This net was built before we knew anything About parachord. Even tho there trashy looking after old age there actually still pretty strong. I like to leave the old rope just to show how old the net is.

I'm from Michigan. Climbing in Grand Ledge is great for outdoors in the lower peninsula.

Honestly it hasn't been that long since I started doing it that way so I haven't seen much growth but I assume even if it did wear a spot you could still slide it around to a different spot. Also there are alot of different tree protection methods like running the resting lines through rubber hose to create separation.

I work in the same industry. We use crane slings around the trees, backed up by cable because slings are not certified for life support. The slings don't really choke the trees, depending on species it will take a couple of years to start a bulge. The key is having enough slack in the steel cables, and the sling being long enough. I will say that that is the best case scenario for the tree, in reality the cables are often rigged tightly, using the shortest sling possible. It's definitely something that requires regular maintenance if done properly. We also use wooden blocks to keep our backups away from the tree, same for platforms.

Think of it like bedsores on a coma patient. The tree can't move itself, and given enough time very little pressure cuts off circulation (or wears, or messes with transpiration). I defer to these guys who do these kinds of massive semi-permanent installations, but I'd say keep it wide without fail, and keep it moving regularly if possible.

Think like a spider. Connect your line to at least 3 anchor points and then backfill the shape with hitches and wraps until the whole thing is a big mesh

Looks like a Eucalyptus globulus (Tasmanian Blue Gum). They can grow to 100m if left alone to do their thing. But maybe it's in their best interest to kill it because it's a weed species in California.

@@charlieswebs4734 Truth hurts. You guys clearly understand rope and climbing, etc., But not trees. None of these ropes have any business touching a tree under even slight tension, paracord worst of all!. Sure, those wide loops with half contact won't fully girdle and kill a branch/trunk, but they absolutely will strangle the far side and weaken it. You have to appreciate how slow the growth is happening. It's like water cutting rock, it doesn't take much over time! Wide webbing is where it's at. Hell, that garden hose was the most responsible thing up there as far as the tree is concerned! 😅 Costs too much? Tough shit, don't needlessly kill trees for your entertainment.
