Every craigslist bike ever Brand new top end less than 3 hours on it changed air filter and oil every ride always babied the bike never abused never ever had a single problem. Shows up for bike: is clapped, leaking oil, blown, and won’t start

Don’t forget about the paperwork. Is the title in the sellers name or not. Clean title or salvage. Is the registration current or outstanding.

I just bought a 2002 yz85 for 800. I put a new top end and fork seals. I always buy cheap bikes for my kids and spend a week fixing them to be like new. I was nervous when I pulled the cylinder because you never know if the crank is good. Even then it would have still been a good deal. I thought the bike was going to be clapped but after stripping it down it was surprisingly in good shape. I am going to have to replace the bearing that the shock connects to be it isnt to bad right now. All other bearings were good.

Wish I woulda known this last year lol, I got a “perfect” 250f and ended up having to rebuild the carb, get new tires, new chain and coggs, and a new top end

new tires and new chain is obvious man nd is usually replaced with a new bike and a bike still having an carb may be some older so no surprise its not spotless

You should have been able to spot all of those things when you inspected the bike except the top end. I dont waste my time with 250's. They are extremely high strung motors. 450s can be as well but tend to hold up better.

I had a guy carrying a dead spark plug with him when the bike didn’t start right away he put his plug in and he says motor has no spark ⚡️ so I grabbed a new one and showed him it did and he stuttered a bit so I then told him it’s not for sale anymore he was mad 😡

Another point is have a look at the air filter if it is dirty don't even bother and look at the radiator

I had my 250f rebuilt for 1150, crank, rod, piston, bearings, new valves, entire motor was brand new. 2k on a rebuild is steep

Seems like they are a money pit either way, changing oil and air filter after every ride? If you can only get 150hrs on a dirt bike and it’s gonna blow then they aren’t even worth buying to begin with. 150hrs isn’t that much when you can take a trip and ride 8-9 hours a day

Boss Gaming you can do engine rebuilds before it blows. I have 2013 ktm exc 125 with 560hours, 200h ago I got New crank and all bearings, clutch plates and piston change every 80h. Oil change and Air filter 10h. Never blown up or broke down.

Don't get me wrong I am all for maintaining my stuff but it seems a little excessive to change the air filter so often. Although I have never owned a dirt bike only quads I didn't expect to have to maintain dirt bikes so often.

I was one of the few that actually got one of those too good to be true deals. Old man worked at the Yamaha shop and only rode trails it’s a 2010 and only opened the engine once and that’s bc I broke the header and it warped a valve but I change oil and filter ever 4 hours

Your the first dude ive heard say not to buy a used bike cuz they'll explode in a month............OKay then why were you selling your kx in that one video that you got scammed in? Im not about to spend $9,000 on a vehicle i can get for $3,000. If a bike needs a top and bottom rebuild thats about 4k right? If the bike is listed for $4k can't I just talk the seller down to $2k and then rebuild it? Like im so confused, i wanna get into this but so many ppl are saying so many different things. The bikes last forever.. The bikes blow up in a month... High maintenenance... Oh the maintenance isnt too bad.... Like, which one is it man?

I got a Kawasaki kd 80 and it was crashed and i need to go through the moter I had to pull it with a lawnmower to start it and it was making a bad banging noise. It's a piece of trash
