Even if you're a longtime Mac user, you sometimes lose where you've just saved something. Apple has the solution -- and another solution, and another, and another...

I have a very well-organized forlder tree, which serves me very well across Mac, Windows, and Linux. I keep my path bar showing on all platforms to help keep me oriented. 👍

I automate as much of it as I can. When I start a new 58keys episode, for instance, I run a shortcut that creates -- hang on, let me count -- one main and four subfolders, plus a blank script. Then within that, I am really disciplined. Any screen grab, for instance, goes into a folder that isn't just called "Stills", it's the production number of the episode too. So just now I put one into a folder called "259 Stills". And I renamed that image "259 STILL OmniFocus icon". I can end up with sixty or more separate files per episode and I will laboriously label them all -- because it makes producing the episode vastly faster and more efficient. Go organisation!

Opened the Recent in the NEW iMac in Finder....and I can tell everything has been transferred from the iCloud. Recent can be and often is a life saver!

That's brilliant. How are you finding your glorious new pink iMac? I'm quite envious.

@@WilliamGallagher Either I know more than I thought or Apple has made this easier to unbox, set up, and transfer and on and on. And it is GORGEOUS!

I'll throw you a curly one William, if I may? As a humble Parish Clerk I am required to store documents by month and by financial year (for all eternity it seems). Most sorting on the Mac (Finder, Numbers etc) cannot cope with starting a year in April. So I get around it by numbering folders and files (1 being April, 2 May etc etc). Solves the problem but is there a more elegant way hidden somewhere in a darkened alleyway of the OS?

Not in the OS but I would look at the app Hazel. Without question it can automatically create folders and move things into them by date. What I’m not sure about is the naming. When I’ve done it, it’s named them “January 2024” or something. But Hazel is ace, I have hopes it can do everything you need. Would you let me know how you get on with Thai to any other solution you find?
