If real-life combat involves being shot by rocks and bushes and/or hiding behind a rock for the duration of firefights because stepping even one toe out of cover = death, then Arma is authentic as hell. I was hoping this video would have a segment titled "how to see the damned enemy before he blows your face off with one shot from 100m away."

Mmm and when you try to shoot an enemy that is standing in the open while you are fully rested laying down in cover behind a rock holding breath and aiming carefully with sight on center mass at 100m distance. Even then the enemy just shoots back and kill you before you are able to kill him... The weapon you are equipped with seems to be so horribly inaccurate that you must unload a half a magazine at them while they pick you of with one shot one kill even while in cover. (this is in the campaign at beginning of the game).

Coming from BF3 and ArmA 2 to ArmA 3 I don't see the point of "The controls are too hard". Mate it took me 5 exact minutes to get hold of all the controls. And I am glad that we are given more stances to move through which makes life much easier than the clunky ArmA 2. But on the other hand I'm glad we don't have the community of the other shooters in this game since what I believe is the community makes ArmA an ArmA not the game itself.

sorry i actually missed out the most important word "up" Turn your textures up, it will not affect your FPS hardly at all. makes no difference for me between low to high settings ultra does seem to slow it down but barely noticeable. any way higher textures means readable compass :D

Arma is so complex and can be really tedious/confusing/overwhelming at first but it is the most rewarding game on earth to learn. Literally never had such a fun/good experience in anything.

Haha I installed 3 days ago, I played Xbox games before then. Stealth, bf1, sniper games all on hardcore,and play ghost recon on full insane mode no tags etc, and thought I was pretty good and a mil sim would be a doddle as don’t mind taking my time. Oh wasn’t I wrong I’ve never been so happy and stressed out at the same time before Arma, I just plugged in my Xbox one s controller to my laptop and thought I’d be on my merry way to becoming a prolific sniper. I was soo wrong!, I still can’t figure it out as controls are crazy complicated and the training is as vague as a murder suspect haha. Hopefully il be slaying it along with the rest soon enough. ArmA is one of those games where alot of people will call it shit because you have be tactical and controls have a learning curve. After all, it's not a game where you jump into a 5-10 minutes match to get the most kills. I also admire it's community of hardcore players for ArmA, their devotion to the game, leading squads like it was the real shit and all, really impressive imo.

I bought Arma 3 and still have to give it a real try, even thought about buy a joystick for the helicopter and planes before I gave it another go. But it's most because I have a shitty PC and net. Hence the downfall of a lot of gamers, just can't afford the quality. One day Arma, one day.

Agil Mills Know what you mean, tho ArmA is more heavy on processors than GPUs. You can run ArmA with a computer/laptop that has a decent CPU like i3 or higher while still having some pretty visuals. But multiplayer would be lag hell as the servers has framerates them selfs outside of the game. The game is best enjoyed on a decent computer, unfortunately. At least as far as Multiplayer goes.

Well yeah, but a variable power scope would be much more useful. Back in the distant past before I became and old dude, I had an AR-15A2 and a CAR-15 carbine, both original Colt. The CAR was incredibly old, a pre-A1 version btw. I had an assortment of scopes for them, but I started with a Colt Nam style 3x on the CAR but also had a Bushnell 1.5x5 as well. The A2 wound up with a 3x9 power scope wiht a 40mm lens. I usually kept it on 4x while "on manuvers" with friends. Max effective range was about 300m though, and actually max practical effective was about 200, meaning it was alot harder at 300.

3rd person is fine, you can see he switches to 1st for actual firefights or room clearing, and uses 3rd person for a better view while running out in the open.

it is fine if youre playing against AI, in PVP 3rd person is just straight up bs, you can sit behind a wall and just angle your camera to see everything around you with no risk.

Yeah! Talking about authentism but running around in 3rd person. 3rd person should just be used for nice screen shots (A colon of armored vehicles driving into the Sunrisimg, being in a steamy forest with the unit while the chopper is landing etc.)

And each & every chunk of a year there are Updates which causes me to have to re-map every single one of hundreds of controls because I`m a lefty. After various hours re-mapping and testing various profiles (with a myriad of mapping conflicts [all having to be sorted out and attempted to be remembered; or scribbled or/& typed out]) , and during a year of trying, I now find it easier to delete all controls, and then just map the basic ones I really absolutely need. And because of the issues from such frustrating re-mapping (for the game, the vehicles & the helicopter & planes [I buy all DLC], I still have to make it through boot camp training missions. Lol. Meanwhile, on one CS:GO weapon alone I have over 15,000 kills.

