A new role means time to get organized! Today, we're making sure we don't miss anything in preparation for this summer - joined by crazy lady Fee de Ruiter, join us to see how opera singers prepare their music (scores) for a new role! (Disclaimer: there's no singing studying yet!)
Fee is prepping: Cherubino from Le Nozze di Figaro in preparing to sing at Saluzzo Opera Academy in Italy..
Anna is prepping: Dorabella from Così fan tutte in preparing to sing at the Atlantic Music Festival as a Resident Fellow.

Ohhh! Maybe I got it now: both characters, Fiordiligi giving a silly lesson on how to cover a music score, while you-our mezzo- well… holds the thread for one of the most debating operas about…love (?!) My apologies if I impulsively jumped forwarding comments 😊 In any case, your input is very thought provoking, which by all means cannot be better!

I'm in my forties now and sometimes I wished I'd studied opera to become a professional baritone, instead of doing this as a mere hobby back in the 90s. But I see how committed you girls are and I don't think I have this level of commitment and discipline. I love Mozart's three collaborations with Da Ponte. Don Giovanni is my favourite, because first love and all (I got the record of the whole opera on my eleventh birthday, on my request), but I've developed an obsession with Cosi.

Currently using pink “mildliner” for Contessa because it’s not as much of a commitment as a regular pink highlighter 🤪

Haha the thing about highlighting scores is that if you have to study another role another time you'd have to buy another score lol

hahha that's exactly right! A deleted scene is me explaining how I highlighted part of Susanna, and ended up singing Cherubino!

Can one "plastic" the Bärenreiter hardcover? Secondly, can one possibly do so for a Ricordi hardcover (cloth). They are just so special and I want them to last forever. Ps. the number of tabs for your role makes me anxious... Hope the summer program went well!

I don't see why not! My Figaro is hardcover but i think it would've benefited from a good layer of plastic. I also thought it was only for soft covers but Fee said both can be done!

Where do you buy the plastics!? Or what are they called? Also this video was way more funny than it should have been, well done... haha!

Hahah thanks? We get the plastic from a store here called the Hema...i didn't read the label or i would've realized it's "self-adhesive covering foil". 🤷

I'd also never heard of it in Texas - we just wrapped our textbooks in newspaper...maybe it's a Dutch thing!

Ohh, just by the start, Anna, I have to say that the person chosen to underpin this video is… unbearable for her methodical way of permanently wanting to have the last word. It’s not a matter of nationalities nor multiculturalism but of an annoying ‘perfectionism ‘ Let’s try to make the world a more free flowing space! By the way, I adore your videos 😊
