@@latenitewaffles7926 precisely what I felt playing Splat Brella after the mid-Chill season patch (for the Sheldon License) thankfully that was mostly it, and I didn't feel held back by the fixed bugginess.
I was once describing the splatoon classes to my older brother and when I told him about Brellas he thought they sounded overpowered. The truth is sad. Such an amazing design made into a terrible weapon😢
I remember wanting to learn how to play brella back near the end of Splatoon 2. When I felt like I was finally getting the hang of it and started to play 3, it was a very rude awakening to learn that almost none of the work I put into figuring out the weapon mattered. Plus buff brella.
Yeah. Most of these places can’t handle cold weather. They need to get used to it because it’s not like this is the first time there’s been freezing weather in the U.S.
@@13_cmi In the Canadian prairies (where I am) it can get down to -50 Fahrenheit with the wind chill. My driveway has a snowdrift about 5ft tall right now. …I’m bad at convincing people to travel here haha
I’ve been a Splat Brella Main since it released in Splatoon 2 and I think it’s the most unique weapon I’ve seen in a multiplayer shooter game like, ever. How they treated it at the end of Splatoon 2 and in Splatoon 3 disappoints me because of how cool and interesting it is and how it interacts with all the other weapons, but that doesn’t matter anymore if it can barely function.
As a previous brella main, what the devs decided to do to it really just hurt Because as you said, what's the point in playing a weapon that's bad at the thing the weapon forces you to do? Then Splatoon 3 made its shield buggy and now I just can't really enjoy brella as much as I used to, and it was such a fun weapon to play and work around before, so I really hope they take to buffing it a bit
I'm so bummed about brella, I used to LOVE Kensa Undercover in Splatoon 2. The armor stalling was chaos, and I wasn't bad at combos either. But now it's so hard to play it, and I want to use it more.
Gotta love how shooters are by far the most powerful class in the game and have been for years and nintendo's first thought is to continue buffing them for no reason
This 8 minute video has given more attention to brella than the dev team has in the past 6 months Edit: …AND COUNTING!! (Please give these things kits)
I may on copium but now that Nintendo fixed most of Brella's bugs in Splatoon 3, now they can focus on buffing them next patch. If that doesn't end up happening then I'll forever curse the devs for making the weapon class terrible.
Hopefully they see that despite the bug fixes, people still aren't playing them, and realize they need to do something (like revert the damage nerfs). I miss playing Tent.
@@JakoBpyroTech Tent is such a cool weapon too, the concept of a tank/juggernaut translated perfectly to splatoon with how slow and powerful it is, and I love the mindgames you can play when you launch it whether you decide to swim behind it or not
Yes, I think until now they've been wary of buffing the Brella class until they fixed certain bugs that were preventing them from playing as intended. Now that most of those bugs (though not all) have been fixed I think they'll be more confident about altering the stats of the weapons themselves.
We need an aggressive Tenta Brella kit. Vacuum seems good on paper but it’s really bad for the weapon especially paired with beakons. Like Chara said, the weapon needs to fight and removing damage options is terrible for it. Bring back the camo brella Nintendo
The best part about Brella when it could function properly was that it encouraged supportive gameplay which is something a lot of players in Splatoon Stuggle with at lower levels. As an Ex-Brella main it’s quite sad to see it’s decline in the meta.
Fellow former brella main. One thing I LOVED to do in low level splat 2 ranked was guide the rainmaker and shield them as the went forward. That with MPU and RSU made it easy to protect the rainmaker by shielding them and also being ahead of them just in case bombs were thrown. I LOVED this support style, and now the weapon is so bad I don’t even wanna play it casually. I wish they would rework it but that’s not gonna happen.
I honestly wish there was more ways to play supportive, because being stuck in low levels means you get players who only know to "fight and then fight more and then fight more" Seriously, i've had my last alive teammates just run into the entire enemy team by themselves.
@@Whodjathink take this with a grain of salt but I think that there used to be a bug that canceled damage to the shield if you closed it on the same frame it took damage.
@@Whodjathink I don't remember exactly but in the most recent patch there was a bug that allowed the brella to shield against bombs for a few frames more than it should be allowed to after putting away the shield iirc.
I think what would make brella really useful is to increase its damage, obviously, but also to increase its object damage. With so many hp specials in the meta, brella would do really well as an object shredder similar to the splatanas and might bring it back into play.
