This something that plagued me for awhile and effected just about everything within my own life and those around me. Not just my own assurance but that God is still willing to use me. I believe the reason that's these questions come is because the old man is still hanging on in many peoples lives. I used to believe Romans 7:14ff was the normal Christian life, but now it's easier to live in Romans 6:6-7 and Romans 8. They mostly view baptism as a symbol of something you already have, instead of dying with Christ and raising up in newness of life. Receiving the Holy Spirit is also neglected as some crazy Pentecostal thing. We need obedience to Acts 2:38-39 and we need to preach the message like the first apostle's did. Repentance, baptism and receive Holy Spirit.

Tim Sharpe We will never be perfect at it. But it is sure better to know what the sins are and doing our best..than not knowing what we are doing. I never understood these sins for a long time and suffered needlessly because the church I was in was focused on other things..mostly what served them! Like how much money you gave them. This is one reason Jesus has been so important to me. Is because He identifies the sins. Instead of calling some stupid thing that doesn't even matter a sin and focusing on that..like the Pharisees did and the church does.
Kathleen Wharton - In 2 Corinthians ch. 5 v 21 we read: For he hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the 'righteousness of God' in him. In Romans ch. 6 we are to reckon ourselves to be dead to sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Reckon means to treat it as a 'done deal'. God sees us as dead, so we have to live in the good of it practically. We have been made the 'righteousness of God' in Christ. The whole point is to live in the good of the position and standing before God which the Lord Jesus Christ has brought you into by His death and resurrection. It is not striving to achieve it, but striving to live in it as your given possession. Faith and Love are required.
Smeaton Lighthouse That is a nice sounding philosophy which I tried and it did not work! I needed Jesus in Matthew 5 6 7 to identify what my sins were. Then I coud do something about them! That is what has Healed me. I know we will never be totally sin free but it sure is better to know what the sins are so I can Do my Best.

I disagree in a fashion. The new birth brings an awakening to the fact that we have a sinful nature and lives in our fleshly bodies. It is essential to understand Romans 5, 6, 7 and 8 before we can battle against sin. In chapter 6 we reckon ourselves 'dead' to sin and alive unto God in Christ Jesus. It is not sin dead to us, but we are the ones who have to die. In the 'new creation' of 2 Corinthians ch. 5 we see that old things have passed away and all things are become new - 'in Christ'. We first need the teaching and understanding of the truth of how God sees us 'in Christ Jesus'. We have then to accept it by faith. We need the Spirit of Truth to help us see the loveliness, more and more of our blessed Lord Jesus and what God has done and provided for us 'in Christ'. Ephesians helps us see how God is working our His purposes in Christ and His plans for the believing Christian Church which is the Body of Christ on the earth. Faith helps us understand, but it is LOVE and AFFECTION for Christ which helps us live in the good of being dead to sin and alive unto God. To understand it is 'dead to sin and alive unto God'. To put into practice it is 'alive unto God THEN dead to sin'. Love and affection for Christ overrides self.

We meet in the middle at the cross of Calvary. That is why there is Calvanism and Armenianism, because men just take one approach and ignore the other. Romans is man's responsibility. Ephesians is God's purposes. We can't have one without the other.

We listen to teachers and pastors and allow the Word itself to clarify and at times rectify what may have been thought or said. For eg. many times we ( me and my husband) hear a sermon and wonder why wasn't this reference mentioned. That's why we study the Word.

