When St. John Bosco was newly ordained, before he founded the Oratory school, he would often travel to parishes outside of Turin to preach a mission. Scores of people would gather to listen to him and they actually remembered the point of his sermon.
They longed to hear more from him and asked if he could lengthen his stay in their parish. Once he preached a mission for ten days straight and the confession lines were full after every sermon, so they apparently applied what they had learned and were trying to change their lives.