My favorite moment in gaming ever came from the Arma 3 campaign. It was the segment where the paratroopers attacked your squad, and unfortunately for me my squad had mostly died a while before the paratroopers even showed up. So the rest of my squad dies and I'm left alone with the last hostile: an enemy medic that I couldn't locate to save my life. So I had to slowly crawl my way up the hill until I was far enough away to be out of his range, barely escaping by the skin of my teeth. In that moment, I felt like a genuine soldier fighting for their survival. I had all this gear, at least 100 spare bullets to waste, and more than enough medkits; but I still felt vulnerable and weak compared to an enemy just as vulnerable and weak. Something as simple as your position on the map determines your survival; just like war.

I've been a fan of series since Operation Flashpoint came out. It gives us guys/gals who served in the Military the opportunity to dust of all the neato stuff we picked up while we were still in and use it to our advantage. None of this running around and spray n pray BS. Games that allow you to succeed by outwitting your adversaries in general are pretty awesome. Especially since I can't spend hours upon hours camped out in front of the console becoming a FPS god since I have other things to do like to go to work, have a life, etc.

I like how ArmA and the community around it plus the expienced guys you play with makes you a better person. I so enjoy the absence of a toxic community... Played the game 40 hours so far (mostly editing btw lol) and feel already like i served in the army. (never did btw...) Started to clean my room, being polite to me and other persons. I love that game altought i'm a straight pacifist! Veteran Noob out.

All of your tips could easily be modified to fit other fps titles. Just as much thinking can go into other fps games as Arma as well. Lastly you mention "Pro Team" I wasn't aware there was any major competitive Arma tournaments.

Ian C. If you had read my comment more precisely you would have noticed I put quotation marks around "Pro Team" indicating that the producer of this video used those exact words. Pro which is short for Professional stands for someone who gets paid to do a certain job. So "Pro Team" would indicate that there are professional teams that get paid to play ARMA either by sponsors, pvp, or tournaments. In my comment I said I was not aware these "Pro Teams" existed. GG.

Another definition of "professional" is "someone who has a lot of experience or skill in a particular job or activity", which means being on a "pro team" in a video game can just mean that the team has "a lot of experience or skill". So no, a pro team would NOT indicate that there are professional teams that get paid... it just means that the team is good at what they do and know how to be effective. And by the way "FightingFalco", I knew you said that you weren't aware of "pro teams" that go into tournaments, which is why I replied with my comment saying "being a team doesn't require you to be in tournaments or PvP", because to my knowledge as well, there aren't any official Arma tournaments

I've just bought this game on the steam sale. I can wait to start streaming it. Been streaming some pubg recently and realise now why arma 3 is so much better than pubg. Pubg is a crossover between a standard fps and arma. Whereas arma is a proper simulation, where you learn how to fire a gun properly.

Cristian Sosa But you can imagine pain, because you know it well. You can imagine injuries if you've been injured. And you certainly can have a full-body INTENSE DESIRE to not die in a video game, if you imagine that it is really going on. Same for reading a book that makes your heart race in fear if you let yourself get into it. Arma contains so many details needed to survive in real life that it can get incredibly intense (I've never played it, only watched it, and it's still very intense).

Raven Singularity Well I used to play lots and lots of ArmA (the first one) with my buddies from highschool, and played some ArmA II (not so much) and currently playing ArmA III, not to be a douche but I know right the game. Even if the character can get hurt pretty much like in real life, you don't feel any of it, therefore you don't care as much. Yea, it's annoying to have to crawl all over the place because somebody kneecapped you, but you won't be screaming of pain because of it, or bleeding to death. A game can only go so far in simulating war.

My main problem with arma 3 is the body armor system on the ai. The weird twitch the ai does when shot doesn't actually mess up their aim, so while your trying to whittle down their hp cuz body armor, your getting pelted with accurate fire from an enemy tanking your 7.62s. I understand that body armor is a thing in real life, but at a certain point it just feels like extra health for the enemy, while they are able to hit the 2 inch wide face hitbox that isn't covered in steel plate to kill you instantly. I understand mods can fix this, but a lot of coop/Zeus servers don't include them.

