HAHAHA I actually searched that up before building my first years ago. I'll never forget searching for "upgrade ram download" and "unlock more ram program" on Yahoo when Yahoo was a thing cx
If you were stranded on a deserted island would you rather have 1. Food and Shelter 2. Water 3. A swiss army knife that hopefully has a phillips head screwdriver
The worst part is a lot of what he did was wrong but almost everything he said was wrong. If he just shut up, or dubbed in narration later, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad. Some of the mistakes he made were fine, like not installing the cpu until the mobo was installed, but the verbal diarrhea of blatantly wrong information is why he got, and deserved to get, roasted so bad.
Okay to be fair most prebuilts have crappy power supplies, I had an HP Prebuilt with an RX 480 and only a 300w PSU. And most prebuilts have crappy airflow as well
Junfeng Chen no not really my friend asked me what would be a good PC and I told him I’d build him one because it’s the best value but he didn’t trust me and bought an HP prebuilt... I checked it out and told him it was good but in reality it was literally one of the worst gaming prebuilts ever. Just build a PC
I followed the Verge's guide, and I think you guys are just being too picky. My computer works great. Edit: My computer exploded after I typed this comment.
@@carrasco9590 but, how james spelled it was right on the first part... he just used there instead of their but the *majority of the fucking internet spells like this*
Simplify it for new PC builders? Bruh, people can learn what the right parts are. I'm building my first PC and I know fully well what the IO shield is and what a socket is. If you are going to claim it's a tutorial in ANY extent, use the correct terminology. You would want to know the correct part terms in any other circumstance like working on a vehicle.
Maggle nope, the end product looks different than how he build it, some technician probably made it for him because Verges one just burned or something like that
The reviewer focused on the 'protecting yourself' quote without mentioning that it's a rubber band and not an antistatic wristband. I don't know much but it sort or proves the point that its easy to mess up. The reviewer being critical of a person doing something wrong while also getting something wrong himself. Humans are mad ha
@@joshualong7212 edidtor must have took wrong view too because starting with how lightheaded he holds all the hardware - wtf? it is pretty expensive not even mentioning that nearly all electronics are pretty fragile. I dam shocked watching his shaking hands with stuff
Some people call power supply’s or power strips a brick but maybe he’s talking about the computer he’s trying to building,...after he does the software portion. imagine the verge doing a how to update your gpu bios video 🧱 😂
Or talking to that one kid that just because his parents know a lot about something they think they’re also knowledgeable on the subject. “My dad’s a dentist so I totally know how to fix cavities”
it actually got removed a couple days after people posted their response videos haha it wasn't removed that recently. I think like a couple days after they released their video.
Hes basically the 16 yo that installed a gpu ONCE and told everyone:"yeah,im a pro,i built atleast 15 high end gaming pc's." Dear lord i just came back to this one year later and find over 700 likes and a whole ass "ok" chain in the replies.damn i wish i was still that funny.
I dont know why he is getting hate... like i followed it step by step and now like i have a great fireplace to warm up my hands and roast marshmallows its pretty nice
Sucks I only game my mother the parts to be bought for computer because I can't leave my house because restrictions of covid, it finally arrived and I love it, but was disappointed to at least not in there to observe or build
I just discovered half an hour ago that this "tutorial" ever existed and I've already dedicated myself to watch every possible reaction video to this. Oh and last time I've tinkered with a pc was like 20 years ago in the age of Celerons and what not, so not much experience here but I still cringe watching this. This is beautiful
Mike The Potato me too. It’s so amazing. This also got me subbed to some awesome PC channels I never knew existed and now I’m interested in looking into building my own PC (Not with The Verge’s video)
The biggest cringe in Verge's video was missed here... the radiator fan screws being used to connect the rad to the case, and drilled down through the radiator. You can laugh at everything else because it's just stupid mistakes that, worst case, can make the computer run less than optimal. Most are just, "haha, this guy's such an idiot" moments. The radiator install? He straight up guided people on how to completely ruin their AIO. Like, beyond repair, they'd have to go out and buy a new one. That's borderline criminal.