Not sure how I feel about buffing the class just to counter the current meta. Brellas counter shooters, being good against objects doesn't feel fitting for a weapon that comes with an object stapled to it
I think brellas could help with the crab meta if the devs just made shooters deal less damage to the shields and also bettered the paint output on brellas, because if nintendo wants Tristrike as the crab counter then brellas should have better paint output but also slightly nerf Tristrike as to not make it too strong
I mean there's no "one big problem" with splatoon 3, it's more so smaller problems that add up overtime Splash-o-matic having a very versatile kit Splatanas, Tri stringers, and Brellas basically have been getting no kits/new weapons or VERY minor balance changes Maps not being very open, which lets specials like crab tank dominate Nintendo online being *questionable* etc
I believe brellas have the ability to be fixable with proper buffs without ruining the game if done right. Nintendo I believe in you. (Please don’t give it over watch tank power pls)
this is a fantastic video. not only is it well edited and beautifully paced, its also super engaging. it makes me want that rock paper scissors meta in 3. but only time will tell if the devs will listen, which based on last patch… yikes
We'll get rock paper scissors meta, but it'll be three different shooters that counter each other with people desperately using a splatana stamper as the 4th weapon to keep it interesting. Then they'll nerf stamper.
I never thought about how bad Brella was in 3, but after seeing this video, I might completely lost faith in Nintendo’s ability to balance properly if they don’t buff it soon. Hopefully the lack of players leads to some improvements on the 3.0 patch.
They don't care, splat 3 continues to do gangbusters in terms of sales, I wouldn't be surprised if they favor shooters so much because that's what most new people are drawn towards, so they make them extra good to get people hooked early
As someone who used to mess around with brella back in S2, and has been trying to make it usable in S3, I really felt this. my biggest gripe is how much Nintendo (at the moment) has ignored brella. Sure, they fixed some bugs, but in needs a few buffs! Undercover could definitely use a good kit (burst+rain maybe) and buffs They have been ignoring brella, over-nerfed machine, while *just barely* toning back splash by making more crab counters. Then *buffed* 52!? As you have said in the past, the shooter privilege at the moment is definitely worrying for the future of the game
And just like where splat brella keeps shooters in check, Tenta Brella is supposed to be the weapon that keeps backlines like chargers in check, with its giant shield protecting an area from them. But the shield is so weak in this game that eliter COUNTERS tent, the damage multiplier is so absurdly high that a single bomb and charger/eliter shot destroys a tent shield, both open and launched, making it ridiculously easy to neutralize the weapon. Brellas are a key part of the game's healthy state and with their negligence of the class, the devs are making the game a lot worse.
They really need to make it so that defending brellas take priority in the netcode over attackers and that alone would probably go a long way to fixing the problem. The shield getting shredded too easily is a problem, sure, but the shield simply WORKING is the biggest factor that needs fixing, and is likely responsible for the bulk of its unreliability. Differences in lag between matches means that some matches it'll work okay and in others you'll be hit by stuff that--from your perspective--you absolutely should have blocked.
It’s also sad because a good brella feels like it would be a good answer to the crab/splash meta we have going on. Brellas obviously theoretically counter splash. And it also has triple inkstrike which is currrently the “screw you hp specials” special. Plus while sprinkler doesnt do much in combat. It does at least allow you to build special faster. Which is helpful when said special is as helpful in the current meta as it is.
It hurts falling in love with Tenta Brella right before the patch that killed it, it's so inconsistent for it's kills, direct shots need to perfectly land to kill, and it sucks, I just want to play my pushing wall. Frankly I feel if they returned the brellas back to their "overtuned" state in balance for 3, they'd be only good, given that they have far, far more inherent counters in this game, like basically every special being one.