The timing and being patient when shooting mid to long range is no joke. It can be a game over type of deal if you slip up and crack a shot at something to soon. There was one time I was playing as a marksman in a online match alone in Combat Patrol on Tanoa, I was already pretty invested in the game and understood the AI. I was South of Georgetown and was taking out a HVT. I would say I was 500 maybe 600 meters away? So in terms of distance it was the norm for a marksman. I wasn't spotted yet but I was able to spot the officer and mentally noted the path the officer was taking. After like 30 mins, I pop one shot while he was moving and hit him in the head. I know I score a headshot because usually for a 5.56, you sometimes have to get a shot above the torso to get a straight kill (unless they don't have any body armor or cover). That was probably one of my best marksman plays in Arma because I only shot one bullet and never got engaged by patrols. So being timely proficient and studying your targets can be a very awarding experience.

Wouldn't really suggest doing any kind of section, fireteam or squad leading with the team's machinegun. You typically need to sit down in one place and hose down the enemy section, which reduces your situational awareness and your ability to command your team. I typically carry extra ammunition for the AR or MG and let him do the work for me so that I can spot targets and command the rest of the section

1 more problem with going from other shooters to "realistic" shooters is that people decide to lay down on the ground once they start getting shot at... ending up deader than dead with barely any shots fired and most likely missing anyway

arma 3 is really fun I've started to play it with 3 others and we play wasteland it's really cool but the optimization is really bad now I don't have a beast pc but looking at the specs I should be able to run it and I can bit it's that type of game that if your lagging and you turn your graphics lower it most likely won't do shit

It's very hit and miss when it comes to the point of 3rd person. Some say it is useful as it fills that void between real world awareness and virtual awareness. Personally, I locked the game to stay in first person.

That brings in a true sense of realism, that's how the vet's play. I've played ArmA since cold war assault. I'm no vet or professional at the ArmA series, but I do fairly well. I know when and when not to shoot, how to take advantage of the games mechanics. Being ONLY in first person, brings you ArmA's truest of realism in that sense. But doesn't mean your a noob for using third person, using third person just shows you are using the mechanics to your advantage.

While in CoD/BF you can rush the enemy and still murder the bloody hell out of them. ArmA, it's a lot harder to do that. In BF/CoD you can rush 5+ people and sometimes walk away with little to no scratches. Do that on ArmA you are more than likely to be walking away (If your fast enough) with a missing arm or leg while your character is moaning from being nearly dead. ArmA is harder than BF/CoD can ever be, I run 15FPS on my POS eMachines on BF (20-25 on ArmA depending on the map)

Actually bud, you can take down full sized buildings. You must of never tried hard enough or tried at all (If you have even played this game.) Bf3-4 are amazing games, i will not sell them short since i am in line for BF4 beta, but I will also not sell amra 3 short. It has more realistic features than CoD or BF have to offer in one way or another. Some aspects from both games give different realism, that's the difference between the two games. ArmA is meant to be tactical and smart.

Yeah, I'm with FrostyBowman. Then again, the ignorance of these internet kids never stops to amaze me. Furthermore, you are comparing 2 completely diferent types of games. COD and BF are common shooters. They don't simulate SHIT! ARMA III is the ultimate army simulator. And finally, the cherry on top of that FABULOUS comment of yours: in ARMA III you can destroy EVERYTHING! In BF4 you can demolish a skyscraper, but only that one. Not the entire map. Now I'll go do some productive shit.

What effects Arma the most is processor speed, your CPU. if you decide to get Arma and you have more than one core on your comp i highly recommend getting the Arma 2 Launcher by Spirited Machine. with that you can tell the game there are more cores it can use and how much memory is available for use. decent graphics card and a strong cpu itll play fine. i have a dual core clocked at 2.3ghz and a pretty jacked up ATI Radeon 5450.

Games are designed for entertainment. Not every game is the same, some are more fast pace and unrealistic, so that the player can enjoy it more without have to worry about things like, things like Bullet drop or hit reaction, But then there are some games like Arma 3 that try to be realistic, there not saying this is the equivalent of real life, there just implementing as much realism as they can, SO next time you have a problem with a game, don't bitch about it, just play a different one.

Arma 3 is to be realistic, that is why Commander mode is not implemented in it. In real-life you can't control the battlefield from a single dynamic map. Every game has it's own engine. Frostbite engine does not have fully dynamic shadows or light, and there is parralax mapping, tesselation, or displacement mapping. Plus the Frostbite Engine is locked to only for DICE to use it, not other developers.

