impressed with the Americans and the way they swiftly but silently moved through the mountainous terrain, whether it was day or night. Most of the German paratroopers also did a decent job. The Dutch Special Forces? I didn’t even notice them. They all spoke the German language very well and mingled more with the participants that came from the less “elite” outfits. They completely managed to stay under our radar. Therefore, it came as a big surprise to all of us when at the end of the training the results were published and the Dutch were first, by a large margin! For me, this is exactly what Special Forces are all about: Be humble and do your job, don’t put yourself in the spotlight, but work hard and excel!*

Unfortunately, we were one of the few nations to ever have an aircraft carrier. We sold it after a massive fire, and the repairs were just too high. We never replaced it :(

I was in the Netherlands military in the 1980ies as an M-47 Dragon ATGW gunner with the the armoured infantry. Back then, we had a relative huge army (one third of that of Germany, which at the time had four times our population). Nowadays, there's not much left of that. Of the 42.000 active personell, most are in support functions. Combat capacity is sub zero (maybe one tenth at best). We used to have a bit short of 1.000 main battle tanks, now we have none. We used to have 17 armor infantry battallions, now we have 4 left, which are nowhere near the strength of the battallion I served in. We used to have 213 F-16's and we'll end up with 34 F-35. We used to have six subs and 22 frigates, now we have respectively 4 and 4. And t make matters worse, due to severe budget cuts, most of the material has serious maintenance issues, training of troops has fallen short (troops having to yell "pang pang!" because of lack of practice rounds and the entire military has a shortage of 6.000 personell, because nobody wants to serve anymore for a country, that has rewarded its soldiers for their dedication in Afghanistan and Iraq with massive layoffs and more budget cuts. In short, the military of the Netherlands is in an abysmal state and the country is so weak, that any nation with 10.000 combat troops could walk in and take over government without ever having to break a sweat. Dutch politics: all words and no money to put where its mouth is.

Actually, we don’t even own tanks. We lease them from Germany (all the 18 battle tanks are from Germany). Why don’t we have tanks? Because we had to save money, we sold all our old tanks (more than 18) and leased the leopards from Germany.

I do agree with all ppl saying that our goverment still needs to improve with training methods and spend more on our defence... but when you look @ our K/D in like the last 20 years, we're doing great against countries that spend like 10x our budget :P

I was in the US army at a small NATO/NAVO base in Brunssum, The Netherlands in 1968-1970. Best time in my life. The people was very friendly and did we party. More like a vacation. I did get married to a dutch woman and my father-in-law was a POW from 1940-1944. He said the Germans treated him ok. Love the food. I miss the place.

most infantry soldiers use the C7, the C8 is only used by special forces for clearing buildings, because they get quite inaccurate after about 200~250 meters, whereas the C7 can still get good groupings at 300+ meters

I believe there Are Nuclear Weapons on Dutch Soil as part of the mentioned NATO Sharing pact Though my knowledge on this is quite old and they might've moved them elsewhere by now

i'd just like to add that what i think is the reason our army is so well trained, is because of how compact and efficient the netherlands is, meaning if they want to change something or adapt, e.g. SOP's, . it can happen way faster. also, a lot of things are made or invented here, like NVG's and like u mentioned components to nuclear weapons.

I served in the dutch army a little while and i have to say even 2 years later, it's still pretty accurate. The budget got bumped up a bit and we have a bit more personel now but other then that it's all still right

Also a very cool thing about the Dutch army is that the commando's are very diverse with a lot of specializations in it. Their main weapon is the HK416

Fun fact. Whilst the Netherlands isn't necessarily nuclear capable. They do have a small 24 nukes on their soil... Well it's not technically their soil whilst it's within their borders. Pretty far away from any actual border is the navy and airbase volkel which contains about 24 disarmed nukes in its deeper bunker. This was once leaked by a former prime minister and has been common knowledge since. The Dutch military hasnt been all that secretive about it but it's great fun scaring the American soldiers send out to "train" in that area. As someone who's visited the base multiple times and lives about 20 km away from its lines it's safe to say this isn't a hoax. There's 3 or so remote bunkers on the property which are heavily guarded by American soldiers. Once you come close you'll get stopped at gunpoint. Making jokes about nukes at that point isn't usually your best option Hope that anyone that reads this enjoys you can do more research about the nukes and the base ingeneral. Its fun but the JSF jets make a terribly loud noise .

The Dutch soldiers have almost no equipment. Half off the trucks don't work. And some soldier have too shout:" PEW PEW". During shooting practise. We are good at entertainment, like you see in this video. Our defence is a joke and we depend for 98% on NATO and the EU. We have no tanks left because we ditched our defence spendings, because of the last economic crisis. So we gave some ships in trade to loan some tanks from Germany. Oh and we share some boats with Belgium which we have been disagreeing on for the last 4 years...and which still have to be build.. Stroopwafels are really good though. You should try them. Edit: thank you guys for the responses. It is good to hear such differences in opinions. I don't think it changes the fact in which state our army is right now. It hurt me to see the state it is in and what the men and woman in our army have to do for our freedom globally. I have a deep respect for anyone who served or is serving at the moment. It is nothing against them, it is something against the people who have made it as it is right now. And it startling me to see how things are being sold to people, while it is not all that good. Don't forget that only bad products need good sales pitches. And that a lot of soldiers, police and firemen have to buy their own equipment to feel safer in doing their jobs correctly.
