How Much Power Does the New BMW M1000RR Really Make? | M1000RR Series Part 7

All manufacturers give you a power number in writing for what the bike/car will make in its stock state. However, the one thing to note is that this number reflects the horsepower at the crank!
A portion of that power is lost as it is transferred to the wheel. This is known as drivetrain loss. So the actual number that is being put to the ground is not exactly the same as what is written on the spec sheet from the manufacturer.
Today we want to know exactly how much power the new 2023 BMW M1000RR is putting down to the wheel. So off to the dyno it is!
Before watching the whole video, make sure to leave your horsepower predictions in the comments.
What we can say is that the horsepower numbers are close to what we expected so we are pleased, and eager to see how much power we can extract after all our planned mods and upgrades!

How close was your guess to the true power number? We can't wait to see how much we gain once we add some power mods! Exhaust is next!

This episode is extremely interesting. I’ve brought some of my motorbikes to be re-programmed, initially to gain power but I started to see this operation with a new eye when I brought my 2016 H2. The magician behind his computer set a new curve totally changing the behavior of the engine from 2000 to 6000 rpm, erasing the extremely uncomfortable psychotic comportement of the bike under 6000 rpm. Not only the H2 is now more powerful but also way more easy to handle (I don’t have to say it was already the scariest moto I have, now it is still scary but with sweetness…). Thanks for sharing your knowledge and bringing a little light in our minds.

Yes, a tune can really transform the power curve! It's not all about horsepower, but also about making the power smooth and consistent throughout the entire rev range

Great hp for being completely stock. I believe that any bike with 180 at the wheel is more than enough for the street. Anything more than that you won’t enjoy it unless it’s on the track especially when coming out of a turn, and opening her up for the straightaway. Great video Mani

Blais Dyno typically reads a bit (10rwhp) high. My tuned V4 made 214 first session and 217 second tuning session before we dialed in the af to 12.3af on top to take the incoming air speed into consideration ..only lost 2 hp on the dyno doing so.
@kawicepticon8866
@kawicepticon8866 Год назад
oh on 93 pump.
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Год назад
If it reads high, it doesn't make sense that a tuned V4 SP2 puts out 208hp, and a stock M1000RR puts out a 189hp. Given 10 percent drivetrain loss, the number is within the crank specs. Did you actually get an RPM reading off the bike or used the rollers for the RPM reading?
@kawicepticon8866
@kawicepticon8866 Год назад
@@Motomillion That's true the numbers are within oem crank specs if our drivetrain loss % is accurate, but some dynos have full bolted on V4s making mid 190s/ other Jap liter bikes high 180s all on pump. I have the pics of the dyno run and I think vids of the 214/217 runs of my bike at Blais.

Are you going to do the e85 kit and headgasket? I hope so. I am back and forth between this bike and a 22 fireblade sp
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Год назад
I would take the M1000RR over the fireblade for sure. It is just a better bike. No headgasket for us, don't want to touch the engine.
@v8esprit
@v8esprit Год назад
Sounds to me like operating temperature might have sapped the power. If the bikes are equal, on a cooler day, you would have had a higher base hp on the M1000RR Competition. After the mods, I hope you are able to test under the same hot conditions
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Год назад
The heat doesn't make a huge difference, maybe 1-2hp, the dyno still compensates for the temps.
@jiajianhou426
@jiajianhou426 3 месяца назад
my dealer did a dyno run on my V4S with high mount ak exhaust with upmap, it only did 188.73hp. there was no torque readings, no rpm readings. does this mean this is what they did? holding at 4000, holding at 5000? the readings are probably wrong? also, this was back in November, it was cold and humid.
@Motomillion
@Motomillion 3 месяца назад
I would definitely think that the dyno was not getting proper readings. Reading correct RPM is essential
@kathygarber3230
@kathygarber3230 Год назад
Does it or not effect the readings on the dyno because the bike is sitting still therefore the airbox isn't pressurized from the forced air induction?
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Год назад
Yes and no, not a huge difference with the ram air effect.

Not WHP. Wheel horsepower. We are measuring the power at the wheel, where it really matters. There is parasitic loss by the time power from crank makes it way to the wheel.