As a splat brella main in 2 and someone who has desperately tried to make undercover work in 3 (the bugs w/ splat brella got to me after a while), this is both super validating and saddening to watch. I knew it was bad, but didn't realize just how badly they handled this weapon class. Thanks for putting this together and breaking down how everything went. Your Splatoon videos are some of my favorites and I really appreciate your hard work. Hope you've had a nice week so far 🐙☂❤
i have a feeling that they’re probably not going to buff brellas until we get a new brella (or maybe a new kit if a new weapon for each class isnt confirmed). a brand new brella would most likely come out in summer so we just need to suffer until then
Imagine if we get a Kensa Undercover or something that becomes meta with torpedo + bubbler (since Ink Armor got destroyed, thankfully, big bubbler might be the best option)
@@HHopebringer knowing nintendo they’d probably give it tacticooler, which could be really good after crab is dead & chargers are used more. but there are better tacticooler weapons that would probably get picked over it if it stays inconsistent
Yooo you're a Splatoon player, that's cool! But yes Splatoon 3's game balance is really making me sad. Ttek literally is the embodiment of the fact the devs don't seem to know what they're doing when balancing this game
honestly ive been maining undercover for a month and i love it. A difficult weapon to use yes, but once you learn the weapon and some tricks it can be pretty handy. Just gotta smile through the pain. (especially for rollers. depending on the type youre dead before you can even think 😭 but thats just me)
Not gonna lie Chara, I think this may be one of your best-written and -edited videos thus far (super well done Logi on the editing!!). I already knew most of the things you covered, but you add so many really relevant details and comparisons (like comparing T-tek to Brella in the latest patch) that the faults with how Brella is being treated become super clear. The graphics Logi put in were super clean (I loved the use of the little weapon class symbols and how they colour-shifted between 2 and 3) and emphasised what was being pointed out in a scene super well. I think it's easy to slap in a shot of gameplay demonstrating what is being said, but you often put in effort to illustrate exactly what it is that makes what's happening on-screen significant/relevant. I really hope Brellas get fixed, it's a genuine shame that it feels like there's only ten and a half weapon classes :/
It's really a shame since Brellas are one of the most fun weapon classes to play once you get the hang of their mechanics, but the only one that's even remotely playable right now is Tenta Brella, and it's still buggy as all hell. I eagerly await the day when Splat Brella becomes playable again (a day which will probably never come at this rate)
This feels like such important discourse for the community to be having. The meta feels like it's revolved around shooters in some way or another for so long now... The most recent patch notes when you just look at what classes got nerds/buffs are honestly unbelievable
I really loved Brella, the original and Undercover. I mean, it's a _flippin' shotgun with a shield!!_ But when I try to use it in Splatoon 3... Well, let's just say my survival rate drops significantly.
Theres so many ways to buff and help brellas, lets choose undercover for example. A bit of dmg up Shield hp up If it comes to kits literwlly anything but reefslider They could also give unsercover a rework, seeing as you can shoot without shield by spam clicking ZR (it shoots slower) What if they gave undercover something like squeezer? Where spam clicking ZR would be a better kill tool or a better turf tool?
This video just made me sad. I never mained Brellas, but the few times I played them, I had a lot of fun. One of my most fondest clips of splatoon 2 was with the Sorella Brella. It makes me sad that the least we can do is just pray that brellas are buffed, and there’s always a chance that they never will be, especially with shooter privilege.
Brella doesn't get touched over the entirety of Splat 3's lifetime so far apart from bug fixes, meanwhile shooters, a weapon class that has always been in a good spot and consistent, is given class wide buffs for no reason. I wouldn't be surprised if they just abandoned brella completely because the netcode screws it over and that will never improve.
at this point I'm praying that the devs see how crappy the recycled brella is and thay decide to give splat brella 90 damage again as its clearly not going to make the weapon broken. Even if only when splatoon 4 happens this seems like the weapon's best bet
Currently I'm playing undercover to get Sheldon licenses for next season and I definitely feel like I've gotten killed in shots that shouldn't have broken my shield. Which is a shame because I actually really like the defending bit, when I jump to a teammate I can usually tank a shot that would have taken them out. Hell I get jump sniped all the time and I actually have a chance to survive with undercover. But it's attacks feel weaker than the Big Swig, which I played before it (maybe because you can attack faster with the Big Swig, even if the attacks are weak )
5-star S-rank Undercover player here! With Undercover you have to hard-commit to landing your direct shots. To reduce your TTK take advantage of your mines--they're an essential part of the kit. Approach from odd angles when possible to get a little more time to land those shots, and try not to tank--the shield is there to soak up a little damage from shots that you failed to dodge outright, not as a damage sponge in the conventional sense. Depending on the enemy comp you'll likely be switching between offensive and defensive play styles on the flip of a switch. Done right, you'll get a lot of splats, but they're just a happy side effect of your main goal--helping your team reach the tipping point by throwing a monkey wrench in the enemy plans at every opportunity, making things just enough more difficult that they flounder and fail. Any time you trip them up it gives the rest of the team a chance to sweep in and capitalize on it.
WAIT A DAMN MINUTE..... I was in one of those clips. I was using the weapon you get for when you beat story mode in Splatoon 2. i was team blue. And you were team yellow
It's like the devs want to pretend the brellas didnt exist...only using 'bug fixes' to say "Yes yes they're getting fixed dont worry their gonna be fixed" before adding another shooter buff...
As soon as I heard the ffxiv music, I remembered all the stuff I wanted to do today and Immediately stopped the video and hopped on. Thank you for unintentionally reminding me to do my shit..