Arma is a war simulator and in real life you dont have a commander that can issue a command and have the whole army receive it, that's what the chain of command is for. The Frostbite engine is made for a different purpose than Armas which is designed for large expansive terrain...also there's no way of proving Frostbite is the most sophisticated engine because it doesn't have a map or sandbox editor available to the public to compare

I personally love the battlefield franchise. I watched this video because I heard that arma is the most realistic of any shooter. Listening to the tips he was giving I found I naturally do all of that in battlefield. Because of this I'm actually pretty good ( not perfect ). Battlefield just makes for more cinematic and adrenalin filled moments more often. I'm not putting anyone down. What you choose to play is based on your preference.

Arma has destructible environments though... true you can't blow a hole in the wall with 1 tank shell but the buildings will collapse after a few rounds. Plus it's not like all of Battlefields buildings react the same way in BF3 either I remember playing BF3 after BF:BC2 and I was so excited about the frostbit 2.5 engine and what I found was LESS destructibility and destruction physics than before. Overall I'd say they have about the same destructibility in total.

Do you think those elements are the most important in simulating a battlefield? Also ArmA has destructible environnement. Houses crash, glass breaks, trees fall/react to bullets. I mean no offence but you are the kind of guy coming to ArmA complaining about it being unrealistic because not able to run around with a SAW/"light 50" in your hands (+ three pouches/mags), a SMAW (+2 rockets) in your back, and an M9 in the holster (+ 6 mags)... If you like BF that's ok. Just be serious please.

True, but legitimate simulators, like you said, need tons of stuff to get. personally, I don't have that, and most don't, so I just count it out. But really things that arma players nitpick about saying it's so realistic, and go both ways. So Arma is realistic because your fun wobbles after running? Well your character still teleports into his vehicle when you tell him to get in. Plus, Battlefiled has destructible environments. Arma does not. Personally, Arma just isn't that amazing.

Alright first of all: @eeprilelina, don't feed the troll, look at his name. Secondly: When you say Something 1> Something 2 The > indicates that Something 1 is over/bigger/better/whatever than Something 2. @Electrify111, you can't really say ARMA 3 is better since both games are totally different. CoD is an arcade game and Arma 3 is a realistic simulator. In this case, Battlefield 4/3 would be a Realistic Arcade First Person Shooter. So honestly there's no better, it's just what you prefer.

Battlefield 4 is very unrealistic. Just because you can destroy an entire skyscraper says nothing on the realism of the game. When you play and get shot and are about to die you simply run away and stay away from the fight and your wounds will amazingly heal. If battlefield is realistic you would die of blood loss or simply because you were shot! Get your facts right before you try to be clever against Arma 2 which is dubbed "The most realistic military simulator available"

Well yes, but that's because CoD is a broken game, with poor physics and poor combat. Sometimes Cod's realism DOES make sense, like a headshot with all weapons, or blindfiring decreasing accuracy. Battlefield is a much more realistic game however, with a better physics engine although the combat with guns can be unrealistic at times, like several bullets to the center of mass. It is more realistic than CoD but I still wouldn't classify it as a 'realistic' game. Maybe semi-realistic like Vegas 2.

It depends on the player. If you prefer a very realistic game that is the closest thing you can get to real war you play Arma, but if you want a game that has some realistic things in it, but still isn't a military sim you play Battlefield. I enjoy Arma every once in a while, but for me it gets boring after an hour or two. I prefer battlefield simply because it takes more skill than CoD, but it still is fairly fast pace. It also has some pretty decent sized maps. They're both fun games though.

well if you mean, bf4 is more realistic than arma 3... then tell me one: how the fuck can a soldier be alive, when you shoot him with a pistol, like m1911, with one shot in the head and he only have to throw a medpack next to him and he heals up in seconds? or get shot in the chest and run away like nothing happens? well, in arma you´re dead with an headshot and you must bandage little wounds, a tank is destroyed with one rocket and a soldier can´t run, if hes wounded. nothing more to say.

Well based off Battlefield 3 here is the "Realism" - Unlocking weapons. Like what the hell is that, in real life your assigned a weapon. - Out of bounds areas, so you're telling me that soldiers fight in a certain area and once they get back they have 10 seconds to get back into the battle? - A sniper shot to the chest won't kill you? P.S. You can't blow up every skyscraper.. only the ones with a flag on it. You know how much CPU usage it would take to destroy every single sky scraper?

