I live in Guangzhou China, there is a huge pearl market near me. So I’m constantly buying a string of pearls. Making a bracelets or earrings or rings for myself at the jewelry shop. Prices are crazy low. But I’m buying what I like (luster, shape and the shade are important to me). I feel lucky to have the opportunity to be buying here at the market where most pearls are from. 😊

@@unknownangel3101 It makes me sad too…Especially knowing that pearl farming is so good for the oysters and for the ecology around them. Oysters actually live longer on pearl farms because they’re safe from predators!

I picked from a tank and had them opened and one had a Beautiful Black pearl in it. Not dyed but dug right out of the Oyster. So what about that?

There are factories in China that insert the pearls into the baby shells. They are then dropped into a chemical solution that causes them to constrict and die. It then appears as though a pearl is being harvested when it is opened in front of the customer. This is a very old gimmick that has been going on for decades. The pearl you received was indeed dyed before it was inserted into the shell. This is covered in the video :)

I bought a Mikimoto Blue Lagoon necklace back in about the early 1990's from a jeweler. I'm pretty sure they're 15 inch not 16 inch. (?). 8mm pearls.I know nothing about them other than they are beautiful and a bit heavy.

Thank you so much for your information 😊 I am glad to see that the pub is finally getting a better understanding of how we culture pearls. I have know for a long time that we intriduce a round base into the mollusk and the mollusk adds the nacre layers. I have only SUPPOSED that the grading system has a bit to do with the length of time/layers of nacre formula of that lot of cultured pearls. Excellent video! ❤

I've purchased and began collecting honora pearls. Love the color variations. I've been told the are cultured. Not glass etc. Are these a decent investment? Spent a little to get them. I think a good price

I wondered how the RU-vid channels really got their pearls. I was recommended a channel that I've been watching and thinking about ordering some pearls. I got recommended pearl paradise channel that's how I ended up on this one. I'll not be buying any from those channels. I'll stick to my favorite jewelry stores. Thanks for the info.

Hi! Is nacre formed around an irritant, like a grain of sand, secreted over and over again, eventually resulting in a pearl? Thank you 🪷
@JewelsoftheTrade
@JewelsoftheTrade Год назад
That’s a great question! If you fast-forward to 10:53 in this video, Jeremy explains the answer in-depth. But, to put it simply, pearls do not form around a grain of sand. Pearl formation starts with the displacement of epithelial cells inside the mollusk.