Making me nostalgic with the best meta of splatoon 2 : variety Nah if splatoon 3's meta isn't changing to have more variety then I swear this game is going to be buried earlier than splatoon 2.
this is kind of what happened to machine, ppl started to complain about it being too "spammy" and stuff like that so Nintendo decided to nerf pretty much every aspect of the weapon besides it's damage and paint. It's still a good weapon and wasn't nerfed to the ground like brella but It's strange how ppl complain about the meta being overly dominated by shooters when Nintendo listened to ppl's complaints about machine and nerfed it a bunch.
Either Nintendo is being picky with who they listen to or shooters aren't getting enough complaints as well as the handicaps that they are long overdue for. Or a combination of both.
Shooters are too "normal" for a lot of people to notice or complain about being OP, I think. It's a normal gun shooting normal bullets in a normal straight line, it can't be OP, it's the basic baseline weapon that makes up a shooter game (it's even right there in the name!). It doesn't stand out, deaths to shooters blend together because there are so many of them. Died to a normal gun, eh, that's just how it be in shooter game. But getting killed by a sniper rifle or a swirly ink ball or a paint brush, those are distinct and easier to pick out and remember and may require different tactics to deal with. So when those get lots of kills, ah, I remember lots of that, must be broken.
@@ElecManEXE that's a probable reason I just don't know how ppl don't see it cuz shooters are so popular and have paint, quick kill time and better mobility than other weapons, guess that's how it goes
As a Splat Brella main, I only now find myself doing really well or unable to even do anything really. Most of the time I just do okayish. I appreciate you bringing attention to this though(Although I doubt anyone will see this).
Absolutely love how you presented this, Brellas just get no love in 3. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but was the BGM you used from FFXIV: Endwalker? It sounds so familiar!
The reasons you stated for why brella is such a cool and interesting design for a shield type weapon are the precise reason why Undercover existing is such a baffling design decision to me. Undercover just takes all the cool and interesting parts of brella and... Removes it in favor of mindlessly spamming the shield while doing very little damage.
i'm an ex-brella main, i currently am working on maining tri-stringer. i just wish that brella would have all the good things it needs - damage buffs, fixing that shield(nintendo already kinda did that, but GOD, i was playing brella last week, and it feels like nothing changed), and lord, 190p for special. thanks nintendo.
Great video 👍 It just sucks to see such a unique and diverse game like splatoon become dominated by the same boring shooters that every other game has. It's sad to see that the devs aren't helping to grow the game for the better by playing off it's strengths such as its unique movement and weapons (like brella), but that they instead prefer to follow the easy traditional shooter route.
It makes me sad that such a cool concept for a weapon that people looked forward to seeing was just over nerfed. I hope that sometime the devs will at least try to fix it.
I've been trying to learn this weapon recently and I don't think it's awful. You definitely have to be veeeery precise with your shots, but I don't mind that so much, I've used weapons where you have to be accurate before (I.e. the h3). To me the biggest issue is the inconsistency of the shield. There have been far too many times where I had the shield up on my screen for a good bit before someone fires at me, and I get instantly splatted. Which leaves the weapon in an odd position because to truly fix its biggest issue, they'd need to rework, or at least somehow fix, their online system. Which seems ... unlikely to me given nintendo's track record with their online
Knowing the context of that last song really irons in the feeling of "this game is being overrun by shooters" ahaha. Hope they swing away from that soon.
I love that Im not the only one who thinks brella is in a bad state right now, as a tentabrella main its sometimes suffering Its still a fun weapon though, despise some problems
Fix ideas First undo the nerf. Increase damage, special output, etc Next for the buff. What if we gave the shield a object damage resistance. Let’s say an object has 500hp and gets 3.25 shot by a charger. What if that same charger takes 4 shots to kill a brella with 500hp? Same damage, but could help with surviving things like crab or splatana. Or we increase its damage output and don’t add the hp resistance. It would be a killing machine that struggles against object damage heavy weapons
As much pain as it is to play, I will never put down vbrella. Played it since I started playing 2 and I refuse to let it go. It was always one of my main favorite weapons and it has been pure pain and lament to play ever since they did the damage nerf. I still don't have much faith in the devs, but I will not give up hope that someday it will be revived to even a sliver of its former glory. I will take *anything* at this point :')
This is literally me. No matter how much this weapon pisses me off, I just can't put it down for long. Ever since I picked it up in 2 I haven't been able to stay away from it. Praying we get the damage buff we've been waiting for in the new season this March.
