Moderated by Noah Rothbaum with guest speakers Anthony Caporale, Susan Fedroff, Allen Katz, and Ryan Malkin.
From New York to Minneapolis to Los Angeles, droves of thirsty drinkers are ordering well-made Old Fashioneds, Martinis and Manhattans. So it should be a great time to open your own watering hole, right? Well, opening and running a profitable bar is, in fact, much tougher than it looks and plenty of joints go out of business every year. So how do you do it right? This panel will bring together a range of industry veterans who will share their advice for running a successful establishment, including tips on navigating the complexities of liquor licenses, writing a realistic business plan, dealing with difficult investors and cultivating loyal patrons. Whether you dream about opening a bar or already own one, this is one panel you don’t want to miss.

I got hired as a Bartender at a dead hotel disco . When we got a new manager the first thing he did was change a rule so that the other employees of the hotel could come into the bar when they were off the clock and out of their employee uniforms even if they were only going to drink a coke . Overnight our business exploded . He knew how important it was to have people in the bar to attract other people . Nobody will go into or stay in a bar with nobody else in it . Especially a disco style bar . He was a very smart manager and he made the hotel a lot of money . The crazy part was when he got hired to be the manager he wasn't even old enough to drink !

1:15:22 How do you calculate break-even? To calculate the break-even point in units use the formula: Break-Even point (units) = Fixed Costs ÷ (Sales price per unit - Variable costs per unit)

The fella who asked the first question should’ve been asked to leave. They covered the question of “attaining capitol” at the beginning.

imagine bringing a full bottle of really expensive whiskey to a convention that you talk at just to have it sit there and never take a shot

Imagine thinking that it’s appropriate to take “shots” of any whiskey, or that the whiskey shown is particularly expensive

@@damon6717 personally i've been on the path of putting myself into a position where there is money around and showing off what i can do. AKA doing high level bartending at a high level place in the hopes of attracting the people with the $. seems like theres a lot of different ways though...

I want to run a bar, but I'm concerned about safety issues. Like what happens when you go to close up late at night, and there's people waiting outside to jump you and stuff like that? Also, what about cash transport...do I need to have a Brinks cash pickup service or something like that?
