Been in business for over 11 years. Welding since 1977, went through full apprenticeship, stick , Mig, Tig, submerged arc, fluxcore, certified D1.5 bridge code. You will have those people who will try to get you to do work for beer money. I don't drink so you can take that item to another shop who will give them the real price. Then they come back to you with I got a guy who will do it for this amount. I just tell them to let them do it. Stand on your prices. Know off the top of your head what your overhead is then price the job based on that. You should know when you are making money, just like you know pipe. It is easy to walk away from a project than to lose money on that job. Some projects I just won't touch because it is a time and money waster. People will try you. I also don't weld on vehicles because if it needs welding it is time to get another vehicle.

Try to see if you can get some type of thing going for veterans. I know for a fact that truck driving schools will allow veterans to use their GI bill to pay for their tuition and give them money for on the job training. Ask me how I know, lol

Pickup a little 110V Lincoln wire machine and set it up with .030 innershield wire. Find a local welder and offer to help him for free to get some experience.