Huey Leadbetter Jesus died because He brought Gods commandments Again! The Pharisees had their own program going..with people in control..and they didn't like Jesus teaching the people..messing up their program and exposing their sins to the people. Pharisees had the Power and that is why Jesus was killed! That is the reality. Jesus did not die so Christians could sin and not reap the consequences.
I believe it's because when Jesus spoke of the 'easy yoke' and 'light burden', he meant he would carry our heavy burden with us, not take it away. Jesus joins us in our struggle against sin and empowers us to fight as we come to him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
@@mr.c2485, whenever you feel overwhelmed by anything in life (which for me is almost every day), humbly come to Jesus with it. Share with Him how and why you feel overwhelmed. You know you are coming humbly when you are willing to submit to His way of dealing with it. Our way is usually the quick fix. His way may be different than what we expect. That's our part (and even this He helps us to do). His part is that support that comes along side us in what we are facing. I can't describe what it is like, because each time it is different and comes at different times and in different ways. All I can say is He is faithful to do what He has promised. "At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. Referencing time-stamp 8:44: Very respectfully, 1John 1:8 does not teach or inform us that we WILL sin, or even that we DO sin. Our experience(s) may tell us otherwise, but our experiences should never trump the authority of the Word of God in our life.. The noted verse in 1st John points us to the fact that yes -- we HAVE sin residing within us, but to HAVE sin, is not the same as to COMMIT sin. We HAVE sin simply because we live in a physical body (in which our old man, /our old sin nature which once ruled us and was in control -- ref Romans 7:5). But, as believers in Christ who have been baptized into Christ's death ---- our "old-man" / our "old nature" is now CRUCIFIED (ref Romans 6: 3-7, specifically verses 6 & 7). Despite teachings to the contrary, IF we're actually CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST -- how does a CRUCIFIED person sin? You/we either ARE, or ARE NOT DEAD & CRUCIFIED. Either Colossians 3:3 which says "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God" is true of us, or it isn't. It may well take us time to come to faith in this revelation reality, but there must come a point in every Christian's life where we realize and accept that the ONLY reason we ever sin as N.T. Christians after the point of Salvation & Baptism is because we refuse to renew our minds in the Word and walk in the complete & total victory the Lord has provided. Our CALL? Our calling involves a distinct call to "DEPART from sin". 2 Timothy 2:19 "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity". OTHERWISE, as the Lord teaches in Matthew 7:21-23, we could find ourselves one day hearing the Lord say (v23) "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity".

If he had used the word evil instead of sinful in the title, we would not have felt so good about ourselves. No one admits to being EVIL. Spoiler alert! The Bible uses the word evil! We all know that Jesus forgives sin, but does he forgive evil? Is there really any difference?
But sin is the language that Scripture uses all over the place . There's also different between say a rapist (most would call evil ) than say a Christian who fell into watching porn (which would be list or further adultery if the heart ) . I don't think most would call that evil . Sin yes . That's what it is is . Correct me if I'm faulty here 👍 sadly many fake churches and Christians don't even say the word sin . It's like ok I was wrong or made a mistake . It's diluted so badly all too often

Tim Sharpe I agree with you. There is a difference between sin and evil. I am DEFINATELY a sinner..but not evil. I understand Lust too. A girl giving sex because she thinks then the guy will Love her! Jesus talks about the girls who love too much. He says He forgives them. But we must stop doing it so we will not keep getting hurt. Jesus gave us Commandments for OUR OWN Good..not to Prove something to God.
Ryan Trevino - When the Lord Jesus comes to the air for His own (John ch. 14 v 1-3; 1 Thess ch. 4 v 13-18), all those who died in Faith (in Christ) will be resurrected and be caught up with those of us who are still living, who will be changed into Christ likeness, to meet the Lord, together in the air. I have a question, Pastor John mentioned here -we see the glory of God in the face of Christ- so true!! more recently, this idea that Jesus was rather ugly is being preaached a lot (by description used in Isaiah 53), even newer Gospel movies have an unappealing looking Jesus...yet there is also Psalm 42 where it says about our Lord, He is fairer than the sons of men (Luther Bible in german literally states "you are the most beautiful among men") And truly if glory of the Father is displeyed in the Son, how could he be ugly (not to mention, that would maka satan the most beautiful of all creation!) ofcourse Jesus is not part of creation but GOD. Jesus had no beauty in Him according to human standards because man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. True beauty according to God is the hidden person of the heart which is shown in a gentle and quiet spirit. (1 Pet 3.4).
Sean RL My grandmother used to teach me. "Beauty is as Beauty Does." my dear. I have found this to be true. Gentle good kind people are beautiful. Prideful selfish people are the ugly ones..no matter what their outward appearance!