I watched BitWit’s reaction, and I’ve been watching as many as I can find 😂 I saw a video of the guy in the video crying about it while gaming with some friend too. Gold
They purposely titled the video “How we built a $2000 custom gaming pc” and not “How to build a custom gaming pc” because they knew what they were doing was completely wrong
"So, how do we build a custom gaming PC? Well, it's not impossible to build your own Windows desktop. In fact, it's a great way to learn about what makes most computers tick. Building your own desktop is a great way to ensure you'll have a computer that perfectly suits your current (and future) needs. Here, Stefan Etienne shows us how to build your own gaming desktop." "Here, Stefan Etienne shows us how to build YOUR OWN gaming desktop" explain please i'm so eager to hear what you'll say.
gris186 it happened also to me with the io shield but once I also cut my fingers while delidding my old 4690k and now I’m dead since I lost 100% of my blood
@@SuperDud3ed I've never heard anyone call a power supply that goes inside a computer a brick, only the power adaptors that convert AC to DC for laptops and consoles and such. There is a huge difference between a power adaptor "brick" and a power supply. Calling them a brick is more of a slang term though so, it isn't well defined and gets the points across so yeah it doesn't matter.
The guy who is building the PC looks exactly like someone my grandma would call for tech support when realizing she has no idea what he's talking about and then calls me instead
Yeah haha what a moron. Not even mentioning HOW he applied it. Even a new pc builder with little to no experience but with common sense wouldn't make these mistakes lmao
11:30 "I'm playing LoL, It's one of my favorite games" 11:36 "I'm not doing so well because I'm distracted" 13:10 ** Compulsive Q spamming for no fucking reason ** Yeah, I see, you're a pro... Kekw
It might seem like this guy is going harsh on him, but he really isn't. That video needs to be called out. It's not good for a channel that big to be spreading that horrible of information. Imagine if someone was trying to learn how to build a computer and used that video as a reference, they would be fucked.
@@plumbob109 in my opinion... this one is either a preference thing or depends on your set of components.. for an AIO Watercooler i prefer to do everything in the case. (If it is possible) besides that.. EVERYTHING IN THIS GUYS VIDEO WAS HORRIBLE... A pain in the ass to watch. I mean how...how wtf..
Your absolutely right. I’m getting into my first build soon but before I buy anything I’m looking at a lot of mistakes people make and I’m glad I found this video before the other one lmao
On his twitter his response was 'If people cared as much about toxic gamer communities as they do about thermal paste..." . How the Verge which is usually good content hasn't fired this guy off of his bad past work and blaming reactions on toxicity and racism, I don't know. I reported this as being false and misleading video because it is way to dangerous to have a reputable name like The Verge and this as a guide on how to build.
*crash my car into a schoolbus* "wow if only the people criticizing my driving cared this much about hunger in Africa" holy shit you can literally bring up any subject that is worse than the mistakes you do in life and excuse yourself from your fuck ups no matter how bad
Man, I would not be surprised if the verge did this on purpose just to call everyone who disagree with them toxic and racist. Just as I say on another video about the same isue, they and other websites are known for making sjw content and having extreme sjw views. Just the fact that they did not take the video down, even knowing that it have a lot of mistakes and that they disable comments and like ratio, plus the guy's reply about toxic gamers proves that there is an interest in them to play the victim card. As I said on that other tech channel that was also trolling them: Don't get surprised if they accuse the tech tubers of being racist and bullies and claim something like: "all criticism against them is hate spech made by an angry mob, bots or gamer gate.." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
WolvenSpectre He originally stated it backwards as well, guess he fixed it because I swear the tweet I saw said "if people cared as much about thermal paste as they do toxic gaming communities" Naturally a couple noticed right away he had his attempted jab assbackwards and corrected him.
