Great info for new LS7 owners. You’re right on the money there. IMO, I would port and polish the heads, delete the cats, and stage 2 cam for daily drivability. Anything above is little rough on low end. Professional tune very important. Also ARH is the highest price and top of the line. Kooks is mid price and very good for the money. TSH lowest priced and good for the money too. I think the first two headers use better material and craftsmanship overall.
Great video! What did you end up doing? I have a 2013 Z06 with ~ 5400 miles and don’t know if my valves were done because I bought it used. I am looking for some guidance because I may also do a build on mine instead of just fixing the valve issue. Thanks Brother! 👍🇺🇸D
Wow! That’s good information. Just before Covid strike, I was given an estimate of around 12K to 14K for an intake, heads, cam, ARH Long tubes, X-pipe, trunnions upgrade and tune for my Z06 at a local specialty Corvette custom shop. It’s a good thing that I put it on hold.
Your vid was great. I liked how you distinguished everything. I’m interested in 2006 Z06 only UNTIL I saw this. Now I’m thinking that before I go purchase this LS7 Corvette, I should talk w a shop and make two list of 2006 LS7 and theZ06 trim model . This vid will help determine what 2006 corvette is best for my budget so I can build the Corvette I want. THANKS dude.
I’m glad it helped! Obviously the valve issue isn’t guaranteed to happen but it’s better safe than sorry. I will say that even with the extra cost to fix the valve issue I still think the cost of the car is a STEAL for what you get
Love the video. This is what puts me in a corner. I will probably end up buying a Grandsport. In my opinion spending 35ish k on a vette and then have to put over 7k to be clear of mind that the engine will not grenade. Thanks again for all that info! Keep it coming.
I used to own a Corvette C6 Z51 and that tire light was always on in the morning lol. It was annoying! I am here because I see a Z06 and I want to know about the valve issue.
Def heads, cam, headers, exh, intake, tune and ALL fluids. Consider also: clutch/flywheel, 160˚ thermostat, seats and suspension (coilovers/swaybars) eventually. Brakes to stop after more pwr too.....
I'd skip the porting. Keep smog in mind if it's an issue. Why not Kooks headers? 570hp to the wheels.....that's almost 700hp engine. Careful with the cam....don't do it at the expense of power band/low end driveability. Tires for street.....Bridgestone RE71Rs. I'd do roll bar, seats and Schroth 6 points too.
check out Texas Speed ,maybe wait for TSP christmas special prices .you can take off a the heads your self and ship them for upgrades and porting .look at a TSP cam package ,and their exhaust systems
That makes a lot of sense fixing my valve issue that I might not have that 1 car out of every 5000 and that cars probably modified LOL for 2500 dollars personally I think it's stupid. And if I decided to mess with the valves might as well modify it while you're down there
The valves in the LS7 I have 799 heads on my c5 port & polished it gets expensive I have corsa extreme my buddy had the same C6ZO6 you have do it all at once
I bought a forged stroker rotating assembly from Texas speed which made it a 441ci and had the valve guides and the stock heads reworked and block re sleaved and with labor hours and everything else I believe it cost me around 9000$ ish. I spun a rod bearing due to a dry sump hose that came loose and shot out oil under acceleration. Yea bad luck.
@@chrisbelli445 All I know for sure is the problem came from one of GM's vendors, not all of them. But there's no way to tell which one has it or not from what i was told. I guess it's a crap shoot unless there's records of each Vettes service history. GM should have done the right thing and had a recall. Oh well!
@@browningbelgium2326 check the number on the passenger side head. The dealer can tell if it's original. Yes it's a risk, I just got a low mileage model
@@chrisbelli445 Great! Thanks for the tip. I'm looking as well for a 2010-13. The prices are too steep right now to buy on most of them. But mine's out there somewhere.
Mine broke before I got it fixed and it destroyed my motor! I got new motor new block new internals big Cam new clutch short throw shifter Stock intake manifold. I think the block by itself was 12000! I spent alot to get it fixed. So take car of it!
damn thats crazy. i lucked out mine got the wiggle test at a shop and they wer within spec. every 10k they said have em checkd. its annoying gm didnt catch this
You're lucky to be able to drive around because you get bored during quarantine! Over here we'll recieve a citation for being out & about! Anyways I went with RPM H/C package along with supporting mods. Car put down 615whp/521wtq! Check out my channel for dyno videos! SUBSCRIBE while there! 👌
Lol most of what u said is incorrect! U only need to a tune if u port and polish the heads not just fixing the valve guide issue. U seem new to LS engines lol btw ARH are the way to go not kooks....