CoD: fully arcade game Battlefield: arcade + realistic Arma: realistic Of course this is my opinion and theres people who dont think the same. and being more realistic doesnt make a "better" game because games are for fun and theres going to be EVER little kids and fanboys insulting games he doesnt like or even he doesnt even played it.

Its kind of intereseting to see how a small company as Bohemia with a low bueget as well as publicity makes such a high quality game ! I have never played Arma and I am considering to buy Arma 3 but I highly appreciate games with tactics and realism at the core of their gameplays. Could anyone please give me more info of how not to be a noob once I have Arma 3. I do feel there is a lot I have to know in order to play decently

Though I am a fan of both shooters, I must correct you on some things. YOU do not blow up the sky-scraper. it falls down on its own as a part of levelution. Also, the battlefield games are not the most realistic (and they aren't trying to be). It is designed to be a fast paced FPS shooter. They are both going to be great games I imagine, but they aren't designed to compete, ArmA III is a military simulator whilst Battlefield 4 will be a FPS shooter.

Can you tow a car to a chopper/another car? Use a bicycle? Swimming underwater? Just because battlefield brings back destruction, it doesnt mean its more realistic. Arma has so many features which makes it a very nice simulator. I love BF, will probably buy BF4 too but Arma is simply a whole different genre and it cannot be compared to COD/BF etc. Anyhow your name tells me that you're an typical BF3 fanboy so yeah I'm feeding the troll now, however I target others who might think the same like u

Battelfield sort of lost it’s feeling in version 3; everything is now arkade, predictable, closed-in and simply rather boring even if skyscrapers can come down... In Arma you have huge landscapes and only you lack of creativity can basically stop you from having endless of fun. Since it can be, IF YOU CHOOSE, editorbased, you can create you own user made missions, with or without humans or jus AI. You can be commander for huge armys or just a small special mission task force.

Two more things I thought of after posting the other comment: Suppressing fire actually does something in this game, the sooner you start firing back at your enemy the better your chances are that they just start running away fearing to get shot by you. If you encounter enemies, either advance and go offensive or fall back, take cover and go defensive. Use weapons which are suited for you situation, a sniper sytem won't help you at close range for instance.

I think this video is sufficiently explaining most things that are important for playing alone and with a single group, however I believe that there are two things missing: Always look around you to maintain a high level of situational awareness towards all directions, if you're in a group you can split that up, so that one guy covers the front, one guy the back and so on while moving around. Cover is always better than concealment while in combat. both points were partially missed at 0:50 btw.

Here is how to not play like a noob. DO what you would do in real life. Would you walk in the open knowing you can get shot? Would you skyline on a hill knowing you'll be spotted? Would you waste all your mags in a few minutes knowing you won't be able to get a ammo drop/rearm. The great thing about a simulator is that it is meant to be similar to real life unlike other FPS. So just play it smart guys!

I lone wolf a lot in arma 3. And I have a 6 day life span on a stratis wasteland server. Sometimes I feel that being in a squad draws more attentions as when you are alone you can sneak up on the enemy, take them out silently with a silenced pistol and bag their gear and walk away. This I know, because this I have done.

The most realistic military shooter of all times. Of course. unlimited sprinting, highly trained soldiers firing their weapons on full auto by default. Factions using the completely wrong weapons. Enemies taking 10+ rounds to take down...yes yes, so realistic. Not to mention that ArmA 3 will be out in 6 days from now.

I played BC2 for 1700h,I played BF3 for 1100h,I played until now Arma3 beta for 300h and I can tell you guys Arma3 has not enemies,Arma3 is a simulation and all others are crap! It is the same as someone is saying that Collin McRae(1,2,3,4,...) is a simulation,nope,Richard Burns Rally is the only rally simulation we have for almost 10 years now!

there is jets and tanks, but the the full version hasnt come out, there is only alpha and beta, the full version comes out in a few days, plus the map is 2 times bigger than the bf4 and bf3 or even bigger than GTA5s map, and look up arma 3 map, there will be a comparison of the one in alpha and beta , comparing to the full version.

Of course you can buy simulators. It's a matter of how well the specific simulator follows reality. Using home PCs, you might like to check out the simulators from DCS. And if you're talking about true simulators, you're wrong there too. It just takes a crapload of cash and lots of friends to run the hardware while you play it.