As a future pc builder (building my first Gaming PC sometime this November) I am happy to see that the bar can go so, so very low. Takes a bit of the pressure off 😁
As someone who has built his own PC for the last 15 plus years it is really easy and very simple hard part is trouble shooting defective parts If you have never done that before check out Jayz2cents for a good guide on how to build. I also build most of my pc outside the case then transfer it to the case once finished gives me more room and less cramped when setting the GPU and other parts.
"now unfortunately, it looks like this CPU just didn't make it and that's a shame, but it happens sometimes, it's just a risk you're taking when you open up a CPU" when he smeared liquid metal all over it
The Verge HR - "We need some diversity in our videos" Manager - "Get it done" Video Project leader - "Well, we know about 1 black guy, but he is a car mechanical engineer and knows nothing about computers" Manager - "Did I hear "engineer"? What are you waiting for, make him do it"
@Illidan Stormrage I think nobody can be intelligent and honest and racist at the same time. These 3 don't add up. Swap racism for flat earth and the equation breaks for the same reason. 200 000 years ago (roughly) we split off from the neanderthal and other relatives and we are part of the gene pool of the earth, 98% dna similar to chimps, if we will draw a line about some fractions of percentiles of melanin in each other's skin, we are mad crazy, like depending on specificity, there are 7.5 billion individual "races" by DNA.
Sadly a lot of people actually believe that a rubber band functions as an anti static bracelet. Or the ones that believe that wireless anti static bracelets work. xD
Please stop talking shit, that is not how the current works. First of all the bracelet is not connected to the ground so it won't protect you from a potential discharge. Second of all the only discharge that coud happened is form the cappacitors in your power source(that you don't have access to) but that won't kill you because the discharge of current it's for a verry short period of time. The only danger in this building pc video is his own stupidity. Thinking that a piece of rubber on your arm will save your live is just mind blowing!
This video was made exclusively to make money with no care given about the people that will be scammed by it, no care at all about spreading misinformation and potentially ruining peoples first building experience. Absolutely toxic.
The real thing about this video is The Verge shut it down, and blamed it on toxic gaming communities. When in fact, they wouldn't admit to instructing people on how to build a sitting fire hazard in their home...
That anyone even follows then and believe what they say, same goes for Buzzfeed, actually terrifies me, because it proves how many people are so incredibly ignorant and stupid. And these people are loyal sheep and will attack anyone who goes against them... It's scary, especially when the internet ignorant media takes them seriously and attack innocent internet profiles.
"I can't even make fun of this guy anymore." The strongest line I've heard in this video IMO. I've been rewatching this video lately just for this line.
Man, he built a worse computer than Lyle from Bitwit did... But seriously.. you cant blame this guy totally! they must of ask around the office if someone wanted to build a pc on youtube and handed him a script to read. what i want to know is why no on did any research on this... damn, the instruction booklet that came with motherboard has better advice than this video.
It must be, I mean, If I remember correctly, Corsair did have a case that require the use of an alan key to open its side glass panel so the one writing the script must have thought that the alan key is a required tool for Corsair's, if not all, cases.
Actually if you look closely, he didn't even insert the 1080 in the pcie slot properly, the card went above the slot lol :D So I guess he had to use the integrated intel graphics as his 1080 wasnt working, and only LoL would run smooth enough for the vid on the intel graphics :D
I am not going to lie. This is the first video of yours that I have watched. Your call out on his LoL play in the middle of this react watch was hilarious! Just for that I have subscribed.
Now I live in constant fear of my power supply coming into contact with the case of my computer, shorting out and electrocuting me through the USB cable on my keyboard. What other hidden terrors lie inside my PC?!?! Help me, The Verge!
@DG_Lucifer I mean yes, obviously you can do it. But if you show this method in a tutorial video, you're just straight stupid. He even installed the GPU before the CPU. He installed every component in the wrong order in terms of easiness.
I think this would've flew totally under the radar if they guy just didn't speak, because what he is saying makes way less sense than what he's actually doing
